Murkowski casts lone GOP vote to confirm Vanita Gupta, radical choice at Justice Dept.

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski was the only Republican senator who voted on to confirm the highly divisive Vanita Gupta as Associate U.S. Attorney General in the Department of Justice. With Murkowski’s vote, it was unnecessary for the Democrats to call on Vice President Kamala Harris to break what would have been a 50-50 tie vote.

Gupta is best known for her radical positions espoused on social media. For example, on Twitter, she compared Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to Voldemort.

During her confirmation hearings, she expressed regret for her partisan edge:

“I regret the harsh rhetoric that I have used at times in the last several years. I can pledge to you today that if I am confirmed, you won’t be hearing that kind of rhetoric for me,” Gupta told the Senate Judiciary Committee last month.

Gupta was responding to sharp criticism from Republican members of the Senate. But after that March 10 hearing, she “liked” a Twitter post from another account that called former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley a “snake.”

Sen Ted Cruz of Texas wrote, “Gupta’s talk is cheap. She is a partisan ideologue.”

An immediate critique of Alaska Sen. Murkowski’s lone vote to support Gupta came from none other than her 2022 opponent, Kelly Tshibaka, who said:

“Lisa Murkowski showed again that she supports the leftist agenda of the Biden Administration by approving his radical choice for the third-highest position at the Department of Justice. Vanita Gupta is a partisan ideologue who has shown open hostility to religious liberty, school choice, and law enforcement. In a Senate hearing just last year, she urged obedience to the ‘Defund the Police’ movement’s demand to cut law enforcement funding and roll back public safety efforts at the state and local level. This was a vote where Lisa Murkowski could have stood up for Alaskans and showed that she cares more about us than she does her friends in the Democratic Party and the halls of power in Washington, D.C. She failed us again.”

Senate Minority Leader McConnell said that Gupta has “a record of astoundingly radical positions. She’s levied attacks on members of this body, and during the confirmation process, she employed the loosest possible interpretation of her oath to deliver honest testimony,” McConnell said.

    She is officially out of here. And, sorry, I disagree with all the replies stating that BM 2 will ensure a Murkowski win. That ballot measure will ensure a democrat win, but the Pelosi/Schumer machine will never allow someone who once had a (R) following their name to hold office ever again.

  9. I wonder if the Senator has ever looked around and realized that the people who used to support her are no longer around. It is fairly simple: a US Senator will never lack for “friends”. And there are always people to marvel at the Senator’s vision and courage, not to mention those that will laugh at her jokes. But then, who cares about friends? Susan Collins was a friend but may not be good enough for Senator Murkowski anymore. Another question: What principles are being advanced by supporting a nasty leftist Easterner who will punish Alaska at every turn?

I wonder if these white leaders didn’t really know what they were doing when they were creating a more equitable society when they put a student or interviewee birth over the applicant’s character. Now, these same white liberals (democrat and republican) the political parties are Bombarded by them. that radical leaders eventually WILL destroy both political parties by the radicalism of a few lucky employees promoted and hired. They just don’t know anything about history, rules, process, order. Moderate (liberal) leaders just want their own way and their own side heard. Aside their Resumes and connections, their characters aren’t that great by seeing what issues are important to them.
    The elevating of someone because of their birth, birth place, and social status, making skin color a god, it has all been going on a long time.

  16. Murkowski thinks it’s all about her. You are elected to represent your constituents.. That has not been the case. She is doing great harm to Alaska. I have at times held my nose and voted for candidates I did approve, the “ lesser of evils.” I will not do it in her case if she runs again.

  23. Gupta is Murkowski’s sansculotte for the new, DOJ agenda. Cancel the police, CRT, support for BLM/Antifa. It’s not going away, folks.
    This is a call to fellow Alaskans:
    We need to get Lisa OUT!

Alaska had a chance to get rid of her when her father committed the most corrupt act in Alaska’s political history, (Apart from the theft of the PFD) by appointing his own daughter to his newly vacated seat when he became Gov. He essentially treated the people of Alaska’s senate seat as if it were a royal title owned by his family alone and could be handed down as he saw fit.

    How did Alaskans respond?

    They did nothing.

    Ends up they got 2 more chances to bounce her, and they again, did nothing.

    Then, asleep at the wheel, yet again, they let prop 2 go through, and now her win, if not assured, has an entire election system tilted in its direction..

    Take a good look at Lisa, Alaska. She’s a creature of your own making.. and she will probably be around until she decides to find a way to give it to her kid..and what will you do then? You may have to actually decide whether you are serfs or free men and women. Wouldn’t that be something.

  27. Lisa knows she’s done-for, and is engaging in a scorched earth political exit strategy.
    Make sure all those bridges are burned to a cinder to prevent you from ever returning across them.
