President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs for roughly 75 countries that did not issue retaliatory tariffs, and said that the U.S. raised the tariff charged to China to 125%, according to a Wednesday Truth Social post.

This comes after Trump implemented tariffs on several other nations on April 2, sending shockwaves across international markets. Markets immediately responded by surging following the president’s announcement.

“Based on the lack of respect China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the tariff charge to China by the United States of America by 125%, effective immediately,” Trump wrote. “Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, have authorized a 90-day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately,” he continued.

  1. Truly, the Democrats and radical liberals have no idea how to structure a deal. Complete idiots on full display again. Trump’s strategy was to wake-up our friendly trade partners and force a stock market correction. Then, typical Trump, sit back and wait for our friends to come running back to us for forgiveness. LOL. Here they come ….Japan, Korea, Taiwan. Europe and Canada will soon follow. Trump will lower the tariffs rates. Markets will over-rebound. Manufacturing in America will return. The loser …..China. They will be alienated and isolated …..and financially strapped. This was Trump’s master plan. Of course, mainstream media doesn’t understand how business and global economics really work. TDS has them so blinded and confused. Next up:
More coal fired power plants in America and less coal shipments to China. Should be fun to watch the domestic radicals come unglued once again. This is a powerful presidency.

    • If the Democrats don’t get a dose of Trump reality this time, they are sunk. They are the laughing stock. Trump plays them like a fiddle. So fun to watch them protest. Next to Woman’s Roller Derby, it’s the best entertainment in the United States of America. 😂😂

      • It’s the US that has become a laughing stock. I’ve always been proud of the fact that we led the world in democracy, freedom, philanthropy, compassion, ethical government, lack of corruption, freedom of the press and of speech. But now that’s all fading away, and we are held in disgust by most of the world. Where can we travel now and be welcomed? It’s going to be resentment, sharp questions, and pointed fingers every time we show our passports from now on. I am deeply ashamed, and you should be too.

    • Chrissy, …..agree. This should open up the coal exports in Alaska. The Chulitna Coal Project on the west side of the Cook Inlet should gear up for renewal. Usibelli Coal at Healy, Alaska will get a boost. The new coal powered plant at UAF is about to get cheered as a masterful 75-year beauty. China will come begging Alaska for coal exports. Liberal’s wet dreams of more windmills and costly solar panels are about to get ……..
      more wet dreams. Enjoy!

        • Coal is coming back, count on it. Whidbey is old and his voice is in the wilderness. A relic of the old hippie druggies who never grew up. But to show my compassion, I’ll send him a stocking full of beautiful coal next Christmas.

        • You know of some other material with a higher energy per unit mass than coal?
Please tell us all what it is.
(HINT: There is at least one. But, I doubt you will want to push for it.)

    • think you better check that internet connection. just cause Fox News doesn’t run the bottom ticker, the markets are tanking today. bond market doesn’t deal in wishes and fantasies, the “bond vigilantes” can tank a country, check history with Britain in the “Soros” currency crash.

rainbows and unicorns belong in politics. leave the hard math lift to the bond gurus

  2. Now we have CLARITY: USA Alliance vs. BRICS. The Great Financial War Begins. This is now you defeat Communism, like President Ronald Regan did in the 90’s with Star Wars.

  3. Tariffs are a valuable and important international negotiating tool. And, President Trump is using them to the absolutely best advantage of the USA.
How many countries suddenly decided to re-evaluate their tariffs on US products as soon as the US said no more trade imbalance? I saw something like 70 yesterday, but I do not have confirmation.
    .
The real economic opponent is China, and curiously they were also one of the countries that imposed the worst retaliatory tariffs on the US in response. And, now, President Trump is going to focus on that trade imbalance. However, I am sure the countries that did say “let’s talk” better actually show up for that talk.

  4. Wow, this is exactly the headline I expected from MRAK.

Trump’s actions are so stunningly idiotic, yet y’all will engage in whatever gymnastics is necessary to show that he’s some kind of genius. Here’s a simple fact: he’s an idiot, and you are too if you still support him.

    • Bill.
I don’t know what gymnastics has to do with Trump policy.
However, since you know what MRAK is going to post like, you must like it as you keep coming back to read more.
Do you prefer to be inflamed or informed or both? Either way, MRAK has you covered my friend!
Your clicks equal more revenue and the show goes on!

    • Bro, seriously. Trump has no idea what he’s doing, he’s a child. His tariff philosophy is based on a book by a guy that made up his economist reference and data (see: Peter Navarro and Ron Vara). The only reason he pulled the plug now is because the writing was on the wall that the GOP was in trouble in next year’s elections if he kept it up any longer. People think he’s playing 4-d chess, but really he’s struggling to spell his name with crayons.

