Fairbanks police job listing goes viral as Anchorage officers lose hope under Mayor LaFrance and Chief Case

52

It was several days after a 16-year-old Anchorage resident was shot and killed before Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case made it clear that the large teen had approached an officer with a knife in her hand and refused to drop it after multiple commands. The incident took place last Tuesday.

In the meantime, the Anchorage mayor, a defund-the-police liberal, had apologized to the family for their daughter’s death, saying it should not have happened.

Mayor Suzanne LaFrance all but blamed police for the incident during Thursday’s press conference, even though police had been called to the scene after the young woman was reportedly threatening family members with a 7-inch bladed knife.

Four days ago, the Fairbanks Police Department posted a job listing targeting those who don’t feel supported by the command chain.

“Are you in a place that’s not the right fit? It could be time for a change. You deserve a department and community that have your back and support the men and women who perform real police work!” the job listing says on Facebook. “Many police officers face the problem of working in an environment that isn’t supportive to law enforcement, fulfilling, or the right fit for their lifestyle. Fairbanks Police is different!”

After listing the pay and benefits, the post says:

“You don’t have to work in an environment that leaves police hung out to dry or where you feel unappreciated and unfulfilled. Come to a place where you and your family can thrive, you can have financial stability, and you receive professional development that sets you up to do the real police work you want to do!”

Anchorage police officers say they feel betrayed by LaFrance and Chief Case, who would not call for people to suspend their snap judgments about what happened until an investigation is completed. LaFrance even implied she would not trust an investigation by the Internal Affairs team at the department and wanted her own investigation, in addition to the required state investigation from the Office of Special Prosecutions.

Police officers tell Must Read Alaska they do not trust Chief Case, who hung the officer who shot the teen out to dry before the facts were known, as he catered to the wishes of the mayor, who has consistently been a critic of law enforcement.

  1. Well maybe the cops will campaign against the mayor.
Remember police department some people want less cops so find out who they are and have a slow response policy so the crime is already been done.

  2. Votes for LaFrance 42,590– 53.54%
So those 42,590 folks that voted for lafrancie need to do this: “the next time you need a cop, call the mayor first, she can solve whatever problem you might have.
42,590 brain altered folks are running the show now. Good for them.
Best of luck to the FPD in their recruitment efforts, they pulled off a real coup….

    • Those 42590 need to never call the cops and thier taxes need to go up to support the new mayors taxes she is pushing.
Get ready for a sales tax so the city can waste more on the homeless.

      • Dont forget to mention the 12.5 million needed for heated bathrooms downtown for the homeless to hang out in and enjoy all the creature comforts the working stiffs get to pay for.

  3. Cops have no legal obligation to protect you or your family. Their only obligation is to themselves and the government. Don’t call the police if you want your family members to feel safe, take care of the situation yourself.

  4. This was to be expected once an event like this has taken place with a liberal mayor and assembly. The police are bad. They are the villains. There is no conversation about why this person was wielding the knife to her family members. Why is that? I assume it was them who called the police. Instead, it’s a victimization party. I do wish she had been tasered, but the investigation has not been completed. In the meantime, its a common playbook in liberal governed communities that never address the crux of the problem. And the police are always at fault, even though they were called.

  5. I wish the Mat-Su Borough would stand up a police department that can bleed APD of gunslinger cops. If this society goes crazy after the coming election and presidential inauguration, it will be pretty late to start thinking about an appropriate and effective response to a La Violencia style civil war.

  6. The rank and file also told Mayor Bronson not to allow Case to be Deputy Chief but he did. Now the great inclusive assembly fired the first woman, who is black, to put in a white man whose wife worked in Berkowitz administration. So much for diversity! Oh, if anyone thinks The mayor is making decisions, that is laughable!

  7. “the large teen had approached an officer with a knife in her hand and refused to drop it after multiple commands.”

Liberals live in a fantasy land where this situation could be resolved with a social worker talking sweetly to the large person who keeps coming toward you with a knife, even as you tell that person repeatedly that they are leaving you with no choice but to shoot…..

    • There’s always a choice it’s called a taser, it’s called a bean bag gun , rubber bullets , after all the person only had a knife

      • “………after all the person only had a knife………”
There are police standards that are common nation and even world wide. The 21′ Rule for edged weapons is one. There is little chance that will be changing in short order, even for Anchorage local government under state police standards. The latest published version of this story has it all occurring inside a rather crowded apartment, which places just about any visual distance at or around 21′.
My bet is that this shooting, like all the previous APD shootings of the past year and more, will pass review.
I’ll also opine that the cameras that police are now all forced to wear after years of false allegations by the criminal class will continue to absolve police officers.
And all this will continue to corner the criminal class and infuriate their apologists. It will take a while, but the criminal class might eventually learn that they’d best take their chances with the liberal judges and society’s refusal to triple the number of prison beds rather than the armed and dangerous police. In the meantime, the police will continue to shoot ’em up like silhouette targets at the range, because it’s currently a target-rich environment out there.

