Joining a crowded field of Republican-leaning candidates for Alaska’s next Governor, former Mayor Dave Bronson announced today his candidacy for the office. In a press release to MRAK, his campaign officially launched this morning in Fairbanks, and announced rollout events in Fairbanks, Mat-Su, Anchorage, and Soldotna. There are now 11 Republican candidates running for Governor of Alaska.
Bronson’s press release touted his status as an Air Force veteran and “proven conservative leader” who pledges to focus on “economic growth, infrastructure, affordable housing, stronger schools, and protecting the Permanent Fund Dividend.”
Planned events are as follows:
Anchorage Press Conference
- When: Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
- Where: Sullivan Arena Gold Room, 1600 Gambell St., Anchorage, AK
Soldotna (Kenai) Meet & Greet
- When: Friday, October 3, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
- Where: Kenai River Lodge, 393 Riverside Dr., Soldotna, AK
In the release, Bronson stated, “Alaska has incredible promise, but too many families are being priced out of the American Dream, too many young people are leaving, and too many opportunities are slipping away,” said Bronson. “I’m running for Governor to fight for Alaska’s future, unlock our resources, and make sure this is a place where our kids and grandkids can thrive.”

I honestly did not pay attention to his actions as Mayor.
I do observe that the homeless problem showed no signs of abatement, whatever.
And the burdens to the Taxpaying Anchorage property owner, and renters alike have not been represented in the least.
He had an assembly that was veto proof against him he would have done much more. They shot down every thing he tried including homeless abatement plans . He will be a better governor than any of the dems running.
One would hope that before one drops a sideways comment like this, one would look back and remember that he DID do something very smart about the homeless and the tax burden on the property owners in Anchorage, he was neutered by the Assembly who 100% of the time worked against his agenda.
You can thank your crappy Assembly for all that! He couldn’t get anything done with those clowns vetoing everything!
“I do observe that the homeless problem showed no signs of abatement, whatever.”
Not for lack of trying on his part. The Assembly blocked his attempts to improve matters.
He actually had a great idea pre-approved to get the homeless off the streets and in a way. Unfortunately, the Assembly pulled the rug out from under that project.
I do, however, would like to know why the airport bathrooms are so dated. I’ve been in many airports this year, and our airport’s rooms are lacking in comparison to other airports: small stalls, old finish, some hooks missing, etc. As the director, he should have been kept abreast of needed maintenance projects.
A great idea? Since when is government responsible for the homeless problem? This is definitely not the role of government (in reality, the people who pay taxes) paying for someone else’s bad life choices and it certainly is not something any “conservative” politician should be standing behind.
Airports do not have an infinite amount of money for capital improvements, and priorities must happen. What is more important to the flyer? Runways, taxiways, and movement from garage to gate, or a dated bathroom? What maintenance should take priority? Bathrooms with broken coat hooks, or airfield lighting, pavement maintenance, and ensuring the elevators and escalators work?
.
Airports have a very small profit margin, and repairs must be prioritized.
.
Your criticism of Bronson may be factually accurate, but it is uninformed and misplaced.
the stevens airport? wth are you babbling about. whaddya want gold plated sinks?
good grief.
If you would have paid attention, you would have observed his piss-poor administration of his office. A mayor (or governor) is only as good as the people who he picks to support his agenda, and with this task, Bronson made a fool of himself.
People commonly blame his lack of success on his antagonism with the city Assembly, but they fail to acknowledge the proven disfunction in City Hall that he created.
I suspect a LOT of your comment is driven by ads from the 907 Initiative. Bronson had barely done five minutes as mayor before those attack ads showed up claiming he was incompetent.
Seriously?
A tough hill to climb in a state dominated by public sector unions. The price to pay is compromise. A cost indemnified by Satan himself. You won’t understand. I will support Dave. As long as he can assure me he’s not a closet Freemason. Yeah, I am the crazy one.
You don’t sound that crazy….
CROOK
?
He’s one I can go with. Most of the others? Not so much.
Truely a glutton for punishment. Being governor will be like his stint as mayor times 10. Im not sure why he thinks the legislature will be any easier to deal with than the Anchorage assembly. From the fring pan to the fire.
This. Exactly. And overwhelming the field to boot, which plays into the Leftists playbook.
Come on Bill Walker, run! He did a really good job during his first term when the global elite lowered oil prices in 2014 bc our adversary Russia became one of the top producers of oil in the world.
Yes, Waker was just superb. Tried to rescue his pedophile Lt. Governor from jail time. Unilaterally stole Alaskans statutory PFD in order to grow government. Tried desperately to sell Alaska out to the Chinese government, while bowing to his Chinese lords and masters. Ditched his make-believe Republican position while a candidate for governor. Gave his Democrat lawyer colleagues anything they wanted. And got his ass kicked by Alaskan voters in the 2028 election.
.
Yep, Walker was just fantastic. And why is he still in hiding?
“……..why is he still in hiding?……”
Who cares……..as long as he stays there?
Boom you said it girl;
How would you try and balance the budget during a time of really low oil prices? The global elite control the price of a barrel of oil everyday…in London…in New York…everywhere! And I think that China means well for the world. They’re not trying to build this satanic one world government.
In order to balance a budget, you need to first examine spending. Something politicians are reluctant to actually do. Cut expenditures, and suddenly, you have a balanced budget.
But… nope. Walker did what? Ignored the PFD formula and took what the public earned (yes, the PFD is earned) to fund his pet projects.
.
Stop buying luxuries before paying the bills, and balanced budgets show up.
Low oil prices but Alaska is still paying close to $4 a gallon for gas. I guess one can blame the state from shutting down the refineries and relying on Washington State to provide our gas and and exuberant prices. North Pole refinery closed down during Walker’s stint as governor coincidences I don’t think so it was a calculated to make us reliant on outside entities.
