Dunleavy will sign Don Young Day bill, and unveil new license plate design

Gov. Mike Dunleavy will sign House Bill 141, also known as the Don Young Day Bill, on Saturday, officially designating June 9 as Don Young Day in the state of Alaska.

The bill commemorates the remarkable 49-year tenure of Congressman Don Young in the United States House of Representatives, recognizing his legacy as a dedicated public servant for the state.

The signing ceremony will be attended by members of the Young family and Rep. Craig Johnson; the signing takes place at about 2 pm at the Alaska State Fair.

At 4:20 pm, the governor will unveil the winning design, as chosen by voters, of the 2023 Alaska state license plate artistic design competition. The announcement will take place on the Colony Stage.

  1. Why are we celebrating these idiot politicians who have done nothing but destroy this country? I have seen more backbone in jellyfish then these idiotic republicans who constantly get run over by democrats

  2. Those license plates are designed to provide equal rights to the visually impaired. With the lack of contrast, no one can read them now.

  3. Haha! At 4:20 you say? Gotta be a leaf in the middle. Maybe a big fat purple haired bud.

    Don would’ve approved for sure.

  4. We choose the fireweed in Denali. But, my little one thinks “but Alaskans probably chose either whale’s tail, Whale, or midnight sun.” If Fireweed in Denali is the one announced I’m going to go change my license plate.

  5. What a waste of time and money. The state is stealing from us and spending like it grows on trees. The only thing these politicians should be remembered is for the theft and destruction of our country.

  6. 4:20. If that’s not a reason to roll up a blunt. I don’t know what is. Can’t believe the governor agree to this time. I’m sure the late night comedians will work this into their monologue stop this bus. I want to get off

  7. I’ll be applying for a new license plate. I’m surprised. I seen Governor Dunleavy’s unveiled picture on the Flikr website . Alaskans have better taste this time around than I given us credit them choosing Fireweed in Denali. Usually Alaskans choose something darker and shadier rather than something lighter, brighter, and happier.
