Pride Month drags on at Anchorage City Hall

The LGBTQ+ pride flag flies at Anchorage City Hall on July 1, 2025.

On July 1, the LGBTQ+ flag is still flying at Anchorage City Hall, even though Pride Month ended June 30. It may become a permanent feature under the current leadership of the city.

Today is also Mayor Suzanne LaFrance’s first anniversary as mayor. Last week she presided over the raising of the rainbow and transgender flag over Anchorage as a part of the Pride Month celebrations, where she made sure the municipality had a strong presence, paid for by taxpayers.

  1. The “pride” stuff has always conflicted me. I am reluctant to invoke it, but both the Old and New Testaments talk about pride. In general, the commentary is not good. Proverbs 23 provides in part: “A person’s pride will bring humiliation, but one who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor”. There are other mentions of pride.

If I was asked by the LGBTQRS+ crowd, I would suggest that maybe the celebration of “pride” may be the wrong way to go. But these folks do not strike me as good listeners.

  2. Serve your country honorably, you are recognized for one day with Veterans Day. Die serving your country, you are honored for one day with Memorial Day. How in the world did this pride phenomenon get an entire month, plus many other “special” days to be honored. For a small sliver of the population? Could not one person in Congress have stood up and say, “enough already?”

    • I suspect the Veterans and Gold Star families make up a much larger part of the population than the ‘pride’ crowd. And that multi-color flag should be replaced with the MIA flag.

If it were not for the people who sacrificed for our country, the ‘pride’ crowd would not be able to even voice their protests.

  3. Only the weak need to persistently boast about their existence because they do not possess any real personal power or influence. This is why they must be loud, this is why they steal the spectrum of light as their own possession.
I see some sheep complain of right wing demagoguery (aka Trump) whilst conveniently overlooking the same sort of display on the left.
I watch from the center, all the fools who toil with the opposite sides of themselves yet never seem to actually confront the adversary within them.
Keep fighting you all. Eventually you will wear yourselves out and the rest of us can finally have some damn peace!

  4. This is what I expect from the democrats in Anchorage it is getting more like LA , Portland and Seattle more socialist running the city.

  5. I bet it will stay up at least through the 4th of July holiday. Just to stick it to everyone else. Never enough gay at the MOA!

  6. It is not just Pride month, it is the way Society has been conditioned to speak.
For example LGB Lesbian women, Gay men, Bisexual both sexes. Gay is used to describe all genders when speaking of the Homosexual movement. This double speak fosters confusion.
Further the whole alpha/numeric coding that is ever changing. This is done purposefully to keep Heterosexual people on the Defensive by not knowing the coding for that day.
Used to be what you did in the bedroom was your business, those days are long forgotten. The Radicle Homosexual movement of in your face, your kids face, with the aid of tax dollars is the norm. The flood gates are open on anything goes and to resist condemns one as a bigot Enough is enough.

  7. Anchorage is becoming another Seattle, Portland et.al. Unfortunately, Anchorage is the economic engine that the rest of Alaska depends on. But it is a city in slow and managed decline. They elect the Chris Constant types and wonder why there is an out-flux of population and businesses.

A step in the right direction would be to move the municipal elections from April to November when the most of America votes. Having Anchorage elections in April is a distinct advantage to the special interests. They get their people out to vote while the remainder of Anchorage can’t figure out why there is an election in April. So you get special interest products such as Constant and LeFrance getting
    reelected as a norm.

    Anchorage can do much better.

  8. I guess the leftists did not get, or understand the memo.
Kowtowing to a small segment of the population is losing them voters. Insisting on pushing the LGBTQWERTY agenda is harming their chances of re-election.
    .
And, I say good. Keep it up leftists.
