Breaking: Gaetz withdraws name for Attorney General

131

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration for U.S. Attorney General, he wrote in a social media post on X.

Gaetz said he had “excellent meetings” with senators on Wednesday, but it became “clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition.”

“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General,” Gaetz wrote.

“Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1. I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America,” he said.

The firebrand’s nomination was being derailed by unfounded accusations made by the legacy media and women who all of a sudden had history with Gaetz.

    • Actually Greg you have to be a fool to think that. Pictures do lie. It’s very easy for anyone to modify a picture these days. Photo shop has been fully functional for 15 years or more. Try to contain your glee at the misinformation you are being fed? If it’s main stream media reporting it %99 altered story or complete lie. They are evil.

  1. Outstanding!!! I couldn’t believe Trump nominated that guy in the first place. I believe this is a great thing, since he resigned from the house he now has to get backfilled hopefully by a conservative. But I am glad he is gone as he has caused a lot of problems for republicans. Good riddance!

  2. A good result. Mr. Gaetz was a poor choice – little actual legal experience, lousy political mechanics and serious questions about his character. Hopefully the President-elect can find someone good to clean up the Deep State at DOJ and the FBI.

  3. Daddy’s Little Princess was one of the very first to object to Gaetz. I believe she even takes issue with the other nominations. How exactly does this obstructionist // defiant approach help Alaska and Alaskans? Seems like her current posture is more of a detriment // unmitigated risk // liability … driven completely by her unhinged emotions and menstrual anger. At some point, she needs to grow up and get-on-board to repairing the damage done. Or, get out of the way!!!

    • Rob, it’s not menstrual anger–Lisa is old enough that she has gone through (or is still going through) menopause. And how dare a woman object to a misogynist! I’m sure you wanted a grown man who sleeps with 18 year old girls (not women) to lead the Department of Justice.

    • She’s being put in the spotlight. I pray that she is one of the “bureaucrats” that President Trump plans on firing when he gets into office since we have not been able to get rid of her in an honest and legal manner.

  4. Democrats were scared sh*tless of this guy. He would’ve found a way to put Hillary Clinton in jail.
    (where she belongs).

                • I’m not sure why you’re against a globalist type economy, you do realize that it encrease’s the standard of living. The only way we’re ever going to get past wars is to form a union based on what’s good for humans and the planet. People full of hate like you are going to have to be long gone before that can happen. Course it doesn’t necessarily mean that the rest of us can’t see the writing on the wall.

                  • Did I say economy? No, I didn’t.
                    .
I said one world government. And, that government is already shaping up, across Europe, and spreading. It is a government where a country’s sovereignty is made subservient to the “elites.”
                    .
And a “union” based on what is good for humans and the planet. Isn’t that the UN? That is what the UN was supposed to be. But, look at what we got.
                    .
See, you are not actually a republican. You are a delusional globalist leftist. And, the elites will be more than happy to send you to the slums first, as soon as your support is no longer convenient.

      • They all got called. Stop your shenanigans or face a primary candidate funded by Musk. Yiu too can go read it on Gateway Pundit.

  5. The firebrand’s nomination was being derailed by unfounded accusations made by the legacy media and women who all of a sudden had history with Gaetz. He has been under investigation for years for his alleged abuses, the report was scheduled to be released when he resigned quickly. What was in it that he didn’t want known?

  6. Poor wife Ginger has gone silent. She is 12 years younger than Matt. He likes em young. Lol
Shell be fine. Her billionaire brother just sold Oculus for 2 billion plus a billion in bonuses. Gotta be disheartening to learn you will never be first lady.

  7. Unfounded? If the allegations were so unfounded, why doesn’t the House Ethics Committee release the report to the public? Were the charges dropped? Yes. Were they unfounded? Evidently not.

The Republicans used to be the party of Christian values, but no more. They’re just as craven as the Democrats. Zero moral compass.

        • Speaks volumes to… who? And what words does it speak? Words that you make up in your own mind.
You have proof of nothing. Evidence of nothing. The only thing you can say about his resignation from Congress is he resigned from Congress. And, by his own word, it was to allow the State of Florida to fill his seat before the new Congress was sworn in.
As to dropping from consideration for the AG, the only facts you have is he pulled his name from consideration. Nothing else. Anything else you claim is 100% made up in your own mind.

    • Let’s apply the same standard you apply regarding voter fraud to this, OK Bill?
      .
You have no evidence. So shut up.

        • Just pointing out that a person who is adamant I should not make claims about election fraud because I have no evidence, is now here making claims about Matt Gaetz without evidence.
          .
About 34° right now in Moscow, warmer than Anchorage. Enjoying it.

