Project Veritas blows open Ballot Measure 2 link to Lisa: ‘We had Sen. Murkowski in mind the whole time’

Project Veritas, an investigative journalism non-profit organization, released videos Wednesday of campaign staffers for Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who describe on tape how Murkowski was secretly supportive of the Ballot Measure 2.

The campaign staffers say that they and Murkowski consultants worked on Ballot Measure 2 and they had Murkowski in mind the whole time.

“She stayed quiet and honestly it was probably best she stayed quiet on that,” said Josiah Nash, Murkowski Interior campaign coordinator. “Between you and me, Ballot Measure 2 was actually created, I think, for two reasons. Number one, it was created because there were people in this state who wanted to see a better system, but they also wanted Lisa to get reelected. We’re being strategic with our messaging. Walking a fine line, I guess is what I’m saying, to try to get her elected.”

Emma Ashlock, another campaign coordinator, was recorded saying, “While we were working on Ballot Measure 2 and voting for Ballot Measure 2, we had Sen. Murkowski in mind the whole time.”

Ballot Measure 2 was designed by Murkowski surrogates such as her former campaign counsel Scott Kendall. It was sold to voters in 2020 as way to get rid of “dark money” from campaigns, but in actuality, it changed the election system so Murkowski could win reelection, since she has been censured by the Republican Party, asked to leave the party, and has a very low approval rating with voters in general. She would not be able to win another Republican primary, but Ballot Measure 2 took away the Republican primary from the Republican Party.

The campaign is between 19 people on the primary ballot, including Republican Kelly Tshibaka, Democrat Pat Chesbro and Democrat Edgar Blatchford. Tshibaka has the endorsement of the Alaska Republican Party.

The entire five-minute recording of Murkowski staffers is at this link:

Project Veritas, in Anchorage, says it has smoking gun on Murkowski and ranked choice voting ballot mess

Project Veritas, an investigative journalism nonprofit, landed in Anchorage this week and is doing a story about Sen. Lisa Murkowski and her ties to the creation of the ranked choice voting election system created by Ballot Measure 2.

The reporter for Project Veritas tried to show Murkowski a computer screen with what he said was an email that linked her to Ballot Measure 2. It’s unclear what that email said. The incident happened at the Americans for Prosperity event, where the group was paying for people to fill up their tanks.

The piece will run today online, the group says in the flyer above, not citing the time.

Murkowski’s former campaign legal counsel, Scott Kendall, was the driving force behind Ballot Measure 2, and it’s well known in political circles that the ranked choice system was created when Murkowski’s camp realized she could never win the Republican primary again. The ballot measure ushered in a “jungle primary,” robbing Republicans from being able to nominate their own candidate. The only reason Alaska has ranked choice voting this year is because of Murkowski’s reelection campaign.

James O’Keefe established Project Veritas in 2011 as a non-profit journalism enterprise to continue his undercover reporting work. Today, Project Veritas investigates and exposes corruption, dishonesty, self-dealing, waste, fraud, and other misconduct in both public and private institutions to achieve a more ethical and transparent society.

Project Veritas is controversial because they get at uncomfortable truths and often record people telling the truth, and they often record people secretly.

Cheap thrill: Over 2,300 gallons of gas sold for just $2.38 a gallon at popular Americans for Prosperity fill-er-up event

Americans for Prosperity hosted a two-hour fill-the-tank event at Mike’s Tesoro on Jewell Lake Road on Tuesday, where hundreds of cars lined up to get gas for the price it was when Donald Trump left office — $2.38 a gallon.

The purpose of the exercise was to remind the public that policies coming from Washington, D.C. have real impacts on Americans’ lives. Those who came for the gas were families, working people, military service members, and retired Alaskans. Cars included old pickup trucks and working vehicles to family sedans and compacts. Few, if any, late model vehicles were in the mix. This was an event for working-class people who are being hit the hardest by inflation under the current regime in Washington, D.C.

