Video: Could Dunleavy become Interior Secretary?

36

Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s name is being tossed around as a possible candidate for secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior under the incoming Trump Administration. That’s been known for months, although he has not indicated he is seriously interested in leaving the Governor’s Office. But a new name has also arisen — Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota.

Both governors have been strong supporters of Trump. Burgum is leaving office this year after serving as North Dakota governor since 2016. Dunleavy is midway through his second term. If he goes into the Administration, Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom becomes governor and Commissioner of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Maj. Gen. Torrence Saxe would become lieutenant governor.

President Donald Trump has been close to Dunleavy for years. He taped a video message for Dunleavy earlier this year, in which he promised to help Alaska return to its standing as an energy powerhouse, and he thanked Dunleavy for his support and said they would be working together to also strengthen national defense, with the growing threat of China in the Western Hemisphere.

But while there will be a turnover in Washington, D.C., many will be vying for Trump Administration posts after his historic, nearly landslide win on Nov 5.

One thing is almost certain: Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland and her anti-Alaska, eco-minions will be retired from that job by Jan. 20, Inauguration Day.

  1. Deb Haaland cant disappear soon enough for Alaska.
Can we convince her to take her cheerleader Lisa Murkowski with her back to New Mexico where the oil business has been thriving? The sky is always very “Blue” in NM so Lisa will fit like a glove there.

As a bonus we will toss in Lisa’s salmon sister Mary Peltola (if the folks in NM can stand that much fish)

    • Nancy Dahlstrom certainly wouldn’t be my pick for governor either. The woman had to be shamed big time to drop out of the congressional race, and even then, she left reluctantly. Maybe Lisa Murkowski will have had enough of Trump and getting no committee chairs in the Senate and come back to Alaska and run for governor? History has a way of repeating itself.

    • Ginny, take them cucumber slices off of your eye lids, there’s work to do! Dunleavy would do good for Alaska!

Get the picks and shovels out and fire up the earthmovers! The time is now to drill ‘n’ blast–there’s gold to be had! At the Sundown Saloon the pretty girls will be as thick as churchgoers and blowflies, and there will be plenty of cheap whiskey for the gentleman who thirst for the good life!

      • Edit: “…cheap whiskey for the gentlemen who thirst for the good life!”

    • Dunleavy had the power to remove ranked choice voting, but did not. Dahlstrom works under Dunleavy and she is failing miserably at her job in running organized and secure elections. Why isn’t Dunleavy addressing her incompetency?

  2. I hope NOT! The dumb idiot has done enough damage to the state of ALASKA. Start writing to the Republican Senators in the Senate and tell the truth. Why undergo damage to the rest of the United States with such an idiot as Dunleavy. He is worse than Walker and twice the criminal.

  3. “Don’t worry, wonderful & beautiful Alaska, there will be NO POLITICS in the Pebble Mine Review Process. I will do what is right for Alaska and our great Country!!!” the president tweeted. on September 16,2020.
Nov. 25 2020 In a major reversal, the Trump administration has denied a permit for the massive Pebble Mine project in Alaska. The Army Corps of Engineers said it was “contrary to the public interest.”
Dunleavy said nothing. Same when Trump tariffs affected Alaska’s foreign trade and crashed salmon prices. Dunleavy said nothing. Dunleavy proved his loyalty to Trump over Alaska. So maybe he will get a job. My only question would be would the state continue its lawsuit against the feds over Pebble Mine? I was thinking getting 700 billion for a mine no one wants to invest in and protecting the BB water shed would be a huge win for Dunleavy.

  4. He will be uniquely positioned to throw open the doors to Alaska being open for business for resource development and much more. This would be great for the country and great for Alaska. Not sure how his LT will do.. not endorsing Nick after dropping out was not a good look. More people than one may think, will remember that..

  5. Dunleavy would be just as terrible in the Cabinet as he was in Juneau. Spineless and ineffective.

President Trump can easily find a better person for Sec of Interior.

  6. We need a secretary of the interior with a spine which is something Dunleavy doesn’t have, hopefully Trump will put a fighter in that position.

  7. I know Trump likes Dunleavy but he’s been nothing but an empty suit not showing any leadership in Alaska since the recall petition. It’s not a lot of fun being governor of Alaska when the pipeline and state coffers are a little more empty each year. I think he would leap at the chance to jump ship but honestly I think Doug Burgum would be a better choice as a leader.

  8. Dunleavy would be the second Alaska governor to be named Sec of the Interior. Wally Hickel was appointed by Richard Nixon in 1969, and then fired in November of 1970.

  9. Dunleavy has been in the family area during the convention and also was invited to the rally in New York. Something is afoot. Let’s just wait and see.

  10. Economic Hit Men and Jackals… Follow the money or lack there of… The interest on the debt is estimated to be closer to 12 trillion than 1.2… If certain players start making trips to Beijing… China owns quiet a bit of land in the Lower 48 already… ^^^

  11. President Elect Trump stated he will build a natural gas line in Alaska that investors have already said does not make economic sense. Trump is also proposing increased tariffs on Steel imports. One does not need to wonder why Trump led companies have gone bankrupt 6 times.

  12. The governor can best serve himself and the state by staying as governor. A great advocate for Alaskan interests. As Secretary of Interior he becomes mired in legal conflicts and becomes a target of the press. As governor he has the ears of the President. Appearances in the media with rapid fire questions is not his strong point. Please stay as governor.

  13. Putting Dunleavy anywhere is like moving a paperweight. Most of the time he is missing in action only to show up and say a few things that people would like to hear only to disappear again. He has earned his nickname of ‘Do nothing Dunleavy’.

  14. Dave w/X22 Reports commented about all of Trump’s appointments. If an appointee turns out to be a neocon or just is not working up to Trump’s level of expectation, Trump can fire him. It would be something if Trump brought Dunleavy into his group and then Dunleavy got fired. Then, Dunleavy would not be governor anymore, nor would he be working for Trump. Just a thought.