      • Gordon, Only a knife? Like the weapon of choice for Zealots in ancient Palestine and now apparently in London England. Didn’t Julius Caesar succumb to knife wounds? Only a knife can mess up your whole day and likely end your life.
It’s never a bad idea to drop your knife when instructed to by a uniformed officer of the law.

      • Little choice to retreat and regroup for options in a cramped apartment. See the comments for the “21 foot” rule of confrontations. Zero time to deploy multiple means of deterrence. No one knows yet if any substance or behavioral issues were at play. Many of those deterrences are ineffective. What’s next? “Just shoot them in a leg?!”

    • It would seem the well trained police officer would draw his tazer first. But then they are trained to hit the kill spot at the range aren’t they?

    • I spent some time shadowing cops for a project I was involved in many years ago.

I did everything from ride alongs to interviews to even watching things in the morgue.

I got a chance to ask really pointed questions and got honest answers.

Regarding the use of deadly force, a couple things come to mind.

Gordon, pay attention. You might learn something.

-no cop wants the death of another person on their conscience. Even if a justified shooting.

-they literally have a split second from committing to action. By that time all reasonable non lethal options have been exhausted.

-cops are taught to shoot center mass, not to wound. Why? Center mass is easiest to hit and presents the lowest risk to bystanders.

-there is no such thing as warning shots.

-close in bean bag rounds are as dangerous as bullets.

Regarding imbecilic comments like using rubber bullets, tazers, etc. That time has passed when it gets to this point.

      • Sadly they shoot to kill because dead people don’t sue. There are other police Dept that only use guns a last resort and had zero deaths the first year. Unless they have a gun, shooting them dead is not nessasarry.

  8. The Fairbanks Police Department has had the same message since the beginning of the year. Here is another post from March which is almost identical.

The Fairbanks Community and City Administration does support the Police Department and we feel this sets us apart in the current climate in law enforcement.

  9. That’s just great, just what Alaska needs is a corrupted defund-the-police liberal. Liberal Mayor LaFrance, a democrat I’m sure of! Democrats Liberal, Corrupted Policies have NEVER WORKED anywhere they have been implemented! You have to be COMPLETELY MORALLY BLINDED to not see AND understand that those policies not only DON’T WORK, they have NEVER WORKED…no matter how many times they’re implemented!!! All you need to see is California, New York & Illinois where these INSANE POLICIES have been & continue to be implemented that they not only DON’T WORK, but they actually create & inspire MORE CRIME & DESTRUCTION of communities in those states! Liberals who promote this kind of insanity hoping that something finally good will come from it are like dogs who return to their own vomit & consume it! That’s a disgusting reference to mention, but IT’S THE TRUTH concerning EVERYTHING liberal w/their insane policies! Einstein said it best, “doing the same thing over & over expecting a different result, [is] the definition of insanity”!

  10. Any problems between the APD employees association and the mayors office will be instantly resolved by a few favorable concessions (taxpayer funded of course) on union contracts. APDEA will still support LaFrance, and the rest of the liberal left, at the next election.

  11. Learn from our neighbors down south. Ask Seattle how the CHOP zone went. It lasted 3 days then there were rapes, assaults, and murders. They soon allowed the police back in their precinct.

  12. Once street crime reaches a certain level, the only option left is street justice. In Alaska, that would more likely be armed street justice. Years ago in SoCal, a criminal Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramirez … The Night Stalker…From April 1984 to August 1985, murdered at least fourteen people during various break-in. Fact 1: The public caught him. Fact 2.. Until caught crime dropped big time as criminals knew they were more likely to get shot and killed… by the public. The course set by the mayor is stupid… but expected.

  13. Perhaps the non-voters in the Borough will now begin to use their voices thru the BALLOT and stop thinking things will j u s t change magically!

  14. I remember a few years back there was one trooper that had killed three people in a very short period in the Palmer area. We should have more good police officers like him on the ready and willing to shoot to kill a mental illness patient. Hooorah

    • “……..We should have more good police officers like him…….”
Especially in the Valley which is severely under policed. The APD alone has over 900 officers. How many Troopers in Detachment A?
The Valley has police departments in Wasilla, Palmer, and Houston. How many officers? I don’t know, but I’ll bet the total is under 200.How many Troopers in Detachment B? Again, I din’t know, but I’ll bet it isn’t nearly enough.
How many National Guardsmen in the state? About 2,000 statewide. Tuis is an embarrassment. The number should be triple that. We’re almost completely dependent on federal troops on our Army bases for protection in the event of significant social unrest……….the very thing extremists on both ends of the political spectrum are threatening, predicting, or discussing.
We should be preparing, at least if it’s only a plan…………

  15. It’s easy. If LEO’s give you a command, listen.

If not, life has consequences. 16 years old or 75 years old.