This summer, the True Cost Tour is stopping in more than 60 cities to connect people to the fact that this is Washington’s price hike: Consumers are paying more but getting less.

“Together, we can convince Washington to end wasteful spending, unleash energy abundance, and ignite innovation,” the group says on its website.

Americans for Prosperity State Director Bernadette Wilson and a crowd of about 50 drivers and volunteers counted down as the price on the sign in front of the station went from $4.99 a gallon to $2.38 a gallon, and then cars began to file in and top off their tanks. Americans for Prosperity paid Mike’s Tesoro the difference between the two prices.

“People were incredibly appreciative. One of the resounding responses we got from people is just how much the pain at the pump and just how much Washington’s burdensome regulations impact their day to day lives. We talked to people on fixed incomes, who have no way to keep upwtih this high rate of inflation.

“We had one woman with young children who said she gone online and searched for what the cost of a bus fare is, because she can’t afford gas. An elderly woman said she doesn’t go to the grocery store as often because she is rationing fuel. Multiple military members told us their salary is set based on years of service and rank, and they just can’t go in and ask for a raise. These are our men and women defending us who cannot keep up with inflation,” Wilson said.

A couple of dozen volunteers were on hand to do crowd and traffic management. At one point, Sen. Lisa Murkowski showed up for a photo opportunity. Also dropping by was State Sen. Mia Costello, who had a campaign sign posted on the edge of the property. But the event was strictly non-campaign focused, said Wilson.

“People are realizing this was not a political event. We did not screen anyone for their political leanings. This was an opportunity for us to come together, to unite for the community, and do something good,” Wilson said.

Federalist: Murkowski and 19 other Republicans who voted for Merrick Garland owe America an apology

By ELLE REYNOLDS | THE FEDERALIST

After Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice oversaw an FBI raid on the private home of former President Donald Trump, the 20 Republicans who joined Democrats to confirm Garland’s nomination as attorney general must emphatically condemn the nominee they once supported or voters should replace them in their primaries.

When Garland was confirmed in March 2021, only 30 of 50 Republican senators voted against it. The other 20 — Senators Blunt, Burr, Capito, Cassidy, Collins, Cornyn, Ernst, Graham, Grassley, Inhofe, Johnson, Lankford, McConnell, Moran, Murkowski, Portman, Romney, Rounds, Thune, and Tillis — all joined Democrats to approve Garland’s nomination.

Some of those 30, like Grassley and Johnson, have since strongly criticized Garland’s tenure as attorney general and had already condemned the raid by Tuesday morning, to their credit. But others have been conspicuously silent, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who praised Garland’s “long reputation as a straight-shooter and legal expert” at the time of his confirmation.

The media’s kill shot on Anchorage’s health director

The Anchorage Daily News and Alaska Public Media went after the Anchorage Health Department director with their long knives this week. After Joe Gerace was released from the hospital following a serious stroke, the reporters moved in on him with information they dug up that showed he had embellished his resume.

In their own words, they said they “confronted” him. Gerace probably wishes he had not taken the meeting.

Then, Gerace had another stroke incident and quickly resigned. The stress of the job was too much and he needs to focus on his own health after serving in the Covid wars for the past two years, both as a city health director and as a volunteer in the Alaska State Defense Force.

It’s not quite fair to say reporters gave him a stroke, but they didn’t flinch at driving the knife in when he was medically fragile.

The blood lust was satisfied for the leftist media, for the moment at least. They have taken out the leader of the city’s response to the Covid pandemic and the much-fought-over homelessness problem, all of which the reporters have been quite critical. Reporters from the mainstream media have made it even more difficult for the Municipality to do its work to address the needs of the poor, the lame, and the sick.

The goal? To ensure the failure of the Bronson Administration. It’s the media’s war on Bronson, and they can now add another notch in their belts for winning this scalp. No one will want to work for the Bronson Administration, what with the attacks on them by the media for everything from their resume to their divorces and any past financial struggles.