    • What a mess – all completely unnecessary, amateurish, reckless, and destructive. And the most damaging thing about it is that reliance on stability has now vanished. How many businesses will invest in anything, knowing that the tariff situation could change in either direction at the whim of Donald Trump, a perpetually capricious, petty, and unstable individual? Would you invest under these circumstances? Trust gained over decades has been lost in two weeks’ time. And it now can’t be recovered.

    • Stunningly idiotic.
      Please explain how?
Last time I checked, a whole host of nations are now at the negotiating table to balance the tariffs between our nations. But… how exactly is it idiotic? Nations that thought they had the upper hand now find out the US is not going to stand for anything other then being an equal partner.

  5. Trump is always 3-4 steps ahead of the Dems. They always think they have another “gotcha” moment then he turns the tables. Of course, its crickets with mainstream media about all the countries coming to the table. They’ll need to go back to the stale, tired talking points…climate change, Trump is a facist, a nazi, kkk, recist, hates old ladies, is mean to kittens, blah, blah, blah…

  6. Markets soaring. And Chuck Schumer just announced the “Trump Slump” and that it was irreparable. It is that Schumer is just dumb, or that he can’t stop lying. He is the king of hyperbole.

    • Old chucky is on the run. Shortly the FBI will be at his door step. All these $200.000 a year wage politicians worth between $20 mil and $500 mill are about to get their just reward. Being on the take at the expense of this nations kids doesn’t pay in the long run. Pelosi, Watters, schiff. They are about to get burned down.

  7. Even if the “pause” is meant to look like strength, the reality is that the economic disruption and diplomatic fallout from the initial tariffs move can’t be undone. The damage — to market confidence, U.S. credibility, and business operations — has already been done. This is not a strategic pause – it’s a disguised retreat.

    • Correct, but MAGA and MRAK will spin, spin, spin, trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Trump went wobbly. Simple as that. He can’t take the pressure of the markets crashing and the big money boys hammering on him.

      • Dog, please read “The Art of the Deal” – Trump’s book. He’s following his plan and it is working very well. Only the ignorant can’t see how well the master deal maker is winning.

        • Ah yes, The Art of the Deal — ghostwritten fiction for people who think bankruptcies are a strategy and not a consequence. If you think following a blueprint of scams, fraud, and self-delusion counts as ‘winning,’ you might want to take a long, hard look at your own standards for success. The only thing he’s mastered is grifting people like you into mistaking incompetence for genius.

    • Can you enumerate the damages you speak of?
Not vague statements like “…the economic disruption and diplomatic fallout from the initial tariffs move can’t be undone….” Actual real disruptions and fallouts.
      Asking for a friend.

  8. Trump wins AGAIN. Every country EXCEPT China will get negotiated tariff break, while stock market gets a huge up-run. China is now out in the weeds. Trump is so damn smart. Democrats are so damn stupid.

    • BREAKING: Pilot who had deliberately tried to crash an airplane, changes his mind last minute and narrowly avoids hitting the ground. Hailed as hero for saving the lives of everyone on board. On the other hand this tariff pause is going to be very bad for the factory I started building last week

      • Once again. A comment from someone who cannot be bothered to look anything up before opening their mouth. Has the S&P dropped to 4100 yet? Or do you still want to cling to that tidbit of stupidity?
        .
        Now, to your comment.
Aerobatic pilots do that all the time. They knowingly and deliberately make it look like they are about to crash, and pull out.
Your problem is you assume President Trump is incompetent solely because of your political and person bias. If you were a rational adult you would look at the actions and ask if the act was deliberate, with a plan to get to the right results.

  9. Let’s cut the BS and say it like it is:
Democrats are f*cked, at least until the left-wing commie degenerates are gone (meaning, dead). Younger, unindoctrinated Democrats may be able to rehabilitate this scourged party in 20 years.

  10. It would be interesting to see the portfolios of the 13 billionaire-laced Trump cabinet…..before and after the tariffs. The ultimate insider trading transfer of wealth from the middle class (401k’s) to the “elites” and the oligarchs. Was this the first story on this site in the past 10 days about the US economy? The editors seemed to look the other way during the huge losses suffered by their readers.

    • It was pretty much crickets. I asked for such stories, but was rebuffed by the editor…

Fair and balanced all the way…

      • Whidbey, are you always full of it or did you forget this conversation?

Dear Editor: Care to write a story or two about how MAGAnomics is faring this week?

Suzanne Downing April 4, 2025 At 2:49 pm
I hope you are a subscriber to the newsletter Dog. If not, you may have missed it, plus you may have missed the story today on Alaska fishing impacts, but you keep doing you. I’m busy over here. – sd

You even posted multiple comments on the article Suzanne directed you towards and from what I can tell you’ve commented on every other article dealing with the issue.

Granted you still have yet to acknowledge some very basic facts about this issue, so it sure is looking like you are full of it.

      • That’s because you’re a cheap sob, Whidbey. Why don’t you pay your dues to MRAK and pop $250 in the mail. Your bandwidth usage is more than anyone else here. You are a freeloader…….but that’s how you live your life.

