WHEN HALLOWEEN COMES BACK TO HAUNT

It’s OK for Tyler Perry to play the role of Madea, the southern, pistol-packing, pragmatic matriarch.

But in this day and age, if a white guy plays Madea, he’s going to have some explaining to do.

Madea character / Wikipedia

So discovered candidate for House District 6 Mike Cronk, who donned a dress, a wig, and some dark makeup to go to a Halloween party in Tok in 2012.

The theme of the costume party was, “come dressed as a fictional character you admire.” Cronk loves and admires the Madea character, and said the costume was a hit and no one knew who he was behind the wig and glasses.

But mainstream media was sent photos today by someone in the Democratic Party, and so there’s going to be a story.

But Cronk says that going to costume parties and admiring the character of black women is something he feels no need to explain. He said his daughters are Alaska Native and they don’t see a problem with costume play either, especially if you admire the person.

But the pictures are going to be splashed across the media soon, as KTUU has contacted him. Cronk, who was in national news as a hero after the Las Vegas mass shooting, knows the story will probably go national due to the national sensitivities about Black Lives Matter.

Whether the coming publicity hurts or helps him in District 6 is the question. The district is one of the most conservative and ruggedly independent districts in Alaska, and Cronk has friends far and wide through his reputation as a basketball coach. He was raised in the small town of Northway and taught school there for many years before moving to Tok.

  1. Only thin-skinned, immature snowflakes (whatever their age) are going to be offended by a costume. They need to get over themselves and worry about fixing REAL problems like why are the folks in the ghettos killing each other and joining gangs and such.

  2. Straight out of the Democrat playbook, to scare the Republicans of……..
Racism. Who is the Democrat candidate in that District? It’s time to dig up all the dirt that can be found on him or her.

  3. I wasn’t at this party. But I know Mike well enough to know he is a good man. He’s done a lot for Alaska sports programs in our schools around the state. He survived the 2017 Vegas shooting. He’s truly kind and far from judgmental.

  4. No big deal if you are a democrat or the prime minister of Canada. Or Jimmy Fallon. Red Travalena, impersonating Eddie Murphy on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, and Michael Jackson at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. Gov. Northam was accused of appearing in a racist yearbook photo that showed a man donning blackface and another in full Ku Klux Klan regalia. Lt. Gov. Fairfax was accused of sexually assaulting two women. And, not helping matters any, Attorney General Mark Herring admitted he once wore blackface.

    • I’m with you. Tired of everyone being offended by everything. And for God’s sake, it was 8 years ago. Look for real reasons to be offended.

  5. Just when Trump’s Plan A for reelection – booming economy, highest black employment stats etc – is vaporized and his ratings plummet, the Leftists give him a viable Plan B – defund police and a other loony things that most decent people will have a hard time voting for. With enemies like Democrats, Trump doesn’t need friends.

  6. This whole game of pretend the last 6-7 years has gotten crazy. We have to pretend men are women, visa versa or some third option, and then we all have to collectively pretend to be outraged by offenses to women, or a minority, or aforementioned gender less genders, and then we all have to pretend it’s our fault and then we all have to pretend to be contrite and then we all have to pretend any of this matters.

    Enough pretend already!

  7. I heard the term “black face” used in regards to this. I went to a college where you could actually get a degree in “drama”! As a ‘writing’ major I had some interaction with the theater majors. My understanding of “black face” is that it’s an attempt to imitate, with great exaggeration, not a black person, but rather some historical stereotype of a “Negro.”

Somehow it was supposed to be funny, but perhaps not being racist, I never saw the humor in it…and I bet black people don’t either!

Clearly black face is meant to mock black people, which is exactly why it is so offensive.

I see none of this in the picture. Mike is not stereotyping or mocking anyone. He’s portraying a fictional movie character…how well is open to interpretation!

If I was the black actor who played ‘Madea’ I would consider it; ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’! It’s very strange that we’ve both lived in the same area for forty years and don’t actually know each other, but all our local friends overlap in various ways…and I’m real sure that if Mike was a racist I would have heard about it.

No one I know is accusing Mike of such a thing. Doesn’t mean I’m going to automatically vote for you Mike. Let’s hear your campaign promises first, and then I’ll decide!

  8. Mr. Cronk should play the ‘Governor Blackface’ of Virginia card. Democrats were initially outraged by the discovery of the governor wearing Blackface at an event as a young man. Prominent black democrats mandated that he must resign. However, Governor Blackface went into hiding and simply ignored those demands. The media’s memory was apparently short-lived (he’s a democrat, you know). So Governor Blackface, emerged from hiding and eased back into his role as Virginia’s lunatic liberal Governor. Easy peasy.

  9. So, the leftist who are devoid of any substance and long past making constructive arguments in their favor now continue to destroy their opponents with the use character assassination over events either real or imagined. This is how civilization is destroyed, the dawn of a new tribalism with “witch doctors” directing the path to follow.

  10. I am sickened by the groveling that goes on for something like this. Stop pandering for forgiveness, as it makes you seem even worse. I once dressed up as the little green sprout for Halloween. I hope the vegetable clan doesn’t take offense to it…oh wait, that was back in 1982 before smart phones and snowflakes.

    • The things I saw at Halloween parties in the 70’s and 80’s would melt these snowflakes into the next century. I would venture to bet that some of these “SJW”s were some of the worse offenders. I wish I had some of those old polaroids…

      • Just when I was beginning to think you were some stuffed shirt old guard Republican who never had a life, you surprise me! I stand corrected. I won’t apologize cause we know how you feel about that! You go on being you and I’ll go on being me and keep disagreeing with you…but not today.

  11. As a kid during Halloween, it was always a thinking game to come up with the best costume. If you couldn’t come up with something cool, it was go grab Mom’s makeup and dress up like a girl. No problems there, right?
Sorry for you Mike, but we both know how this will play out. Wish we could find the culprit that forwarded that photo to channel 2.
Mike Cronk for District 6 …

  12. One big middle finger to to anyone that gets in my face and demand I be anyone other than the person I am. I will apologize to no one for being me. I won’t apologize for my speech, my supposed “privilege”, the actions of my forefathers, or what I may or may not have worn to a costume party. Go ahead…”make my day”.
