Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The City and Borough of Juneau is reacting to news that some voters are receiving excess ballots in the mail.
Many Juneau voters have started receiving their official ballot for the City and Borough of Juneau’s Oct. 6 by-mail Municipal Election.
But, according to city officials, there’s a chance you may have also received a ballot package addressed to a former resident at your mailing address or someone who’s not presently a resident of your household.
If this happens, mark it as “Return to Sender – not at this address” and then return it to the post office, put it back in your mailbox for the mail carrier to pick up, or bring it to a Juneau Vote Center at City Hall or the Valley Library starting Sept. 21.
News of the North discovered on Friday at least two households had received excess ballots. One case saw a two-person household receive three, while a one-person household received five.

Meanwhile, next week the Juneau Assembly will consider removing the requirement that by-mail ballots must be witnessed.
“Mark return to sender” — that only works if the voter is not a Democrat.

In today’s political climate, no one would even be tempted to send in two ballots. Everyone will mark the envelope return to sender.
Please. Seriously, if two ballots showed up at my house I would be sorely tempted to vote twice. Especially this year. Show me someone who would not be.

It’s not what the prosecutor knows but rather what he can prove. How will he go about proving someone forged the signature of a previous tenant of their apartment?
The USA has, sadly , descended into Banana Republic status. I fear for the future.
Why would anyone send it back after marking it return to sender, to give them another chance to fraudulently vote?

With no growth industry except government, productive Juneau residents may realize they won’t be able to afford what’s coming after corruption is complete.

With nothing left to lose since government’s about to take it all, residents could secede from the borough, like what’s happening with Eaglexit and/or leave, abandon their sinking ship like Anchorage residents did in the 1980’s.

How do we end mail-in voting in Anchorage? Is anyone working on that?
Here in our Anchorage neighborhood at least several of us received double ballots during the last election – addressed to current and past residents. Having integrity, we resisted the temptation and returned the extras and let the office of elections know. But there must have been others who had no such compunction, and I’m sure it happened in other neighborhoods. It’s obviously one problem among many with mail-in-voting. But I doubt we can rid of mail-in voting as long as Berkowitz and his rotten Assembly sit in power.
As a former election worker in Anchorage, this is a gross violation of election protocol. It’s like trying to do a controlled experiment with no control.
I live in Juneau and only received actual ballots for persons at our address but at my workplace we received ballots for people (who never lived there by the way) who have not lived in Juneau for 3 years. The lack of verification, ease of fraud and election manipulation potential is unsettling at best and will disenfranchise voters and discourage candidates. The process CBJ has established for reviewing ballots is very wish washy and very much at the discretion of the person reviewing. Also your name is attached to the ballot which means that the city now can understand who is voting how. Do you think this information is safe or will ever be used? The solemnity of voting is now removed in Juneau and the process is a joke.
