By KENAI BOROUGH MAYOR CHARLIE PIERCE

Open Letter to Elected State Senators, State House and Lt. Governor:

People are losing trust in the election processes and elected officials. Doing nothing in Juneau is getting old, and people are fed up. Have we forgotten that we who are elected serve at the pleasure of the people who elected us? Why is it that we run for office, promise the world, get elected, then don’t talk to the people who got us elected again until we run for office again?

This cycle seeds distrust in the people we serve, and at the end of the day, these people are our bosses. We report to them, work for them, are accountable to them, and should make ourselves available to them. Raising money, getting elected, blaming the system on no results, saying you need more time to accomplish things, raising more money to get elected again for the things your first promised years ago — this way of life has got to go!

I am not perfect by any means, but I answered to no special interest groups and did precisely what I said I was going to do, which balanced the budget and did not raise taxes. I have been doing this every year, day in and day out, with a great team at the Kenai Peninsula Borough. I also keep a literal open-meeting policy. Anyone from the public is welcome to come into my office and meet with me. If I am in my office at the time, I will make time for you right then and there. If I am busy, then we will schedule a meeting for later. You don’t have to be a president of a company or a lobbyist to get an appointment with me. I’m a small-town guy raised by a mom who showed me the value of people is not in their titles or how much money they make, but in who they are as a person.

What I hear from people all over the borough is: Does my vote count, why aren’t there stricter voter ID laws, how much voter fraud happens each year, why are there not forensic audits on each election cycle? These are questions from good, hard-working Alaskans, and I guess that it rings true all over the state. The average person that I meet does not trust the system. Again, what are we doing to win back this trust?

Making political statements about trying to fix it or trying to look into it is not enough anymore. We need action and results at the state level. Anyone who tells you election fraud does not happen is lying. A former elected official allegedly committed election fraud to get reelected. This potential election fraud just happened a couple of years ago, and what if there was more, but she was the only one that got caught.

This is why a forensic audit would at least help restore trust because you don’t have to look back but a couple of years, and you will find this huge election fraud case happening right here in Alaska.

There are more all around the USA: https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud/#choose-a-state.

In one case in Alaska, a person pleaded guilty to a felony count of forging signatures on an initiative petition to re-establish the coastal zone management plan. One of the initiative’s sponsors noticed inconsistencies with the signatures that the person had collected and reported the problem to the authorities. The forger was sentenced to serve two years in jail followed by three years’ probation. This case was caught, but I suspect many cases of fraud in Alaska elections are not.

Bottom line is that election fraud occurs, and we need to do a better job as a state to prevent it.

So, what can you do as elected officials? You may not like what I have to say: It’s called accountability. I encourage you to be grateful to the people who helped you get elected, know that you are accountable to the people that elected you, and make sure you show them that you know that.

Second, give the lieutenant governor the tools he needs to ensure election fraud does not happen again in our back yards. We are losing the trust of the people, and doing nothing in Juneau is getting old fast.

Charlie Pierce was elected mayor of the Kenai Peninsula Borough in 2017, and was reelected in 2020.

    • So my question is why did we buy dominion voting machines? If we want to restore trust in the system it seems to me the last thing in the world we would do is purchase a voting system that’s in question.

        • Baaaaaa humbug. The opposite is true. The Constitution is true. God is acknowledged by conservatives. Puny mankind can not escape this important fact that He exists. Because democrats try to put God down in their own minds they elevate themselves to gods in vain. To buttress that they go with authoritarianism bigtime and are big into the mandate fascism scene. Repubs want to front you your liberty. But you aren’t interested.

          • Also Evan I know people who have invested in all 50 states out of patriotism. Guess where they got the screwed. They offered friendship and support to the people of Alaska. For their kind support they got a life time rip off which is the God of the Democrats. The word is getting out on the rip off nature of Alaska. It is unappealing.

      • With a population the size of Alaska’s, there is NO legitimate reason to use voting machines AT ALL!
They were designed and put in place specifically for the purpose of enabling voting fraud.
        – M.John

        • So, if we don’t use voting machine, what then? Pieces of paper, stuffed at random into boxes, electronic votes coming from private emails, purple thumb syndrome?