In this case, the reporting had all the flair of a Watergate expose. The writers went far and above the call of duty, accusing Gerace of things that were not true, while revealing other things that are, evidently true, such as: Gerace doesn’t have a master’s degree, as his resume states he has.

Mayor Dave Bronson issued a statement today: “Upon hearing the shocking news yesterday about Joe Gerace, I immediately tasked the Municipal Manager’s Office and Human Resources Department to investigate the hiring of former Anchorage Health Director Joe Gerace. I expect an in-depth and thorough investigation into this matter, and HR hiring practices moving forward.”

A Must Read Alaska review of Gerace’s resume, given to the municipality at the outset of the Bronson administration, finds some creative license was taken, but 90% of it appears to be accurate enough. Gerace has a documented history of service in the Alaska State Defense Force, which is overseen by Alaska National Guard Adjutant General Torrence Saxe, and which works hand in hand with the Alaska National Guard. He just isn’t in the Guard, but he doesn’t claim to be in the Guard in this resume. Instead, it’s an inference.

Update: MRAK obtained a letter from the Alaska National Guard that says it called him to active duty for Covid.

Here is what Gerace’s resume says:

“Beginning in Jan of 2020, I started to assist the Alaska Guard/OHS & EM with response planning for a pandemic. I served as a subject matter expert on several topics in the State EOC. In March of 2020 I was called to State Active Duty (StAD) and served in a mix of pandemic response roles. I served on Joint Taskforce Medical providing direct medical and logistical support of the AKNG pandemic mission. I had additional responsibilities of the Covid screening program at the AKNG Headquarters. In partnership with L TC Sanders, we checked-in, inspected and tested all reporting AKNG soldiers who had been activated for the Covid 19 response in Alaska. As the pandemic transformed, I was assigned to support DHSS. My DHSS role at first was to lead a Covid-19 contact tracing team, later the role expanded to include helping citizens get scheduled for vaccinations and MAB treatments. I departed StAD in March of 2021, returning to regular drill status, to assume my current role at Visit Healthcare. I continue to serve in the 49th Brigade, ASDF. During my activation I oversaw the creation of a new EMS agency for statewide response to medical situations.”

All of that appears to be accurate and corroborated by the National Guard in its own reporting. in 2020:

“More than 30 Alaska National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, Alaska State Defense Force Soldiers, and other DMVA personnel volunteered to give blood at the National Guard Armory here yesterday in coordination with the Blood Bank of Alaska.

“The blood drive was led by Lt. Col. Joseph Gerace, the 49th Brigade, Medical Detachment Commander of the ASDF, under the direction of the adjutant general of Alaska Maj. Gen Torrence Saxe.

“Gerace has been on state active duty orders since March and has worked as part of the medical section for Joint Task Force-Alaska in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Although this state is one of the least affected by the virus overall, I think we’ve been highly prepared and dialed in to respond to whatever comes our way,” Gerace said. “Drives like this are part of that.”

“Donors were met on the open drill hall floor of the armory by workers from the Blood Bank, before signing various medical questionnaires and taking their seats to donate.

“I’m impressed by everyone’s willingness to give back to their community during such a critical time of need,” said Gerace. “I expected that the Tuesday after Memorial Day would be a tough day to get volunteers. But all these folks stepped up, and we met our goal.”

“Donating blood products is essential to community health and the need for blood, plasma, and platelets is constant as part of our nation’s critical infrastructure, according to the American Red Cross. Blood drives like this can maintain and secure adequate supplies for blood transfusions for patients throughout Alaska.”

In its press release last year about Gerace being hired, the mayor’s office said, “Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson today named Joe Gerace as the Director of the Municipality of Anchorage Health Department. Mr. Gerace has more than 38 years’ experience in emergency service delivery and more than 20 years’ experience working in disaster response. He has worked as a firefighter, paramedic, red cross disaster responder, and as a medical detachment commander for the Alaska National Guard and the State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management during the pandemic.” That press release was mistaken, unless being a medical detachment commander “for the Alaska National Guard” means in his role “in the Alaska State Defense Force,” in partnership with the Guard.

