Opinion: Alaska Family Council speaks on governor’s race, invites Christians to prayer gathering

In a typical Republican Primary election, one candidate wins and people generally put aside their differences and stand with the Republican who garnered the most votes. However, this is not a typical election because we are in a ranked-choice system. And yes…as everything has played out, it has become painfully obvious how wrong and confusing and devious this system is.

In no uncertain terms, we need to vote YES to get rid of the mess that is ranked-choice voting. When Tom Begich bowed out to let Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins remain as the sole Democrat in the race, the architects of RCV made it obvious they don’t even believe in the very system of “more choices” that they advocated for when they pushed it on our State.

That being said, Alaska Family Action has determined we are not going to endorse a candidate for Alaska Governor. We will acknowledge that Bernadette Wilson received the greatest number of votes in the jungle Primary against all the other Republicans because that is factual.

At the same time, our calculus— and this was not easy— is that we have a greater chance to prevent a Democrat socialist from becoming our next Governor if we tell Alaskans to “rank the red.” Vote for Bernadette Wilson, Dave Bronson, or Treg Taylor first but make certain to rank the other two. If you do not, we are almost certain to lose.

Please know this was not an easy decision.  Prayerfully, we will prevent the Governor from turning blue and we will end the RCV mess once and for all.

Speaking of prayer, Alaska Family Council is starting and hosting a prayer gathering on the second Thursday of each month to ask for forgiveness, wisdom and direction for our state.

Our first gathering, for those of you able to attend in Anchorage, is this Thursday, September 10th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. If you are interested in joining, please send an email to [email protected] for details. For 2026, the dates are September 10th, October 8th, November 5th and December 10th. All gatherings will be 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

On Monday, November 2nd, we will be hosting a special prayer gathering and call to fast for the election. Again, email [email protected] for details.

For those of you unable to attend our in person prayer gatherings in Anchorage, we highly encourage you to start your own to lift up our state and nation.

“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
