Journalist who signed recall petition will work at CNN

Blake Essig, a journalist at KTUU in Anchorage, is one of the newest hires at CNN, where he will be the Tokyo correspondent for CNN International.

Essig joined KTUU in 2012. In 2019, he signed the petition to recall Gov. Mike Dunleavy.

He was still working for KTUU in November when Must Read Alaska reported that he was among several journalists and media managers in Alaska who signed the recall petition during the summer months. However, he is no longer listed on the news company’s website.

  1. That’s OK. His recall will not work against the governor and I bet he is in step with his other fake new buddies at CNN working to destroy our president, which will not work out well for them either….These kind of folks really dislike us the voters and the folks that work their tails off to make this country work.

  2. I do not understand how CNN remains in business. Their ratings are weakening and advertisers must be going elsewhere. Their “news” is a complete joke. All of that said, this episode should explain a lot about KTUU. They look cute and home-grown but there is much to doubt about their work.

  3. I too used to believe that Blake Essig was one of the better ones over at KTUU. And while he did a good job reading the teleprompter, he was basically another pretty face who wasn’t putting his personal bias aside. While I don’t wish anyone ill, I won’t feel bad for him when CNN fully tanks.

  4. What a surprise. Maybe Essig will decide to run for governor of Alaska. What, he doesn’t live here? That doesn’t make any difference now days if he declares “intent” to move here, according to the recent decision about the non-resident with “intent” to be a resident of Homer and now on their city council. Judge Josie Garton just ruled that was now law, didn’t she? “Intent”. That’s all it takes now. Should be the same rules for everyone, even for state elections, one would think. Precedent is set.