      • Tell you what, Whidbey.
        Write one yourself.
        .
You have no end of words to share in the comments section, but when it comes time to actually provide something of substance… .crickets.
        .
Typical leftist. Always wanting others to do the work for them.

    • @ Sebastian,
Jealousy and envy are your sins. If you had made something of yourself you would be enjoying life. But you are relegated to being a whiner all the way to your grave. Sorry your life didn’t turn out better. You would have been so much happier had you learned to enjoy your life.

      • THIS JUST IN: Egg prices hit an all-time high in March. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that a dozen eggs averaged $6.227 last month, up from $5.897 in February. So. Much. Winning. Marla, don’t be afraid, take a peek at your 401K balance and thank Peter Navarro for your blessings!

        • Everything is good, Sebastian. I even purchased Peter Navarro’s book, In Trump Time. His economic analysis might be a few bumps over your own capacity. But you can go to library.

        • What do egg prices have to do with tariffs?
Please explain it, preferably without making false claims that are so easy to disprove that it make using autocorrect look difficult.

        • This just in, inflation is dropping! It went from 6,100 to 4,100 almost overnight… oh wait… I meant the CPI dropped to 2.4% in Feb from 2.8% in Jan.

  11. A completely unfathomable policy to begin with. Business nor nations can operate on uncertainty like Trump relishes. Quit with “Art of the Deal” nonsense, Tariffs are harmful to all involved and paid by the consumer. If you blindly follow your leader that you are trying to defend inefficient edicts that try to manage economies and competition by federal edict while costing ALL involved just because it is proposed by your candidate you may have a special case of TDS all your own.

  12. “I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud. Nothing I can do. I could find a cure to the most devastating disease — a disease that would wipe out entire nations, or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded, and these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements. They won’t do it no matter what.” President Donald Trump while speaking before Congress

Earlier this morning Democrats were begging for President Trump to drop tariffs, now he puts a pause on the reciprocal tariffs and…well the comments from the peanut gallery speak for themselves. Some people will never be happy.

    • The same could be said of MAGA robots like yourself. Is Trump still a genius this morning now that most of yesterday’s gains are being wiped out?

Do you not realize that Trump is simply a transactional person and a capricious one at that. Time for some sober reflections of your own.

      • The markets are at about the level they were in August 2024.
I do not know about you, but my portfolio was doing very well last August. In fact, these recent drops have ruined it to the point that I will have to change my retirement date by zero days.

    • Except Trump didn’t end all the tariffs, which were never reciprocal in the first place. Now we have a 10% (minimum) national sales tax on all imports. All you Democrats should be thrilled at the biggest tax increase, ever. You Democrats (pretending to be Republican) were happy with Biden’s devaluing of the US dollar by 20%. Now you want even more inflation.

      • M,
Aren’t you always going on about reading comprehension? Give it another try, maybe you’ll actually understand what it is that I wrote.

I know you enjoy spreading leftist talking points and beliefs. Can you ask those who you repeat ad nauseam about the sales tax they keep talking about, specifically if I buy something made in America or an imported item that isn’t impacted by a tariff, or if an imported item subject to a tariff but the importer does not pass the cost of the tariff along the supply chain with the item, or how a tariff is applied upon import and isn’t predicated upon an actual sale, how exactly is it a national sales tax? A tariff is not a sales tax, no matter how many times you repeat that talking point.

On a side note I really like how you keep trying to convince yourself of your political views and where they land in comparison to mine. Are you still pushing for production taxes to fund an overly bloated government while claiming to be conservative? Just be yourself, inform yourself, and be honest with yourself and your beliefs.

      • I see know, thanks for breaking it down in such simplistic terms. That explains the previous impeachments, it’s more about your “feels” than anything of substance.

  13. A tariff is a tax, a tariff is a tax, a tariff is a tax. Go to Walmart and refuse to buy a cheap piece of subsidized Chinese junk. On April 15th refuse to file income taxes. See where each gets you. Maybe we could use Venezuelan gang members to manufacture cars in this country to make trade fair.

    • Maybe we could train Tren de Aragua gang members to assemble Teslas for room and board if we are forced to fly them back. In special compounds. Fair trade with the Chinese.

  14. Trump has been steadfast in his pursuit of fair trade since the 1980s. In one week he’s put the entire world on notice that he’s going to overhaul the corrupt system that was put in place by globalist liberals and greedy conservatives starting as far back as the 1970s. In one week he’s established a permanent 10% tariff on all imports. In one week he’s put the worst of the worst on notice that they’re going to have to sit down with him and negotiate new, fair trade deals. In one week he’s firmly put China on notice that he’s going to reverse their long-term plans to dominate our economy.
In that same week, the columnists, pundits, politicians, market players, and supposed reporters all lost their minds.
After nearly ten years, I’ve learned to wait Trump out. He’s always playing a long game, and no longer gives a fig for all the screaming from the chicken-littles out there.
    Amazing!
