Two military veterans, Rep. Laddie Shaw and Anchorage Assemblywoman Jamie Allard, are holding a joint campaign fundraiser on Thursday, July 28 in Anchorage.
Shaw, from South Anchorage, and Allard, from Eagle River, have a lot in common, both being conservatives and both having served in the U.S. military.
Shaw is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL who has served in the Alaska House of Representatives since 2018. His new District is called District 9, and encompasses South Anchorage, Girdwood, and Whittier.
Allard, and Allard served in the U.S. Army and has been serving on the Anchorage Assembly for two years. She now running for a new Alaska House District 23 to represent Eagle River.
The fundraiser is at the Main Event, 1041 East 76th Ave., just off of Old Seward Highway, starting at 6 pm.
Rep. Shaw is donating several bottles of “Purple Heart Wine” for the event, and the proceeds from the auction of those bottles will be used to support the Gold Star Peak nonprofit, which is an organization that brings veterans and survivors together in nature to remember and honor the fallen and bring healing to all. Gold Star families are those who have lost service members in time of war.
Purple Heart is a red blend wine and auctioneer Steve Strait will do the honors of finding new homes for the wine.
Gold Star Peak is in Allard’s district, by Eklutna. Rep. Shaw helped pass legislation to get the mountain named Gold Star Peak.
