Drag queens are featured programming for kids at Fairbanks’ Noel Wien Library

On Saturday, a handful of drag queens were the scheduled event at the Noel Wien Public Library. The organizers, Fairbanks Queer Collective, scheduled the event intentionally for the same timeframe that the conservative group “Moms for Liberty” meets at the library.

Local drag performers King David, Killian Dalliance, Mist Etheriesca, and Oasis Debris, started the afternoon by reading books aloud for younger children, and then moved on to books for older youth.

Drag Queen Story Hour at Noel Wien Library

“Everything is age appropriate and filled with joy. After storytime, stick around for bracelet-making, coloring pages, board games, and community time. You’re welcome to bring a snack for yourself or something to share. Food is allowed in the Active Learning Lab, and all ages are welcome,” the announcement said, and then added that “Moms for Liberty, a group known for anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, meets at the library at the same time. These joyful queer gatherings are intentionally held during that window to offer community care and visibility. We encourage folks to stay aware, take care of themselves, and show up in ways that feel right for them.”

  1. Fairbanks Queer Collective, also known as Moms for Sexual Perversion and Child Grooming…… If conservatives purposely scheduled events alongside neobolshevic events, the leftists would automatically, instinctively resort to violence (with their faces covered, of course).

  2. Stop trying to influence our youth just because “you” have gender identity problems. Go show yourselves off in night clubs, not in our schools.

  3. These things have no place at story hour for ANY child. Parents need to Boycott this garbage at every turn! Shame on you Fairbanks!

  4. “Transvestic, child-grooming pervert” seems like a better fit than “drag queen”.
    .
Why let them control the narrative?

  5. OWWW. You took the bait.
Look, the US is turning the corner on this idiocy. Number of clicks aside, stop giving them press.

  6. Sure hope you don’t receive any Federal Funds to groom Children. You all have done lost your freaking minds.

Report these fools directly to POTUS at: ‘https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

  7. This needs to be STOPPED. Their time is over. Trump put an end to the Destruction of women’s sports, it is time for Mayor’s, and Assemblies to stop the Destruction of our kids hearts, minds, and souls. . If your Mayor or Assembly won’t do, then they need to be voted out. If the majority of voters in your area are Union Members who vote in large numbers in small turnout elections—–Those people need to be confronted privately or publically as to why they are supporting this. I think most of them will vote differently behind the VOTING CURTAIN, if confronted about what they are truly voting for. There are a lot of RED UNION VOTERS, who need encouragement to do the Right thing.

    • Jonathan–fortunately, the Noel Wein Library is in America, where the first amendment grants residents freedom of speech and assembly. The library is a public library, and all groups and individuals have rights to use its facilities. Attempting to intimidate voters to influence their voting choices–e.g. confronting them in any manner–is illegal under both federal and state law.

      • I disagree. Children are under protection of UNDER THE AGE OF REASON. Adult groups have No RIGHT to enter a Public Building and try to Sexually Influence Children. Would you be against BULLYING CLASSES FOR CHILDREN, or how about Story Hour for HOMOPHOB’S.

      • “..queer gatherings are intentionally held during that window…”. I would definately call that confronting them in some manner.

  8. I have questions

    1. How come they don’t read books to seniors at the senior center?
    2. How many parents actually bring their childen to this foolishness?
    3. Does the library ever ask Military Veterans or other LEO and first responder heros to come read to kids?
    4. Does the Library pay these clowns (literally they are clowns) to do this?

      • SA:
Attend drag shows for kids at your own peril.
DA’s and their assistants are cracking down on child sex abuse. Check the police blotter and newspapers. Child predators are going to prison. Period.

        • Jose–there is no child sex abuse happening at Drag Story Hour at Noel Wein Library. There are no “drag shows for kids’ at the Noel Wein Library. Just a bunch of young people and some parents listening to stories, coloring pages, playing board games, and having a good time with their friends while the Moms for Liberty group next door did their own thing.

            • I’m not SA, and I don’t have strong opinions about drag shows or other musical theater in general. But, if you should understand that the Klondike Drag folks (whom this story hour seems to revolve around) include some of Fairbanks’ most lovely, welcoming and inclusive community members. They have really made a place where people who often don’t feel welcome are comfortable, be they trans, queer or just in need of community. That’s why, I – as a straight, white male who is far from a perfect “ally” – are hell-bent on rooting for these “clowns,” as you put it. They are making our community a better place. I dare you to go to one of their shows and truly observe the atmosphere they have created. You might consider a very small part of it perverse, especially if you go to a late show at a bar (most of it is orders of magnitude less “sexual” than a typical Brittany Spears video). But, you also will notice a very intentional nurturing of community that Oasis Debris and other principals are engaged in. Keep hating them if you like, but you will no longer be confused about why some of us long-time Fairbanksans have embraced them.