Must Read Alaska wasn’t able to reach Gerace to find out more about his educational background and active duty military service, but found he had served in the Washington State National Guard.

Here’s what the Alaska National Guard also wrote about Gerace:

“Lt. Col. Joseph Gerace, the 49th Brigade Medical Detachment Commander of the Alaska State Defense Force has a lifetime of experience in medical care and military service. He studied medicine at the university of Virginia and he’s the current president of the American Red Cross of Alaska. As a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, he served as both an infantryman and a combat medic specialist. He has volunteered in both state and international disaster relief efforts, and works alongside his fellow ASDF Soldiers to keep Alaska safe, particularly in times of natural disasters or health emergencies.”

Was it necessary for the media to ask about Gerace’s divorce or child support payments? No, it was a case of excessive piling on by the leftwing media, but it’s what we have come to expect.

The point of this column is not to pile on a sick public employee who has left service to recover his heath, but to also demonstrate that the media slants the news not only by the words it chooses, the facts it brings to light, the insinuations it makes, but the very stories it decides to pursue. The partisan politics of personal destruction in Alaska journalism is still very much alive, and engorged with the blood of its latest victim.

Fact check: Palin stumbles again on how ranked choice voting works, says third-place person can win

On the Mike Porcaro Show on Monday, (650 KENI) congressional candidate Sarah Palin once again repeated her belief that the third vote getter can win the election in the ranked choice voting system.

That makes three times in one week that Palin has asserted her theory in the public square — the first two times were in Texas. It’s unclear why Palin keeps repeating this theory.

As wacky as Ballot Measure 2’s new election design is, it is still mathematically impossible for the third-place candidate to win next week’s special congressional general election for the temporary seat in Congress.

Every round of ballot counting involves a smaller voting universe. With three candidates, there will be only two counting cycles: The first one eliminates the third-place finisher, and then the election is between just two people.

Everyone who votes for the last-place finisher will remain part of the second (and final) voting universe only if they have made a second choice on their ballot. Ranking other candidates will never harm your first-choice candidate.

For example, if someone votes for Palin, but she comes in third, and if the voter has not selected either Mary Peltola-D, or Nick Begich-R as their second choice, the ballot is exhausted and tossed. In this case, that will probably lead to a Peltola win, since the Democrat will have all the liberal votes in Alaska, which can overcome the conservative votes that remain, in this sample scenario.

But if someone votes for Palin as their first choice and then marks Nick Begich as their second choice, their ballot is still in the running, even after Palin is eliminated. Now the race is only between Begich and Peltola, and it’s as if Palin never existed. Begich gets that one more vote, but the overall number of ballots is, by this time, shrinking because not everyone will rank. With a smaller voting universe, it takes fewer overall votes to win.

If someone votes for Begich first, and Palin second, and if Begich is the third-place candidate, he is eliminated, and the contest is between Palin and Peltola. In this scenario, Palin just earned one more vote that came from the eliminated Begich ballot.

Using yet another example, if Peltola voters do not rank beyond their first choice, and if Peltola comes in third, those ballots are exhausted and the race is just between Begich and Palin. But if Peltola voters rank Palin second, then in the race between Begich and Palin, Palin will get those votes.

It’s a system that makes voting harder than it should be, but the bottom line is that the last-place finisher cannot win because they are always the first to be eliminated.

Here’s what the ranked choice ballot looks like on the back of the Aug. 16 primary ballot:

Sen Sullivan: FBI raid on Trump home looks like ‘justice system being weaponized against political opponents’

Sen. Dan Sullivan issued a statement about the FBI’s raid on the home of former President Donald Trump:

“Like so many Americans, I am very disturbed by the unprecedented raid executed by the FBI against a former president. The Department of Justice at the highest levels—the attorney general and the director of the FBI—needs to explain the reasons for another FBI raid that has the appearance of the justice system being weaponized against political opponents,” Sullivan said.

