‘Give me liberty or give me death’: The Anchorage public continues to batter Meg Zaletel’s universal masking law

Testimony at the Anchorage Assembly on Wednesday night was passionate, raucous, and at times members of the public were escorted to the door for disrupting the meeting with applause or shouting. One man was hauled off by police in handcuffs for being too energetic in his expression of displeasure with the attempts the Assembly was making on liberty.

The Anchorage Assembly’s leftist majority may have thought they had worn out the public with a 7-hour filibuster on Tuesday night, but nearly as many people returned Wednesday for the opportunity to tell the Assembly “No” on Ordinance 2021-91, which would put everyone two and older in masks whenever they are in public.

By the time midnight rolled around Wednesday, some people had been waiting in line for 13 hours over two days for their three minutes at the microphone.

As occurred on Tuesday night, the insults were hurled freely at the Assembly, and Chairwoman Suzanne LaFrance had to call for five-minute breaks, a punishment for the public outburst.

Testimony will continue on Thursday at 6 pm, and there were many more in line for an Assembly meeting that has brought focus on the handiwork of Assemblywoman Meg Zaletel, who is the prime sponsor of the masking ordinance. Zaletel, for the second day in a row, did not show up to face the public’s wrath, but attended the meeting from the privacy of her home, as did fellow leftist Pete Petersen, who cosponsored the ordinance.

Many people in the audience wore paper yellow Stars of David, emblematic of the way the Jews were singled out by the Nazis leading up to their genocide. Still others held or wore signs that said “Recall Meg Zaletel,” and “I will not comply.”

LaFrance, for the second night in a row, had lost control of the meeting, and admonished the crowd repeatedly to stop clapping. At one point, she asked those who had clapped to raise their hands, and when one out of eight people raised their hands, she told security officers that they would be the ones removed if there was another outburst.

  1. Give me the Liberty to walk around freely without a mask or a vaccination and infect as many people as I can. Give me death if I don’t get the vaccination and do these things because it’s what’s best for society and my fellow man. Now I know all those brainwashed facebookers out there will say the vaccination doesn’t do anything. Others would argue that it slows down the spreading of the virus and if you are infected it makes your illness and recovery time less severe. The same people would say why wear a mask it doesn’t do any good. The purpose of the mask is to trap water droplets in your exhale that contain the virus. Remember the virus can’t live very long on a dry surface. It needs a vehicle to spread and that is your breath. Recently on here somebody said what about when your glasses fog up aren’t you getting virus all over your glasses? And that would be true the mask is at 100% airtight but if you take your mask off after about a half an hour wearing and you notice that it’s moist on the inside, you’ll see that it is trapping some of the virus instead of spewing it out on your neighbor. It’s like a lot of the coal burning power plants, they’re trapping a lot of the pollutants, but they’re not trapping all of it. I know a lot of the readers will have a hard time absorbing this common sense explanation and if you do simply read it several times and perhaps it will sink in if you’re lucky for those of you with a closed mind, I’m afraid there’s nothing anybody can say or do accept bend you over and kick you in the pants. Okay flame away all you nine year olds.

    • Please cite any and all studies that show masks preventing any disease or the spread thereof. If they worked, then why are the hospitals supposedly over run? Of course they are not over run, but that is not the issue here. Now, show me how the multitude of “breakthrough” cases of covid for those who are vaccinated are any different than the cases for those who are not vaccinated. The survival rate remains above 99% regardless of vaccination status. I’m guessing maybe you are the one who should get off his high horse and do the research instead of just spewing your hatred for your fellow citizens.

      Most of the founders, signers of the Declaration of Independence, pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to defend their liberty from the tyranny of oppression. Most lost their fortunes, many lost their lives in that struggle.
      It is very unfortunate that people like yourself and the Assembly now use their very words in a perversion of the truth. It remains the greatest act of patriotism to fight against the rising tide of the tyranny of government decree against the desire of freedom loving Americans. Americans should be proud of the fact that some 45-50% of us are still willing to push back against the dictates of a tyrannical government and health care system. I will never comply. Fighting against what a piece of fabric, a mask, now stands for, tyranny, is no different. Fighting against the mask is fighting for the flag.           Government is supposed to protect our rights…Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness…you know those inalienable rights given to us by our Creator. Government is also supposed to protect private property.

