Murkowski will vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski announced today that she will support the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who has been nominated to be a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. 

“After multiple in-depth conversations with Judge Jackson and deliberative review of her record and recent hearings, I will support her historic nomination to be an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court,” Murkowski said in a statement released after hours on the East Coast.

“My support rests on Judge Jackson’s qualifications, which no one questions; her demonstrated judicial independence; her demeanor and temperament; and the important perspective she would bring to the court as a replacement for Justice Breyer. She clerked for Justice Breyer before working in the private sector and as a federal public defender, and then serving as Vice Chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, a district court judge, and now an appeals court judge. She will bring to the Supreme Court a range of experience from the courtroom that few can match given her background in litigation. 

“It also rests on my rejection of the corrosive politicization of the review process for Supreme Court nominees, which, on both sides of the aisle, is growing worse and more detached from reality by the year. While I have not and will not agree with all of Judge Jackson’s decisions and opinions, her approach to cases is carefully considered and is generally well-reasoned. She answered satisfactorily to my questions about matters like the Chevron doctrine, the Second Amendment, landmark Alaska laws, and Alaska Native issues. The support she has received from law enforcement agencies around the country is significant and demonstrates the judge is one who brings balance to her decisions.”

“I will support the motion to discharge Judge Jackson’s nomination later tonight, and her confirmation later this week,” Murkowski concluded.

Jackson is most assuredly headed for confirmation by the Senate and will join the Supreme Court upon the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer. She is considered by conservatives to be the most radical leftwing activist judge to ever be appointed to the Supreme Court.

    • Nope, she has her motives. She very well intends to attract the D voters of Alaska, while maintaining some base of RINO voters, she intends to eat her cake and have it too.

    • By extension, you are correct. Jackson has let pedophiles off with light sentences, and they reoffend. So yes, Murkowski either doesn’t care or approves.
      Then off course, Jackson cannot even make a distinction as to what constitutes a man or a woman, so she is a really bad choice for a SCOTUS justice. Again Murkowski doesn’t seem to care, because Murkowski only considers herself.
      It doesn’t take much thought to realize that all Jackson is is an affirmative action choice. The irony is that, if Democrats can’t distinguish gender anymore, why is it so important that they install a woman?

        • How so? Prior to even naming her, Biden said (with help I’m sure) that he wanted a black female on the SCOTUS. Is it that hard for you to get your head around Steve’s comment without having a knee jerk reaction? The same thing was done for Kamala Harris. Tell me how someone with 3% of the polling – and who dropped out FIRST among all Dem candidates – gets nominated for the V.P. position. Are you going call anyone who points these things out “racist”? Looks like you’re the one who’s asleep at the switch.

Judge Jackson’s sentencing record is line with those of other judges and the sentencing guidelines. The preposterous suggestion of “Lying Ted Cruz” and other senators that she is soft on child pornographers has been thoroughly repudiated.

        And please do not bring up Alex Jones…that particular nutcase is an individual with his own proclivities and does NOT represent the vast majority of individuals that object to either the candidates proven lenience as to facilitators of child porn nor the approval of our not so fair Senator.

        And as to ‘sentencing guidelines’, perhaps those within the candidate’s circle of similar ‘guidelines’ need to revisit their light sentences, so as to prevent said offenders to so easily reoffend again….

        And who has thoroughly repudiated such charges?

        Those that think and act as she has, or those that are victims of said abuse.

        Or better yet, those that treat stories within malfeasance, though true, because it makes for bad press, such as the Hunter Biden revelations, which are just now coming unto fruition two years after being hidden by those that repudiated said information.

        There is truth, and there is truth that has been not only ignored, but fought against, prevailing a lie.

She just refused to answer the stupid question. Republicans are not the only ones who engage in this behavior. They asked politically charged questions to Trump’s nominees. The justices nominated by Trump refused to answer those questions. Senate confirmation hearing are now just political theater. Dems will find a reason to oppose any nominee a Republican puts forward, and Republicans will manufacture equally specious reasons to oppose Democratic candidates. The only way to survive this political kabuki is to refuse to engage.

      • To adjudicate the new Violence Against Women Act, there has to be a definition of the word woman. How can she, or the rest of the court, or any other court,judge any case involving the VAWA without that definition?

    • Not true, she said “I do not hold a position on whether individuals possess natural rights,” I’m not sure how anyone, let alone a prospective Supreme Court Justice holds no position on that. Individuals possessing natural rights is foundational to this Country.

      • Exactly! Individual inalienable rights are what guarantees freedom and liberty. If your “rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” came from the state, then there is no freedom. The “state” (or those from the government) can just grant it or take it away to force your compliance (Covid shots anyone???). Government is supposed to work for the people not the other way around. A supreme court justice charged with interpreting the foundational document, who refuses to take a stand, should automatically be disqualified, not only for cowardice, but clear misunderstanding of the basic tenets she is to sit in judgement of.

        • Our God given natural rights include life, liberty, and property. A candidate for a seat on the Supreme Court falls far short of the necessary level of understanding if they can not explain these natural rights, or they equivocate on the matter.

Anyone that supports babies, little tiny helpless human beings, being murdered up to birth, is not likely to stand in defense of the children that grow from the babies that miraculously run that heinous gauntlet. It appears more and more like the Senator wants to find excuses for making tough decisions. The votes are tough because people have figured out that the results matter and that the Left has largely “captured” the judicial branch. I fear that those of us remaining in Alaska will see and feel the adverse effects of this appointment sooner than we would like.

  41. Tom Boutin wrote a piece in MRAK a few weeks back that said Murkowski is the best we can do for a Republican candidate. As I read Tom’s article, which was based primarily on her support for gun rights, I couldn’t help thinking of all the instances over the past several years that Lisa was a key swing vote against conservative and Republican interests. Politicians like Murkowski count on voters having short memories – my hope is that conservative-minded Alaskans use this example of deceit to rank her dead last. We can do better than Murkowski.

  42. I didn’t think it possible but Lisa Murkowski has now sunk to a new low! She has now placed her seal of approval on a Judge that protects pedophiles, sexual predators and terrorists. On top of this, she has no idea what a Woman is. Murkowski with the other RINO clowns Snow and Romney have now placed a stake at the heart of our Constitution and the rule of law. On top of this, they have endangered every child and woman in this country by placing a dangerous radical on the highest court in the land. This is a planned and plotted assignment to protect those in our government that have aided human sex trafficking through their policies. If you haven’t awakened to the sheer evil within our government, this is a wake up call.
