Breaking: Trump picks J.D. Vance as vice presidential nominee

J.D. Vance

Sen. J.D. Vance will be Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee.

Vance, age 39, was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Iraq War, graduated from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School.

He wrote a bestselling book, Hillbilly Elegy, which was turned into a Netflix movie. He also started a business dedicated to growing jobs and opportunity in the Midwest.

Vance launched his first campaign for Ohio’s Senate seat in 2021 and won after being endorsed by former President Donald Trump. He defeated Democratic nominee Tim Ryan in the general election.

  1. A pretty solid pick for Trump. Though Gov. DeWine will likely appoint a rhino to replace Vance. And Trump was going to carry Ohio anyways.

    It is a pick for who he thinks is best placed and constituted to succeed him and be a credit to his legacy.

  4. It won’t change any vote count. He was a strong anti Trump guy not long ago. Maybe worse than me. But the party threatens to pull his funding and everything changes. In the end, it’s all about the money sadly.

  10. Would have preferred someone else, but I understand the pick. Vance will be in his early 40s after Trump’s second term, in good shape to carry the battle forward.

    Vance is a solid pick, for many good reasons. He’s a military vet- and not a draft dodger like Biden/Trump. At 39 he is the youngest person of the respective Democrat/Republican presidential/VP candidates. This will appeal to younger voters fed up with unintelligent, demented Biden- Harris disaster. He helps ensure Ohio will give its electoral votes to Trump. He’s smart, conservative, and he’s not Ramaswamy.

  13. People who don’t care for Senator Vance are going to invoke Dan Quayle. People who don’t respect the current Vice-President are going to say Vance is a better option.

    Senator Vance is not the first national politician of our era with a social media history, but due to his age, he’s going to be the first national politician whose entire feed will be harvested and used for both attacks and embarrasssing posts.

    He’s now the nominee. He has written a book, and unlike legacy politicians, he wrote his own social posts.

    It doesn’t change a single vote. No one who wasn’t voting for President Trump is now going to change their vote.

  14. Vance has previously stated that he’s “a never Trump guy” who “never liked him” and thinks he is a “terrible candidate” who might be “America’s Hitler.” He added that he was a “noxious” and “reprehensible,” “cynical a**hole” and “cultural heroine.”

    So I guess that Vance’s fuzzy new beard tickled Trump enough in the right places that he was forgiven.

    • So the worst thing you can say about him is that he once disliked a guy that you dislike and he changed his mind once he met that guy and saw the results of his policies. Sounds like Whidbey has just made an endorsement of JD Vance as a reasonable person with the ability to think and change his mind when the evidence suggests his previous line of thinking was incorrect…could be a lot worse character traits.