    • The LT. Governor does not think that there is a problem with Elections. Obviously he is a part of the problem. Get rid of Mail In Voting and return to honest Elections where you do your Patriotic Duty and VOTE in Person! I spent over 20 years serving my country and I will not give up my Liberty and Freedom’s that these people are trying to take! God Bless America!!!

  1. There is more than elections that I have lost faith in.

    Government representation.
    Tax representation.
    Customer service.
    “Journalists”
    Visual entertainment (social engineering)
    Musical entertainment (more social engineering)
    Sports (overpaid, now pushing politics)
    Social justice movements.
    Medical establishment.
    Amazon.com
    Social media networks.

    Just to name a few.

      • I don’t. I am happy for Common Peasant. It’s liberating to “Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice, and let the oppressed go free”. I have been sober off of Facebook for 5 years now. I barely remember a time that I had to pick up my phone every 5 minutes to look at trash responses to things I had to say. Going on 3 years now watching “CordCutter”, that’s the name of my TiVo box since I got rid of cable TV. Recently gave the boot to Amazon. That was a hard one but I just ripped off the bandaid and just did it. I’m finding I can find everything I could find from Amazon somewhere else. Usually direct from the manufacturer, or other dealers besides Amazon. With all the deals Amazon purported to offer, I am finding things cheaper in other places as those places start to offer free or reduced shipping. I’m watching my elected officials very closely and I am voting on EVERYTHING! Gave up on all sports when the kneeling for the Anthem started, and really it was going away for me before that. Except for my dentist and maybe an eye appointment every couple years I really haven’t seen a doctor in about 20. I can buy my own ivermectin. I do not need to suffer from an inadvertent reaction to the vaccine. And I will not comply with a bunch of whiney babies on the Anchorage assembly. I am watching them the closest. I know my district will have new reps when their terms are up next if I can have anything to do about it. And I can. So feel sorry for Common Peasant? Not me, now I got team mates fed up enough to do something about the insanity going around. The key is to not be hypnotized by fear.

        • hear, hear, I did the same CordCutter got rid of amazon, use roku, OAN for news and watch free tv, movies. Never had a facebook or twitter account haven’t watched sports will not take the vaccine got my ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine from riverpharmacy dot ca no prescription needed

        • Reminds me of the story, many years ago, of the guy who said he cut out television, cut out drinking, cut out sports, cut out talking with his buddies, and now he’s cutting out paper dolls.

    • You forgot a huge subject, the education system where Brian who commented here was brainwashed to think all of this is normal.

    • Well said Common Peasant, it’s an accumulation of all the above (and more) which has produced the horribly negative society that we experience everyday (including in every comment section).

  2. This probably explains why Meg Zaletel gained 1200 votes during her recall defense. The silent majority actually runs the show.

  3. – In-person, on Election Day, ID-checked voting with limited accommodations for temporary out-of-state citizens
    – Eliminate Dominion voting machines
    – Repeal ranked-choice voting
    – Eliminate “ballot harvesting”

    • What the heck, why not just let Russ W. pick the guy (or gal) he wants. That’s the way they do it in Russia, Belarus, Venezuela, China, and all those other countries that are so successful.

  4. What happens when the leaders we elected are suffering from Narcissism? They sincerely believe they are a good and honest leader that their community couldn’t survive without their presence. Hahahaha.
Narcissism traits appear are dominant features among Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials. The narcissist leader will use any lie and deceit necessay however to the narcissist its not a lie or a deceit, its the truth cause narcissists don’t lie and arent deceived in their own eyes.

    • We should had seen this coming when people started voting for the lesser evil. History shows we allowed narcissism creep into the political arena through our complacency and passive acceptance supporting abusers. Our political parties should had refused supporting such abusers. As we all know an abuser can’t even manage their own household, what makes political parties think the lesser evil can manage well an entire community?

  5. THANK YOU Mayor Pierce! We need more men and women in government who know who their employers are, and will stand up for them against the tyrannies of today.

