The Defense Department is moving and aircraft into strategic positions across the Middle East to improve U.S. force protection, increase the defense of Israel, and ensure the United States can respond to a variety of contingencies, said Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh at a press briefing on Monday.
The steps being taken include deployment of an additional fighter squadron to the Middle East, reinforcing the defensive air support capability. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is sending the USS Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier Strike Group to replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group in the Central Command area of responsibility.
Additionally, Secretary Austin has ordered additional ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers to the U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command regions. The Department is also taking steps to increase our readiness to deploy additional land-based ballistic missile defense.
These actions are meant to prepare for and mitigate against the possibility of regional escalation by Iran or Iran’s partners and proxies.
According to an anonymously sourced story in Axios, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is saying that Iran and Hezbollah may attack Israel within the next 24 to 48 hours. Iran and Hezbollah have vowed to retaliate for Israel’s killing of top Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists last week.
“The sources said Blinken stressed [in a call to G-7 leaders] that the US believes Iran and Hezbollah will both retaliate,” according to Axios, which added that the U.S. “doesn’t know the exact timing of the attacks.”
The news comes the same day that reports have come in about an unknown number of U.S. personnel injured in a suspected rocket attack on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq on Monday
“Initial indications are that several U.S. personnel were injured,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Base personnel are conducting a post-attack damage assessment. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
Since the horrific Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, which resulted in the most Jewish people killed since Hitler’s Holocaust, the Secretary of Defense has reiterated that the United States will keep America’s “ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel.”
Already in the region is the USS WASP Amphibious Ready Group / Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) operating in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Austin spoke yesterday with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to reiterate the U.S. support for Israel’s security and right to self-defense against threats from Iran, Lebanese Hezbollah, Houthis, and other Iranian-backed terrorist groups.
When Trump was president the world wasn’t tearing itself apart. Or on the verge of a major recession.
And that somehow means what? That Trump was the better president? Correlation does not equal causation.
While Biden’s presidency has been lackluster to say the least, saying that just because things were marginally more peaceful under Trump means he was the better statesman is a spurious argument. The economy was great under Clinton, but a lot of that was not due to his actions, but more to his luck of being president at that time.
Marginally? TDS has broken you. API has a room with your name on it.
The economy was great under Clinton because of a Republican Controlled House under Newt Gingrich. They forced him to the negotiating table but we also hada more conflicts in Europe under Clinton. Trump has been the only President since Reagan under both Democratic and Republican administrations that we were not involved in any conflicts that he started. It’s called Peace through Strength something that has been lacking since the early eighties.
Marginally more peaceful? As in not on the brink of WWIII, that’s a bit more than marginally.
Now will Grandpa Bloodstains release the weapons Israel is due?
Weapons and ammo were already sent to project Ukraine. Project Taiwan is just going to have to wait, 3rd in line.
Yes, because the Biden crime family gets a kickback from Ukraine. The US needs to stop being Daddy Deep pockets.
Dare one ask where in line is Project America’s Southern Border?
Wonder how those ships will stand up to hypersonic missiles?
LGB, FJB, FKH
With so many ship there…… just how many pallets of cash are being delivered to Iran this go round
Just to be clear for all the pro-appeasment people out there, the current policy deployed by the Biden Administration is what has led us to the brink of WWIII. By showing weakness to people who do not respect weakness they will take the actions we’ve seen starting with the October 7th massacre in Israel that was funded by the leftist Biden Administration policy.
To recap
The Biden Administration released BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of dollars to the terrorist state of Iran.
Shortly after having received BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of dollars the terrorist state of Iran’s proxy terrorist militia in Gaza attacked innocent women, children, and elderly raping, murdering, butchering, and kidnapping more than 1,200 innocents.
Israel has taken unprecedented action to limit innocent life while trying to destroy the terrorist state of Iran’s proxy terrorist militia.
Another terrorist state of Iranian proxy terrorist militia murdered 12 Druze children in Israel.
As part of destroying the terrorist state of Iran’s proxy terrorist militia, Israel surgically dispatched a leader of Hamas.
And now the terrorist state of Iran and their proxy terrorist militias are going to retaliate? The actions of the terrorist state of Iran are not retaliatory, they are designed for only one reason and that is to wpfollow through with their stated goal of wiping Israel and all Jews from the face of the earth.
Thus is what appeasement and weak leftists policy brings to bear.
What limits, if any, should exist on the exercise of US military power in the Middle East and surrounding area? When, where, how, for how long. What would “victory” look like? Stuff like that. All comments encouraged. Please be specific. Bonus points: Who should make those decisions?
Good questions. US servicemen were injured in Iraq, although we were asked to leave years ago. What are they doing there? Same with Syria, we never declared war on Syria, just decided Assad was bad and destroyed that country trying to kill him. We still illegally occupy the resource rich region of their country. Libya remains destroyed. We are unable to suppress the Houthis from interdicting the Red Sea ocean commerce. Our military and state department spend trillions of printed dollars interfering everywhere overseas and are completely incompetent in accomplishing anything of value to anyone. Israel was making massive headway in being accepted as a neighbor, and all that progress is gone. Constant wars enrich a very few, peace and stability benefits everyone. Its time to bring our military home to secure our borders.
My general understanding that the US military is in Syria because the big, bad Rooskies are there. Not much other rationale is offered.
“Victory?” Havent seen or expected that since WW2
The evacuation and following seizure of Saigon set the standard for expectations.
Thanks for the responses. I had hoped that more that proclaim that the US needs to stand up to bullies around the world, wherever they may be, to advance democracy at any cost would have weighed in. Maybe as the potential for US military action increases, the passion decreases. (I hope so…) For me that is certainly the case, when we are led by one senile and the other a joke. Thus, I must ask another question: Who is controlling the Pentagon on all of this?
I sure wish we would demand a better crop of national leaders. A number of previous Presidents had seen actual war but that ended in 1993. Those since are difficult to take seriously.
3 1/2 years Biden has the entire world on it’s knees. Like a staggering imbecile. And his puppet master Obama on his 3 rd term. Anyone noticed how Obama’s face looks snake like lately??? Very creepy..
I had similar thoughts after seeing recent pics of the “King of Change” he promised us but my description was more devilish but snake is on the same page under devil.
Maybe Team Obama/Harris needs a war to keep Harris off the campaign trail, away from debates with President Trump?
Yesterday the government in Bangladesh was overthrown by another US sponsored color revolution. It is descending into chaos, arson, murder and rape of minority Hindu women. Our previous illustrious State Department rep Nuland visited the country in March. We were pressuring Bangladesh to align against Russia and “promoting democracy”. A desperately poor country which was barely surviving by trading with everyone. This also causes issues for India, which refuses vassalge to the US and the ensuing chaos this brings. We also wanted to open a military base, which was denied. For this desire to concentrate on their own problems and remain a peaceful country, they are paying the price. Our State Department behave like international arsonists.
The very escalation of Armed Forces in the Med is only leaving our back door open in the South China Sea. Eventually China will take advantage and make their move on Taiwan. That is when all hell will break loose.
Did I miss something? When did Congress authorize war against Yemen, Lebanon & Iran?
Is biden moving more stuff there to hand over to Iran??