“I have the utmost respect for our state and federal law enforcement officers, who have difficult jobs and who often do not get the respect I believe they deserve. But from Ted Stevens to the Huepers in Homer, to the EPA raids in Chicken, Alaska, and recently in the Mat-Su—I and so many other Alaskans are left with serious doubts about how federal officials are conducting law enforcement raids,” Sullivan said, referring to the 2007 raid on the Girdwood home of Sen. Ted Stevens, the 2013 EPA armed raid on miners in Chicken, and the busting down the door of Paul and Marilyn Hueper’s home in Homer in the search for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s laptop.

“The worst thing in the world for our country is for Americans to start to believe the Justice Department and the FBI provide two tiers of justice. The department’s comparatively light treatment of Hillary Clinton’s gross mishandling of classified information reinforces that perception,” Sullivan said. “It is vital for our democracy that Americans have faith in our system of justice. I’m calling on the attorney general and the FBI director to give the American people the answers and transparency that they deserve.”

Sen. Lisa Murkowski has not yet issued a statement about the shocking search of the Trump home for classified documents the Justice Department believes Trump has in his possession. She and Trump are considered political adversaries after she voted to convict him in his second impeachment trial, and he has campaigned against her, most recently at a rally in Anchorage. Trump supports Kelly Tshibaka for Senate this year.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy also expressed concern about the raid on Trump: “This raid on the 45th President’s home in Mar-a-Lago is very concerning, and should be concerning to all of us. This continues the politicization of the FBI against Donald Trump that started before he was even elected and continues to this day. Today’s action will only widen the divide in our country and further weaken trust in our Justice system. Presidents are elected by the citizens of this country, not by unelected bureaucrats using the FBI against their political opponents. This is smacks of Third World politics, and damages our standing in the world as a country that was founded on the rule of law.”

Dunleavy, other leaders react to FBI raid on Trump’s house

Reactions from around the country on the FBI raid of Mar A Lago, updated at Must Read Alaska as they arrive:

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy: This raid on the 45th President’s home in Mar-a-Lago is very concerning, and should be concerning to all of us. This is smacks of Third World politics, and damages our standing in the world as a country that was founded on the rule of law.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy: Attorney General Garland: Preserve your documents and clear your calendar. When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis: The raid of MAL is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves. Now the Regime is getting another 87k IRS agents to wield against its adversaries? Banana Republic.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: It is disgraceful and unprecedented. The question is what comes next. We either have Republic or we don’t. If we do, the people who’ve politicized the FBI in recent years will face investigation and prosecution. Using government power to persecute political opponents is something we have seen many times from 3rd world Marxist dictatorships. But never before in America. After today’s raid on Mar A Lago what do you think the left plans to use those 87,000 new IRS agents for?

Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake: This is one of the darkest days in American history the day our Government, originally created by the people, turned against us. This illegitimate, corrupt Regime hates America and has weaponized the entirety of theFederal Government to take down President Donald Trump. Our Government is rotten to the core. These tyrants will stop at nothing to silence the Patriots who are working hard to save America. This is an incredibly horrendous abuse of power. If we accept it, America is dead. We will not accept it. The 10th Amendment can and will save our Republic and the road to stripping the Feds of power travels right through Arizona. We must fire the Federal Government. As Governor, I will fight these Tyrants with every fiber of my being. America — dark days lie ahead for us. May God protect us and save our Country.