  6. Charlie had to go back nine years for evidence of fraud and his example wasn’t even for an election. Yet “many people” tell him they don’t trust the process. Wonder if Trump’s Big Lie affected their perception. So Charlie’ s reaction is to call for an audit of the process because of some conned trump ideologues and a nine year old fraud charge.

Nine years ago I got double charged for a quart of yogurt at checkout. I did not try to shut down Safeway.

  7. Petitions.net go to forensic audit and sign the petition! This 3 tier government has made the 2020 election crime possible. The judicial branch declared no signatures required on mail in ballots. They don’t have jurisdiction over that and therefore overstepped their authority
The executive branch acted like spineless puppets and caved because they are cowards
The legislative branch who has the authority to change the election process, unfortunately is so dysfunctional that showing up and doing their job is reach . Expecting them to challenge the judicial branch and motivate the executive branch is way beyond these government officials to do!
Let’s not forget that Kevin Meyer purchased the dominion machines after being instructed and was flat out warned not to.
Sign the petition and give the overpaid incompetent body of governing officials the clear statement that we do not trust them and a forensic audit is the only mandate that the people will accept!!!!!
    Go to
    Petitions.net
Type in forensic audit in the menu sign it
    Thank you

  8. Mayor Pierce, when are you running for Governor? I have been saying this for months! We have a bunch of do nothings in the Alaska Legislature and they are puppets of corruption. We now have this corrupt election system called “Ranked Steal It Voting” in place to help these fools stay in office. The people of this State want responsible representative government that is looking out for the citizens. There is a communist insurrection on full display in the Anchorage Assembly and across America. Virginia has broken free of corruption because the people came forward and drew a line in the sand. They knew that CRT and Woke education is a danger to their children and stepped up to the plate. Alaska can do the same, demand better of your elected officials or remove them! Demand to know what the School Boards are teaching your kids and inspect the curriculum. If they ignore the parents, replace them on the board with people that love America and are concerned for your children’s future! Alaska, it is time to make a sacrifice of time and talents to restore our State’s future and secure it for future generations. If not now, when? We may not have another chance!

  9. Charlie Pierce …
Based on the actions of Murkowski, Sullivan and Young, how can a lifelong Alaskan – Conservative Republican continue to believe these three represent the values and tenants (ie – the 64 points outlined in the “Platform” as posted on the website) of the Republican Party?
Day by day, week by week, month by month, year after year … these three continue to enrich themselves at the expense of others.
Indeed, I’ve lost faith in these three and have no plans to ever vote for them again.

  10. What Charlie Pierce says and does is what needs to happen. We need a thorough political house cleaning to restore our faith in our voteing system and to get our fiscal budget in order. – to the point where government is not spending more than it is taking in. Charlie Pierce’s five-year record as Kenai Borough mayor speaks for itself.. It takes good people to make good decisions and he has done exactly that..

  11. Charlie Pierce is protecring the investments in his area by having integrity. I wish more men in Alaska were raised as he was.

  12. Well stated Mayor Pierce! The hallmark of his time as Mayor of the Kenai Peninsula has been doing what he promised to do and being accountable to the public he serves. Mayor Pierce routinely makes himself available to citizens and groups from all viewpoints to discuss their issues with him.

Mayor Pierce is absolutely correct when he urges that we carefully examine our election process. There is a palpable malaise within the public about the sanctity of election integrity. Unfortunately, our Lieutenant Governor has a conspicuous lack of curiosity in dealing with restoring public confidence in our elections. Apparently, he believes that fraud in elections always happens. Of course, our dysfunctional legislature which has the last word on the election process, allowed (purposely?) Senator Shower’s election reform bill (SB39) to be hopelessly mired in committee. The state is in the business to hold fair and expeditious elections. Period. They are not in the business to make elections easier, more convenient, or to encourage public participation. That takes care of itself when there is an issue the public is passionate about.

So, let’s heed Mayor Pierce’s request that we do what it takes to restore confidence in our elections. We can start by releasing Administrator Tshibaka’s white paper assessment of the election process written in July 2021. In unredacted form!

This governor and Lt governor have spoken defiantly by ignoring the obvious election fraud
Join me and take this offensively. I’m personally offended and will use every opportunity to speak to this administration from that perspective, how about you?