          You have missed the point…it’s not about a piece of fabric. It’s about the right to choose…self determination; freedom. It’s about individuals being in charge of their own destiny. Isn’t there any other news in Alaska, or is MRAK intentionally focusing on this theme to keep the Base stirred up and clicking away? MRAK is now all-Covid all-the-time because it is a divisive subject that keeps people raging away at their keyboards.

      • Oh didn’t you hear? The CDC recently changed the definition of “vaccine” to exclude the word “Immunity”.

        Before the change, the definition for “vaccination” read, “the act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce immunity to a specific disease.” Now, the word “immunity” has been switched to “protection.” The term “vaccine” also got a makeover. The CDC’s definition changed from “a product that stimulates a person’s immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease” to the current “a preparation that is used to stimulate the body’s immune response against diseases.”

        This is an example of the BS were up against.

    • The staff inside Prov has a very different explanation for why they’re overwhelmed. Maybe you should talk to the people actually treating patients at Prov and not the out of touch CEO who has an agenda to push. One of my children is a caregiver at Prov, and I cannot post their gender, what kind of caregiver or where inside Prov they work for fear of reprisal. That should tell you everything you need to know about who’s running the show over there. The problems he has to deal with are well within his power to affect and yet he continues to fire staff, many of whom have recovered from COVID. That’s the truth of the healthcare situation.

However the radical leftists have simply perverted the rule of law with selective enforcement, targeted enforcement, or a complete lack of enforcement. I have come to the conclusion that I am ready to just ignore any law that I deem not applicable to me. The attitude of “rules for thee but not for me” that many on the left embrace is just plain unAmerican. I simply recommend to make a choice to not participate in these unjust laws, and businesses who agree should be supported. The others be damned.

        There are eight levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important.

        Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people.
        Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible; poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.
        Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.
        Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the government. That way you are able to create a police state.
        Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).
        Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – take control of what children learn in school.
        Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the government and schools.
        Class Welfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more disconnect, and it will be easier to take (tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

  7. As a Republican I am embarrassed by the actions in the Assembly Halls. I do not agree with the mask mandate, but dropping to the level of Dems in their scream louder attitude accomplishes nothing. I thought we Republicans were supposed to be the adults in the room. Disappointing.

    • Unfortunately, the last twenty years has shown that being polite no longer works when dealing with the Left. I wish this was not the case. When was the last time that a lizard-of-the-Left indicated a willingness to listen or to compromise on anything?

Americans must use caution before using symbols coming out of German-Nazi and that onlookers understand the context behind why its appropriate using it for one’s protest.

What was very apparent, in the Wednesday night meeting, they had more phone call-ins then they normally have and the amazing thing, about 95% sounded like they were given a “canned speech” as if they were reading off a script that they asked to read.. The people reading may have been real??. And of course most of those speeches were longer then then the 3 minutes allowed and had to be cut off.. And of course they were for the Ordinance.. There were some that was against it, and you knew they weren’t scripted..

      Something else I noticed with many of those testifying over the phone in support of the ordinance is that they were short of breath, and full of anxiety. These people live in fear. They are manipulated through their fear and they demand everyone else follow recommendations that remove freedom, just so they can feel safer.

      Shame, blame and ridicule were a common theme in many of those speakers.

      It is quite interesting that they are willing to mandate artificial health but have completely disregarded natural remedies and even pharma remedies that have been shown to work.

    I would prefer a design engineer from 3M present information on mask efficiency and effectiveness. The medical “experts” routinely refer their patients to specialist, so why don’t we have presentations made by persons involved in the design and implementation of masks.
    Take emotion out of the equation and use true science.

    Regarding the new “emergency” mask mandate, I want to know under what authority and based on what hard science you are declaring this “emergency” and under what specific authority you are abrogating the expressed will of the citizens (especially the voters) of this municipality and under what authority you have had the unmitigated gall to override the Mayor’s veto of your shady vote to enact this bogus mandate! You are abusing your authority and want you to publicly address the part of the Charter that gives you authority to declare an emergency, the authority to do, which I understand is the domain AOC Mayor alone! Is it your intent to usurp. The authority of another branch of municipal government?
