The annual Ted Stevens Day Picnic at the Alaska Zoo hosted by the Last Frontier Republican Club offers Alaskans an opportunity for a day of family-friendly fun, zoo exploration, and reflection on the legacy of the late Senator Ted Stevens.

Ted Stevens, who served on the U.S. Senate for 40 years, was a powerhouse for Alaska, who played a pivotal role in landmark legislation, including: the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (1971), the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act, the Magnuson–Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (key for Alaska’s fishing industry), the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, and the Amateur Sports Act of 1978.

He served as President pro tempore of the Senate (2003–2007) and was known as one of the most influential members of Congress, especially for the Northwestern U.S. and Alaska’s development.

The Ted Stevens Day Picnic will feature classic summer food, children’s games, prizes, special giveaways, and complementary zoo admission.
