The National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund provides guides for voters who value second amendment rights as an absolute non-negotiable. Among Alaska’s Candidates for Governor, NRA grants A+ grades to Shelley Hughes, Click Bishop, and Lesil McGuire. U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan and U.S. Representative Nick Begich also receive A+ grades. Sullivan and Begich are also officially NRA endorsed. NRA has not endorsed a gubernatorial candidate.

An A+ grade means: “A legislator with not only an excellent voting record on all critical NRA issues, but who has also made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment.”

Gubernatorial candidates Adam Crum, Bernadette Wilson, and Dave Bronson receive grade A, which means these candidates are “solidly pro-gun…[and] ha[ve] supported NRA positions on key votes in elective office or a candidate with a demonstrated record of support on Second Amendment issues.” State Rep. Jamie Allard also receives an A grade plus official NRA endorsement. Mary Peltola, Senator Dan Sullivan’s main challenger, also receives an A grade.

Edna DeVries, Matt Heilala, James Parkin, Treg Taylor, Michael Gilbert, and Destry Payne receive AQ. A grade of AQ means: “A pro-gun candidate whose rating is based solely on the candidate’s responses to the NRA-PVF Candidate Questionnaire and who does not have a voting record on Second Amendment issues.”

Democrat candidate Jonathon Kreiss-Tomkins receives a C, which is given to candidates “with a mixed record or positions on gun related issues, who may oppose some pro-gun positions or support some restrictive legislation.”

Leading Democrat candidate Tom Begich receives a solid F. An F means this candidate is a “true enemy of gun owners’ rights. A consistent anti-gun candidate who always opposes gun owners’ rights and/or actively leads anti-gun legislative efforts, or sponsors anti-gun legislation.”
