An Anchorage grand jury indicted former Acting Alaska Attorney General Clyde Edward Sniffen, Jr. on three counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree for conduct alleged to have occurred with a West High School Student while he was in a position of authority in 1991. Sniffen’s Superior Court arraignment is set for Sept. 26, 2022 at 1:45 pm.

The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Sniffen is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, the Department of Law said.

The woman he allegedly sexually abused was 17 at the time, and is now in her late 40s. She came forward after the long-time assistant attorney general had been appointed acting attorney general after the resignation of former AG Kevin Clarkson. Sniffen quickly resigned after the allegations were brought to the mainstream media.

Independent Special Prosecutor Gregg M. Olson is in charge of the cse.

  1. Sounds like someone in the Office of Special Prosecution is doing their job! About damn time!
Now start processing the other cases in office.

  2. How do you even go about proving something like this after 30 years?
Interesting that she waited so long (what was the motivation for speaking up now)? OTOH, interesting that he resigned so quickly (who wouldn’t put up a fight if it was pure BS)? Who knows…

  3. She evidently came forward before the statute of limitations ran out, which allows the court practically unlimited time to prosecute. Perhaps the political climate wasn’t right for the prosecution to go forward at the time, but now Sniffen may not have the political protections which he may have had earlier?
Fairly recent legislation has done away with limitations for such crimes, but isn’t retroactive to 91, except an ongoing criminal investigation can date prior to the effective date of new legislation.
I’m not an attorney, and if I’m incorrect, sue me!

  4. See, his big mistake was that he was not working at Juneau School District….That sort of behavior is encouraged there…..

  5. When I see all of the misogynistic comments by anonymous trolls I understand why sexual abuse is such a huge problem

    • Frankly Rancid, you clearly have NO idea what the word “misogynistic” means, or else are blatantly dishonest and disingenuous in using it here, or more likely all of the above. I can see not one single comment here that bears any trace of “misogyny’. But for you and for every other radical leftist extremist, it is just a curse word and a slur, intended to automatically shut down conversation, like “racist” or “insurrection” or “transphobic”, or any of the other 1001 buzzwords, devoid of any real meaning, that you radical leftist extremists love to throw around.
      .
And while sexual abuse is a big problem, I am far more concerned about the abuse of language, law, and the political system by you radical leftist extremists, which negatively and radically affects every single one of us, including you radical leftist extremists yourselves, only you are too stupid and too arrogant to realize that fact.
