Strange bedfellows: Chuck Kopp endorsed by hard-leftist Rep. Zack Fields for House seat

Former House member Chuck Kopp, who was bounced from office in 2020, may be a registered Republican. But he has the endorsement of the hardest of the hard left in the Alaska House — Rep. Zack Fields, former communications director for the Alaska Democratic Party.

Kopp is running against incumbent Republican Rep. Craig Johnson, who serves as Rules Committee chairman in the House Republican-led majority.

In a letter from Fields to voters of District 10, Fields promised that Anchorage Police Department would be fully staffed if Kopp was in the Legislature.

Kopp was in law enforcement on the Kenai Peninsula, but left under shady circumstances after a sexual harassment charge was leveled against him. He was forced out of the Palin Administration, as well.

Fields has fancied himself a protector of women against sexual harassment. But politics makes strange bedfellows.

Both Fields and Kopp have pushed for defined benefits packages, even though the discontinued package for state workers is still $8 billion in the hole.

Fields is to Democrats what David Eastman is to Republicans — cut from the same cloth, which is hard-liner populist. Kopp has been running a political strategy group with Cherie Curry since he lost to Rep. Tom McKay.

The endorsement by Fields is not exactly a ringing endorsement for a Republican, but Fields and renegade Republican Sen. Cathy Giessel have paired up to take out conservatives; this is another one of those seat they wish to see controlled by the AFL-CIO, which sent the Field letter out the “Putting Alaskans First” letterhead that belongs to the union’s political arm.

In 2021, Fields wrote to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, demanding that Facebook limit the reach of Must Read Alaska due to this publication’s open-mindedness about the Covid pandemic origins, treatments, and public policies.

He also accused fellow lawmakers who objected to Covid vaccine mandates of trying to kill people. He pushed Covid misinformation throughout the fear pandemic of 2020 and 201.

  1. If the definition of hard-liner populist on the conservative end of the scale means having no tolerance for anything less than the freedom our Constitution originally intended, then color me guilty, guilty, guilty!

    • Indian leg wrestling involves different tactics. Fields had enjoyed this sport in the Capitol with a particular labor boss’s wife (now a Republican Senate candidate). It’s possible that Fields may have also had a leg wresting tryst with a former, female Republican senate president.
      .
And now Republican Kopp? A man? Obviously, Fields is a Democrat plant used in counter spycraft, and as a male honeytrap for Republican lawmakers. But this Kopp thing is weird. Is Fields a closet homosexual looking to groom Kopp? Or is Kopp inclined towards a different type of sexual persuasion? One would have to assume that Fields is very pro-LGBTQ. Does he know something about Kopp’s real proclivities that the rest of us don’t know?
Stay tuned to MRAK as more disclosure comes to you during this election cycle.

  2. Not strange at all. kopp was all kissyface with the incompetent Suzanne La France during that election. Shows exactly what he really is, regardless of his nominal party registration.

  3. Mr. Kopp has nothing to do with conservatism anymore; like Ms. Giessel, he is just a tool for the unions and Leftists.

His former association with law enforcement is a costume. It is something to look at but little more than fiction.

  4. fields and kopp actually support law
enforcement by backing a return to defined benefits

go ahead, can’t wait for all the “back the blue” republicans to disagree

    waiting…

    • I once ran for public office and was invited to an interview with the organization representing the police. I am a former prosecutor. I know a bit about law enforcement. During course of the interview NOT A SINGLE QUESTION had ANYTHING to do with public safety. All were questions about labor/management relations. I suspect that you and I, and perhaps others, might have quite different ideas as to what “support for law enforcement” means.

  5. It is like viewing a pack of barn yard dogs sniffing each other. They use the R (are you listening Cathy Giessel?) to get elected and then expediency kicks in to land them wherever they perceive that power to be. Kopp is malleable to the kooky ideas that Fields has. Whatever it takes. We have one of our own on the Peninsula in the form of Jesse Bjorkman. Elected as an R and caucuses as a democrat. All set to further the agenda of the likes of Forest Dunbar and Giessel. That is the muddle of a legislature we now have.

  6. Police departments are completely run by bureaucrats. Terrible times we live in. Need a re set. Only way I can see a re set working is bloody or a miracle. Or the destruction of the main stream media. They are a huge part of the misinformation freeway.

  7. TRS and PERS are $8 billion dollars in the hole thanks to the AG, now Senator Dan Sullivan. He settled the lawsuit against Mercer for fraudulent advice for pennies on the dollar. You know the good old boy network of the wealthy entitled individuals protection other wealthy entitled individuals!

    • I may be wrong, but as I recall Mercer would have likely declared bankruptcy if forced to pay anywhere near the actual liability, possibly leaving the State with nothing.

  8. Just received the latest copy of the “Judicial Watch Covid Project”. Interesting reading concerning the collusion and miss information forced on to the population of the world by a few centrally controlled elites. Everyone should check out the article before we elect anyone back that was in a public position during the “Covid Crisis”. Dr. Fauci and accomplice’s should be held accountable for covering up the lies, and money they were making on the side from Big Pharma for tests that you and I paid for with our tax dollars. The above report may give people that had problems with the shot now and in the future, some information for any medical suites that they may have. This whole issue is definitely disgraceful for all involved.

  9. I not sure why, but when women have the man vs bear conversation, I picture Zach Fields as the poster boy for men they are talking about.

  10. Folks, it’s not strange in the least bit.

The politics is merely window dressing.

What you’re seeing is the dynamics of two pieces of lint caught in the vent.

They have three attributes in common; they are both political beasts, they are both ethically challenged, and they both harbor political ambitions.

Essentially, nothing to see here, move along

  11. I thought it was up to municipalities to determine police staffing not the state? If that is true then the promise of Fields and Kopp are not quite accurate.

    • Police staffing what’s that ?? Mat su is 17 troopers short and god knows how many city police are short. No one with a brain wants a job where your local bureaucrats throw you under the bus when things don’t go to plan. You couldn’t give me a police job. If you are a cop I would re think your career choice.