              • This was gibberish. Nobody watches Britney Spears, Dan.
Nothing you said was remotely or slightly attractive to our family. You are living in a Clown world.

                • You asked a question. I answered it to the best of my abilities. I certainly don’t presume you and your family to be attracted to kindness, inclusivity and community. But, since you asked, I figured I might explain that I, and others, are.

Alternatively, maybe your question was rhetorical rather than curious. Fair enough. I care a lot about those three values, and care very little about fashion, dance moves and camp. Your priorities may vary.

                  • The Devil is able to cloak himself in kindness, inclusivity and community. He hides in plain site and his demons can project whatever insincerities must be done to capture as many unwitting humans as possible. Drag shows are fertile grounds for the hunt.

  9. Drag queens are indecent and a manifestation of a mental disorder. They should at least have an R rating, unsuitable for exposure to children. Let’s see some laws written and stop the madness.

  10. I can tell you this Noel wien would not appreciate this crap. I’m starting to think Theodore Roosevelt was right we either need a world war or a revolution to keep our country cleaned up as it is the country is going in the tank.

  11. Some parents, for whatever reason, trust the library and their “storytelling” to babysit their kids – they trust the public schools too. This is child abuse. “R” and “X” rated (or should be anyway) material and shows should not be allowed in public libraries or schools, but restricted to locations where people who actually want to seek this can enjoy it, without forcing it on the rest of us or forcing us to subsidize it. They have no right to recruit our kids.

  12. What’s wrong with a little “dress up”and stories with a message, in a “joyful queer” setting.. Hey, it`s “active learning”, taking inventory of the possibilities out there. It just might pay off in a few years if not sooner. What could be more joyful?

  13. It’s nauseating. The Roman Empire, started this crap a few thousand years ago and where are they today ??? Good question to ponder on this wonderful Easter Sunday. I can tell you one thing the vast majority of the American people are sick of this deviant nonsense.

  14. If it’s all about story telling and spreading joy, why aren’t they going to the senior centers, the nursing homes, hospices and reading to our forgotten elders?

    • Lori–The event is deliberately scheduled to coincide with the Moms for Liberty monthly gatherings, which also meet at the library.

      • That is just plain chickensh!t harassment. If conservatives used that strategy, dirty leftist lawyers would be filing lawfare suits like crazy.

        • M.John–The two groups meet in different rooms at the library. Meeting at the same time, but in different spaces, does not count as harassment.

One might counter your claim of harassment by noting that it was a member of the Moms for Liberty group who took photos of the participants in the story hour room through the window to post on social media, and that is a legitimate example of harassment.

          • Moms For Liberty scheduled first, the queer clowns, by their own admission, purposely followed them. That alone would constitute a solid basis for the claim of harassment.

  15. Stores cannot sell adult material to minors. Must be 18 years or older even for a Playboy magazine. That’s the Law. Libraries are no exception. We have been letting the Illegal Sex Community to wander past the confines of the law in our libraries, and our streets when gay pride parades expose themselves. Union public employees have turned a blind eye to this because they are too busy voting for Democrats to raise taxes or steal your PFD to increase their retirement. The DEMOCRAT Gay Pride Movement is protected by THE DEMOCRAT PUBLIC EMPLOYEES UNION, and does the bidding of DEMOCRAT LIBRARIES UNION. The only way to stop this is for Conservatives to become politically active and VOTE. That is how Democrats have seized power.

    • When I worked at the library, a man was looking at porn on a computer that anyone could see – could not help seeing – as they walked past. A woman who was there with her preteen daughter complained to me, so I brought it up to the librarians, as I was a low-level employee. They were annoyed with me, said they couldn’t do anything about it because of first-amendment rights, etc. I suggested they could have him look at it in a less public location, but oh no, that would infringe on his rights as well. The library administration is very woke and care more about their politics than our children or any laws protecting them.

  16. Time to close the library!!! That place IS NOT child friendly! Parents need to understand what these library employee’s agendas truly are.

  17. Is there anything creepier than a man dressed up like a woman and wearing greatly embellished full makeup? As a child, I would have been terrified of this spectral!

What is wrong with parents who take their kids to these events?
