Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy on Wednesday issued a formal proclamation declaring a vacancy in the office of the United States Representative and calling for a special election.
The special primary will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022. The special election shall be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, to fill the vacancy in the office of the United States Representative.
The need for a special election comes after the March 18 death of Congressman Don Young, who was in his 50th year of representing Alaska in Washington, D.C. Alaska has just one congressional seat.
Prior to the proclamation, the announcement had been preliminary, as laid out in a press conference held by the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and director of the Division of Elections on Tuesday. Sorry but Governor Mike cannot appoint a US Representative by US law. He can appoint a successor to a US Senator, but not a US congressman. Too bad you did not watch the press conference, it was quite instructive. The governor is bound by law to issue a proclamation specifying when the elections primary and general) will take place for the replacement. The Lt. Governor and the state elections people take it from there.

I second your motion. Alaskans need to campaign an initiative to replace this abomination and also specify that all monies in the election, whether supporting a candidate or a PAC or other super group be fully and transparently accounted for.
There is hot news coming out of the Dunleavy campaign camp! He has taken on the Russian Duma! No joke! He and his campaign field marshal have called up the shotgun and 30-30 brigades from Houston and Willow to take on the Russian Duma! Yes! But they had better call up the mountain brigades from Sutton and Butte, too, in addition to the flat-landers from the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta region! I don’t know if he has “activated” the American Legion to secure the bridges across Eagle River? And they definitely need to hold the bridges at the Knik and Matanuska Rivers! Dunleavy has it all thought out: If the Russian Duma thinks that it can take back Alaska and Fort Ross, they have another thing coming! Dunleavy, along with his RINOs and whinos, will push the Russkies all the way back to the Caucasus Mountains–all without Biden and NATO! Zelensky has nothing on Dunleavy! The question is this: Are you with the “champ” or not? If so, contribute unmarked 50s and 100s to his campaign now. For a receipt you’ll get a wink, a nod, and a friendly slap on the back to let you know that you’re really one of “them!” Ursa Major versus the Russian bear!
So what? Obviously this will not be a fair vote and I fear it’s too late to stop the train wreck. Why did this occur in light of all the exposed election cheating for which Alaska was the poster child?
