Foreign assistance can be done without USAID, said Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a post on X.
“Foreign assistance done right can advance our national interests, protect our borders, and strengthen our partnerships with key allies. Unfortunately, USAID strayed from its original mission long ago. As a result, the gains were too few and the costs were too high. Thanks to President Trump, this misguided and fiscally irresponsible era is now over,” Rubio wrote, as the State Department takes over many of the programs previously run by the US Agency of International Development.
“We are reorienting our foreign assistance programs to align directly with what is best for the United States and our citizens. We are continuing essential lifesaving programs and making strategic investments that strengthen our partners and our own country,” Rubio said.
This means USAID is closed and the legal challenges have failed. A federal appeals court overturned a lower court’s ruling that had claimed certain Department of Government Efficiency actions at USAID were unconstitutional. The appeals court allows DOGE to continue digging into waste, fraud, and abuse at the agency.
DOGE pulled back the veil on USAID’s excessive ideological leaning, including millions to fund diversity-equity-inclusion programs around the world. The blatant abuse of taxpayer dollars has led President Donald Trump to make the decision to close USAID and incorporate some of its programs into the State Department.
I will pray for the junkies addicted to these soul-wrenching entitlements. The recovery will not be easy, and the suffering will be real. Tough love for the wretched. The weeping and gnashing shall commence. We lose touch with reality when the resources we receive are the costs borne by our family, friends, and neighbors. I don’t believe Trump’s vision will become manifest. Having been born and raised in Alaska I am very familiar with junkies, whores, and pimps. My money is on them. You just don’t have it in you to prevail.
Kind of a weird comment there, David. While I agree that USAID should be shut down, the “junkies” analogy is odd. “Having been born and raised in Alaska….” If you would substitute “Chicago” or “Detroit” for “Alaska” in that sentence, it would actually make sense. While I realize pipeline days were probably pretty rough, I don’t think any of the people I know who were born and raised in Alaska are very familiar with those types of people.
Might sound weird M, but if he is talking about the hangers-around at the downtown transit center in Fairbanks, he speaks truth. Major drug deals there daily despite security detail. Sex in the parking lot across the street – in the open on the ground… Same day as stabbings in the next block.
As for USAID, good riddance – it has been a tool for meddling and social engineering. Will State be better? Not if we elect more lefties.
Good job DOGE!!!! Get rid of these bs companies created to steal taxpayers money!
The biggest threat to the Republic is our runaway judicial system.
How dare they check and balance, right? It’s almost as if they think they’re a co-equal branch of government!
That’s the problem cman, they aren’t co-equal. Each branch has its place and the judiciary is the weakest branch by design. Unfortunately the executive and the legislature have allowed the judiciary to assume roles not laid out in the Constitution, and the judiciary is more than happy to assume the role as a co-equal.
Any taxpayer money that goes to a foreigner is a waste of taxpayer money. Taxpayer money should be used to help taxpayers and nobody else. What have those foreigners ever done for us? I’ll answer my own question: Nothing!
All those who protested should be thoroughly investigated. Most were probably recipients or worker who benefited from USAid! Sink that ship ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
As was the case with the origins of the Covid-19 virus, in a few years we will likely view the USAID as the most corrupt government agency that has ever existed in the history of the nation. There are meritorious USAID projects but about eighty percent would never be supported by a majority of Americans. USAID pushed divisive social nonsense and was a money-laundering tool for Leftist causes and NGOs. It should be understood that some – and I am following the research – of the handouts flowing through USAID may have been diverted to political advocacy within the United States. This has been described as a “self-licking ice cream cone”. Stay tuned.
Good.
Case number, please? Jere