Liberal bleeding hearts will never get it.

  16. And it begins, I warned all you Anchorage folks what would happen if Lafrance won. Welcome to the lefts policies. You better hold on tight, because both the mayor and your lunatic assembly are going to bring the hurt and you better pray you don’t end up like San Francisco or LA.

  17. “if society goes crazy after the coming election”? bunk. from what i read of the commenters that comment on stories published on this site, you all squabble over everything, yammer on about isms, evil, and bloviate about war. this group couldn’t organize a lunch line. i do like reading the comments though == there’s lots of people apparently trying to outdo each other with insults that (i think) the writers thinks are a clever “gotchas”. i also read the comments because there is on occasion a nugget of actual well reasoned thought that provides good insight in to the conservative perspective (no Masked Avenger, not you, although you do have an impressive list of platitudes). keep up the commenting!

  18. GODS giving us a chance to MAGA or I believe JESUS is coming back to clean it up for us. REPUBLICANS and oath to GOD matters first & foremost to GOD. Take it back we must. Team must read Suzanne Suzanne Suzanne

  19. I remember Wasilla before we had cops, it was not good. Not good at all.
Don’t fight the cops and you won’t get hurt stupid. Threaten them with deadly force, fafo.

  20. Why bother with an armed constabulary when Peoples Code Enforcers, accountable to no one, least of all “Internal Affairs”, are empowered to shut down Anchorage simply by threatening to take peoples’ stuff?

  21. According to the PoliceIniiative. Org, Anchorage Municipality has 374 officers, patrolling a population of over 300, 000.

  22. That ad us going to leave a burn mark on the APD.

If there is not currently difficulty in recruitment, there will be soon.

    Stay strapped, Anchorage!

  23. Hey police, fire unions (and all other greedy Gov unions)
    THIS IS WHAT YOU ENDORSE!
ANC Progressives, that are on the side of criminals.
Nice going geniuses and thanks for nothing.

  24. Verdict first, LaFrance, sentence afterward? You’re leading us down a rabbit hole. Are you doing this blindly or purposefully? On the Assembly you grew used to taking action that was not yours to take. You are now getting bolder. That statement was not yours to make. You’re not mayor yet. Saying it without full knowledge of the facts, makes it an ignorant statement. You and your leftist Assembly buddies are working to turn Anchorage into the cesspool that Seattle and Portland have become. The fact remains: the entire civilized world understands that when you threaten a member of US law enforcement with a big knife, you get shot. Anchorage needs to not point blame at this cop that Suzanne wants to put behind bars, but rather at the family that has somehow created this young monster who thinks it’s okay to rush cops with a butcher knife.

  25. To be blunt.

Either you’re being facetious, are just completely ignorant, or just a total YT-addicted fool.

One. A knife will kill you as dead as a gun. If the approach distance is less than two seconds, “odds” are almost even. No such thing as “just a knife.” Ever been stabbed or cut by someone?

Two. Taser deployment is ineffective 75 to 90 percent of the time… exactly the opposite of what you see on YT. In order for it to work as well as you see on YT, both prongs have to penetrate skin, preferably torso, with the penetrations approximately eight to fourteen inches apart. You only see Taser “success” on YT and Taser doesn’t promote or keep stats on unsuccessful deployment.

Bean bag rounds are a LESS LETHAL (not non-lethal) munition and notoriously inaccurate; they are strictly for use where you have a certified user, a standoff distance, and deadly force overwatch. One reason why they require specialized training is because they can easily inflict fatal injury. Easily.

    O/C spray? Don’t even start.

News for ya, most S****n women are bigger than about half the LE I know and most 16yoa are just as big as an adult.

You go right ahead and apply if you have or think you have stones enough to deal with a 200+lb screaming crazed person coming at you with a knife… maybe you can convince them to sit and eat some poppyseed muffins with you rather than behave so poorly.

  26. Lafrance is a Marxist. She doesn’t want any law enforcement she wants a welfare state in Anchorage where she controls all the purse strings. I suspect a bunch or conservative rowdy’s in anchorage are going to come wide awake shortly and lafrance administration is going to get their asses kicked. One could only hope.
