Mat-Su Residents Impacted by Disastrous Windstorm Can Apply for Assistance

On December 22, the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM) announced that Mat-Su residents can apply for the State’s Individual Assistance program to help with damages from the December Mat-Su Windstorm.

The Mat-Su Valley experienced powerful winds that caused extensive damage to power lines. Due to power outages, pipes froze in many homes. Debris carried by the high winds caused damage to vehicles, homes, and public buildings. Severe damages prompted Governor Dunleavy to declare the situation a disaster.

Mat-Su residents who sustained substantial damages to their homes, vehicles, and essential property due to the disastrous windstorm may apply for financial assistance here. Applications will be accepted until Feb 20.

  1. I hope they have patience waiting for the government because you need it when you request government money
This why you got to live simple, below your means, and keep money on the side (and a lot of it) just for sudden disasters or sicknesses as these
It’s why I keep on Reminding like a broken record not only Alaskans but Americans across the country are too government dependent. Most don’t know how to work outside the government let alone are prepared to pay for their own medical and disaster relief efforts after facing a disaster.

If the state Alaska wasn’t so big. Its budget was living under its means, the savings accounts quadrupled over the years could be used instead of Alaska Crawling on its knees to Washington or FEMA relief. That’s what savings accounts are supposed to be for sudden emergencies not for paying to keeping the government open
