The man who was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting in downtown Anchorage has been identified as 23-year-old Leroy Manogiamanu.

The shooting took place at about 2:50 am outside the Gaslight Lounge, which is nearly directly across from the Anchorage Police Department’s downtown headquarters.

When officers arrived, they found three victims, one of whom had non-life-threatening injuries, one with life-threatening injuries; and one deceased adult male victim, who was identified on Monday morning. Medics transported the victims to the hospital. A fourth victim was later located with non-life-threatening injuries. The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the scene. The suspect is still at large.

Manogiamanu, who lived with family members in the Muldoon area of Anchorage, has no prior run-ins with the law in Alaska. His court record has just minor vehicle-related violations.

  1. Sad situation. My heart goes out to his family, and friends. Mayor LaFrance, what has happened to our city? How could this happen, right across the street from the police department? Please DO something!

    • To be fair, the Gaslight has been the scene of quite a few murders going back years.
Perhaps the Gaslight should be denied their liquor license, but the murders are all outside the bar on Muni property (one of the wounded here was laying in the APD parking lot) so idk.

      • I do not know anybody with any common sense that even remotely thinks about being anywhere near the vicinity of the downtown area at that hour let alone the Gaslight “shooting range” at 3:00AM.
Unless they are suffering suicidal tendencies or overdosing on testosterone.
I think the downtown area is the safest place for the “shooting range” as officers dont have to travel far to put out the fire and less chance of innocent residents becoming victims of the flying bullets.

    • Your heart shouldn’t waste time on someone who shot 3 people before getting killed by a security guard. Watch the video. This article is false, saying the shooter is still at large. The person the article is calling the “victim” was the shooter!

    • Why?
You think closing earlier would have prevented this? I have my doubts, especially after having seen the security video. The entire episode took place on the sidewalk, not in the bar. Whatever the precipitating factor, the time of day would have been irrelevant. It appears to me that a group got into an argument with the shooter, security personnel moved outside to assess and the guy opened fire. Security officers returned fire and subdued the threat. This could have happened anywhere at any time and demanding that bars close earlier, is a solution that does not address the problem, but punishes the establishment for criminal behavior of individuals, just hanging out in front.

  2. “We are now five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”. Barack Obama, 2008.

Now, several gears later, we have a better idea of what he had in mind.

Obama to Trump, to Biden and back to Trump. We need to do better.

  3. I want to see the stats: the percentage of Pacific Islanders who reside in Alaska, and that group’s rates of incarceration as well as their implication in crimes of all type.

  4. He wasn’t a victim, and save your condolences to his family. This perp WAS the provoking shooter who injured two security guards and a female patron, before being gunned down like the murderer that he was.