Christina Pushaw, press secretary for Gov. DeSantis: Anyone who knows about my background before I came to Florida, will understand why the politicization of the FBI/DOJ, or even appearance of it, scares me more than anything else. We Americans like to tell ourselves “it couldn’t happen here” … until it happens.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely,” she said.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniels: Countless times we have examples of Democrats flouting the law and abusing power with no recourse. Democrats continually weaponize the bureaucracy against Republicans. This raid is outrageous. This abuse of power must stop and the only way to do that is to elect Republicans in November.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson: The search at Mar-a Lago of a former President is unprecedented & alarming.  We must see the probable cause affidavit before making a judgment. Normally that would be under seal but since Trump announced  the raid then the probable cause should be made public.

Lou Dobbs: The FBI and the DOJ have ruthlessly violated the Constitution and law in America. Joe Biden and Merrick Garland are no more than Marxist thugs, not public servants. They’re an outrage against decency, judgment, a former President, and the American people.

Glenn Beck: This is the act of a dictator of a Banana Republic. Republicans NEVER did this to Clinton, although perhaps we should have. With Joe & Hunter Biden paying zero consequence for his actions. This is shameful and MUST STOP. We don’t do this in America. Way over the line.

Mark Levin: The Biden Administration raid on former President Trump’s Florida home is a bald attack on our republic.  The Democrat Party is dragging us into the Third World.

Arizona Rep. Paul Goser: The FBI raid on Trump’s home tells us one thing. Failure is not an option. We must destroy the FBI. We must save America. I stand with Donald J. Trump.

Charlie Kirk: Pay very close attention to how every Republican reacts to this raid on Trump. Watch carefully.

Former RNC Chair Michael Steele: Trump failed to return classified docs requested by the National Archives. A federal judge issued a search warrant for probable cause of a crime. This is not some rando move by the FBI so you shitforbrains Republicans calling for “defunding the FBI”for once try to be less stupid.

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: DEFUND THE FBI!

Newt Gingrich: These people are bad people doing bad things and it’s time that we finally said that and actually do something about it.

Students for Trump founder Ryan Fournier: No matter how hard the Democrats, RINOs, or other Deep State actors try to stop Trump or the MAGA movement, they will not succeed. The people STAND with President Trump. This unlawful raid will only make him & his movement STRONGER.

Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance: Little to add on the details of the raid on Trump’s home: it is disgraceful and unprecedented. The question is what comes next. We either have Republic or we don’t. If we do, the people who’ve politicized the FBI in recent years will face investigation and prosecution.

Benny Johnson: Joe Biden is in charge of the DOJ. Joe Biden directed the DOJ to attack his political opponent. Joe Biden openly abused his power. Joe Biden is scared to death of Donald Trump. Joe Biden will lose. Joe Biden will be impeached for this.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem: The FBI raid on President Trump’s home is an unprecedented political weaponization of the Justice Department. They’ve been after President Trump as a candidate, as President, and now as a former President. Using the criminal justice system in this manner is un-American.

President Donald Trump, during a tele-rally for Sarah Palin: Another day in paradise. This is a strange day. You probably all read about it,

Steven Crowder: Tomorrow is war. Sleep well.

Anchorage health director Gerace resigns due to stroke

Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson today accepted the resignation of Anchorage Health Director Joe Gerace, who is leaving because of severe health issues.

“Last week, I suffered a stroke while working and spent three days in the hospital as a result” said Gerace. “Today, after suffering another event, and being transported by ambulance to the hospital, I recognize the need to focus on my health first and foremost. I thoroughly enjoyed leading the Anchorage Health Department and it’s dedicated staff to help the residents of Anchorage, but my health and well being is my upmost priority right now. I want to thank the exceptional emergency responders at the Anchorage Fire Department and the hospital health professionals that have tended to me during both of these events.”

“Joe’s service to Anchorage and the Anchorage Health Department is greatly appreciated,” said Mayor Dave Bronson. “I will miss his dedication, hard work, and commitment to help our city’s underserved. Deb and I are praying for his complete recovery.”

Anchorage Health Department Deputy Director Kim Rash will serve as the Acting Director until a Director is announced.