          • I’d say there is evidence, being suppressed by the Republicans. If there is a report that’s damning enough for Gaetz to up and quit congress, then there’s compelling evidence of wrongdoing. But you’re right, I do not have any hard evidence of his alleged sexual misconduct.

It does speak volumes that the Republicans are willing to suppress this information. If the democrats were doing this, you’d be up in arms, demanding the heads of everyone suppressing the information. But it is totally OK when republicans do it…

            • Hate to say it, but I have provided significantly more evidence of vote/election fraud than that.
              .
And, you do have unanswered questions there, but making any conclusions is absolutely premature. I say investigate. Get the facts.
              .
Right now, the only facts you have is Gaetz pulled his name from consideration, and the House report is being withheld. Everything else is speculation. And, yes, there are some pretty damning allegations being bandied about. Then again, there is also a lot of information that Gaetz did not do anything wrong.
              .
And, while I may be tempted to make negative assumptions about the Democrats, I will also examine the information provided, and give the benefit of the doubt where warranted.

            • And, no, it is not OK when the Republicans do it. It is actually worse than wrong. Protecting a criminal makes you part of the crime.
              .
Nothing will clear this up, one way or the other, faster than releasing the report.

  8. Check this out: Matt Gaetz resigned from the 118h Congress. His election to the 119th Congress is still valid since they have not been sworn in.

  9. My sources tell me Lisa likes little girls. She has to go. See how easy that is? Anyone can accuse anyone of anything, no proof needed. Guilty as sin.
What a mess. I sure miss the Rule of Law.

  10. The Brett Kavanaugh BS all over again. The bureaucratic tyranny is determined to hang on to their power, in any manner possible.

  11. Keep in mind this is the will of both the existing minority and subsequent majority faction of the “Republican” Senators that rejects even his consideration.

The mega creeper McConnell (R) maintains control, until his carefully prepared creeper protege Thune (R) takes control in January of the cabal. Murkowski (R) and Sullivan (R) are both very much part of the GOP cabal, which protects the permanent government from emergency domestic enemy threats, including and primarily, the will of the majority of American voters.

The job of the GOP is to obstruct, delay and sabotage anything meaningful from the incoming Trump administration, while deflecting blame on their dominant Democrat partners, as to maintain a continuance of the farce we call a constitutional republic.

There is nothing “conservative” about the GOP leadership in Washington, or most state party committees. Their priority is to keep full control of the endless deficit spending directed to their donor and sponsoring oligarchs, globalist corporations and major donors.

Hard working, patriotic, family oriented Americans, whom they need to vote in force each election cycle to keep their spots on the public money trough, are simply none of their concern.

  12. “Oops,” the old man said as he noticeably slipped a bit of gas: Gaetz was more chili than he could handle!

      • “Shart,” indeed–the word, however, is considered among the more socially refined as malapropos for genial conversations. And you’d never hear a cigar aficionado use the word at Mar-a-Lago! That said, what a brutal but humorous notion–a political shart!

  13. What a disappointment, the doj is as corrupt as hell and needs a overhaul.
Matt will continue in some way to reform the government overreaching.

  14. The speaker did his best to protect him and trump. Payback for hatchet job on Mitch. Karma. An unearned gift is just that. It can be taken away. He became too much of a danger for Trump to pursue.

  15. Matt Gaetz seems to be the perfect disruptor that is needed in the Department of Justice. Hopefully Trump can appoint an Attorney General that will use Matt to identify and cleanse the DOJ of corruption.

  16. House Republicans actually voted today to block the US Senate from receiving their report containing sworn witness testimony and documentary evidence about the nominee for Attorney General of the United States paying a child $10,000 for sex. Yea, family values, sure.

  17. Says it all. Would he quit if he was innocent? You know the answer as well as I do. Sleazy dude. Don’t let him near your daughters.

  18. Turns out the witnesses aren’t what would be called reliable. One is in prison for 11 years, after accusing numerous other Republicans he ran for public office against of having sex with minors…oh and was having sex with the minor he claims Gaetz had sex with.

  19. It’s a mute point because Matt just declared that he won’t be returning to Congress next year. I’m pretty sure that he couldn’t. He would have to rerun for the seat in the special election that we are about to have, and I don’t think he would win that one. floridians, do have a little bit of morals you see. Instead, he’s going to be trump’s little yes, man on his staff, kind of a behind the scenes kind of a little troll, which basically is the same role he was doing now, it’s just not going to cost the taxpayers any money. At least he can’t hurt america.
