Commonwealth North is hosting a classic Lincoln-Douglas style debate on ballot measure 2, which seeks to repeal ranked-choice voting, jungle primaries, and certain campaign finance laws. The debate will be Monday, September 28, 4:15 PM at the Petroleum Club of Anchorage. Craig Richards, former Alaska Attorney General, will argue for repeal. Scott Kendall, an architect of the current system, will argue against it. Jon Katchen, lawyer and Commonwealth North board member, will moderate.
This is a true debate, not a panel. The two will present their cases in a classic Lincoln-Douglas format: timed constructive speeches, direct cross-examination of one another, and rebuttals, with equal speaking time for each side. The formal debate runs 36 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of audience Q&A.