I should have started off by saying “fiscally conservative republican? How would you have balanced the budget?”
The fiscally conservative Republicans figured out how to do it under Knowles without stealing a penny of the PFD. I expect it is possible to do it again 20 years later. Cheers-
correction:
“2018” election
I guess you want us to speak Chinese..Can’t you understand he tried to sell Alaska to China, it wasn’t just the oil. I guess you don’t understand China didn’t just want the oil. They’re after ALL of Alaska, not just the oil. Oil was JUST the start.they want OUR land as well.
James,
If you want a fiscally conservative, and responsible state government, there are only two candidates that stand out in the field so far:
Bernadette Wilson
Dave Bronson
The others are either big spenders or in it for an ego ride. Focus on the two formentioned.
But I trust Bill Walker more. He was doing good. I’ll look into them two candidates, but we needed another revenue source, and China was a good investor and buyer of that LNG.

At this point it may be more significant to report on whos not running for governor.
When a website rejects comments criticizing its performance, said website is fearful it maybe found out to be true.
Just pass Larry, go to sites that don’t support conservatives
Why are you here if the site under performs.
Because it’s free?
Not sure how a run for governor matches up with a failure to win re-election as mayor. And it should be noted his re-election campaign was lack-luster. Hopefully – and this may be too much to expect – the Republicans will avoid a circular firing squad in the fall.
Bernadette and Bronson are both great candidates. Either would work for governor.
Bernie? No thanks. Bronson? My whole family will vote for Bronson.
As will ours.
He fought a losing battle against a Leftist Assembly!
The Municipality lost money because they wouldn’t work with him.
Anchorage deserves better and I feel he could have achieved much more, if the Enemies of Anchorage on the Assembly had not been in control.
I know for a fact that 11 people running for Governor almost assures a Democrat will win under the rules of RCV!
“…….Anchorage deserves better…….”
“Deservins got nothing to do with it.” – William Munny
A lot of the commenters have touched on Bronson’s problems with the Assembly, all of which takes us to the following question:
If Bronson was unable to figure out what to do with a veto-proof Assembly, Hell-bent on opposing every single thing he did or tried to do, what makes you think he can deal with the current democrat / RINO led mess the state legislature has become?
He could have rallied the general public against the Assembly. He didn’t. He could have supported conservative, or at least less crazy Assembly candidates. He didn’t. And he managed to trigger a very public legal battle with his designated Hit Lady Amy Demboski, when it was time to part ways. None of these fill me with hope for a successful governor.
Problem is, I like Bronson a lot. He is on the right side of all the issues I am interested in. But if you can’t figure out how to operate effectively in a hostile environment and take positive steps to flip that environment to your own political advantage, I think I am going to look elsewhere. Cheers –
Military people.
Politics is the opposite of the world they did well in.
The military world is quite political once you get into the O-6, O-7 range. Bronson never did rise to that level. Cheers –
A tradesman can only do as good of work as their tools allow. A craftsman cannot build a home in three years with nothing more than his bare hands.
And, Mayor Bronson had every tool at his disposal removed from him during his tenure. That includes staff that outright work against him for personal reasons.
I think he did good job thru scamdemic as a mayor. But my first choice is Edna DeVries, working to save Grand jury as a borough mayor from un-elected judiciary that is really corrupting the state.
Edna has been a great borough mayor but… I am no longer electing these elder persons who don’t have stamina to attack or operate the government and need to retire.
Sorry Edna- I’m voting for Bernie!
I want to say something that I have thought for years.
Military officers do not make the best conservatives politically, even though they are good conservatives personally.
They come from a world where you do what your told.
Orders come down from “the top” & are carried out quickly.
And everything is orderly as opposed to the chaos of civilian society.
Politics is almost the opposite of that …… getting everyone to agree & form a consensus.
I first noticed this w/ Mayor Wuerch here in ANC (Bronson seemed to lack political skills also)
I voted for Wuerch, but the first thing he did was sign big Muni union contracts; didn’t fight back at all.
It was like “here’s the papers, sign here sir” and he did.
Of course things could always be worse.
We could have elected a military officer named Forrest Dunbar.
Amy Demboski ……. make it an even dozen.
It will all happen again with a UNION UNI PARTY COALITION CAUCUS, overriding ANY CONSERVATIVE GOVERNOR. Made up of Democrats and RINOS. If Anchorage wants change, change your Assembly. If Alaskan’s want change, change our Union Uni party Legislature. Stop voting for lying RINOS like Students, Stedman, Geisel, Merrick, Yundt, Moore, Underwood, etc. Look what the RINO Uni party did to Trump his first term. There can be ZERO TOLERANCE for any Republican who votes with Democrats, especially in the early stages of drafting legislation.
11 or 25 Republicans does not matter in a RCV general election.
The August 2025 primary will send only the top 4 finishers to the general election ballot.
One of these four will be a Democrat.
In the worse case, the other 3 general election candidates will be Republicans. Therefore our wounded primary removes at least eight Republicans from the General Election Ballot.
“Republican leaning”???? What exactly does that mean? RINO?
This field is getting too crowded, which plays to the Democrats
Lets see if the Chuck Schumer democratic dark money from Duty and Honor will spread lies against any more Republicans.
Democrats Jack Smith caught spying on Dan Sullivan during Jan 6. Lets see how the Duty and Honor 😂 Super Pac spins this about Senator Sullivan.
Can’t believe they were spying on Dan Sullivan. Shows the state of our “intelligence” community.
Of 9 investigated, only 3 were going to vote against certifying and 1 of them changed her mind after the riot.
So “intelligence” guessed two right out of 6 “anti” votes.
AND they looked at Dan Sullivan, but not Ted Cruz?
Not too intelligent.
