The Valdez School Board made a sudden calendar change this week in response to a possible Covid-19 case. Instead of schools opening on Aug. 18, the school year will begin Aug. 24.

The decision was made Aug. 16, at a special meeting of the school board, with no other information was provided to the public.

  1. Great. School’s down here opened on time and then two weeks later had to close because hundreds of students were sick and dozens of staff members we’re also sick. It doesn’t make much sense to meet a deadline. It’s like one step forward and two steps back risking people’s lives. That’s just stupid and anybody who thinks different we can only hope that you haven’t had the shot yet and don’t intend on getting one.

      • Where are you getting that from? What I said exactly is we can only hope that if you haven’t had the shot yet and don’t intend to get one. We want you to be happy. Not feel threatened or as an outsider. Don’t get the shot it’s okay. Stop being angry all the time.

        • That’s exactly what your last sentence implied. You’re worried only about your own well-being and, that’s obvious from your posts. You could give two sh-ts about anyone but yourself. Take all the shots you want, Forkner because the next one won’t work either. While others take a vested interest in staying healthy via working out and eating well, you try to guilt and belittle people by casting aspersions if they don’t take the CDC needle. You’re a chunker, Greg. I’ve seen the photo. And, if we’re so afraid as to not post our full names as you’ve claimed, go ahead and post your address and profile image. I’ll wait.

  2. Here in Juneau we opened on time with full attendance. We have had cases, but no illnesses. I believe we have 1 person in the hospital but again, and this is the same story over and over, no mention of underlying conditions. I don’t have a shot yet (I’m waiting for all disadvantaged minorities to get theirs first, very noble of me). Not sick, never have been, won’t get sick.

    • Quite a switch here Jimbo from your earlier talk about this is nothing but a bad cold-And now you are talking about getting it as the noble part of you is waiting for others to get theirs.
If you think the folks on here will believe your BS, you could be right as there are a bunch of low-watt bulbs regularly on here. Heheh!
I also noticed you didn’t mention the two folks who recently died in hospital in Juneau-no illnesses, of course (only deaths).

    • That’s pretty awesome of you Jim giving your place in line to disadvantage minorities. The thing is most of them have had the shot. I know most of the natives in the bush got theirs last winter.

    • Jimbo, Juneau just reported another death @ Bartlett (man in his 50s). I’m sure he wasn’t sick at all, right???
You do keep em coming on here as we need the occasional fool to report in.

  3. Still don’t understand your choice of prepositions. People dying “from” Covid, or ” with” Covid. There’s a big difference, although all vases seem to be placed into the former category.
