In a letter to Alaskans, sent on Saturday, October 10, the Alaska Republican Party encouraged voters to rank all three Republican candidates for Governor while clarifying the party’s stance in opposition to ranked-choice voting. The letter also strongly emphasizes the importance of showing up to vote, ending with a challenge to commit to voting this November and also encouraging five friends or family members to also vote.
The letter begins with the unifying principles among Republican voters: “Now more than ever, we must stand united for the ideals we cherish: freedom, limited government, safety, responsible resource development, economic opportunity and a strong future for our children.”
After thanking candidates who were willing to step up and take on the costs of running for election, the Alaska Republican Party spoke plainly about Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system— both the party’s desire to see RCV repealed and acknowledgement that it is the system that this election will be conducted under. “We want to be clear: we do not support ranked choice voting. It is a confusing, burdensome and costly voting scheme,” the letter states. “That said, ranked choice voting is the system Alaska will use for the 2026 General Election, and we must work within it for this election to keep Alaska’s recent momentum going strong.”
While acknowledging frustration with the process, Alaska Republican leaders say they will “rank every Republican on our ballots, and we call on you to do the same… and leave every Democrat blank. This is how we win.”
The letter closes by emphasizing the importance of showing up to vote. “Alaska elections can be extraordinarily close. Some Alaskan races have been decided by fewer than ten votes. Every vote matters.”
“Today, we are asking you to make a simple pledge: vote this November and encourage five friends or family members to vote, too. Rank the Republicans on your ballot. Leave the Democrats blank,” concludes the letter. “Let’s show up in numbers worthy of the great state and country we love.”
The letter is signed by Alaska Republican Chair Carmela Warfield, Vice Chair Jason Perry, National Committeewoman Cynthia Henry, National Committeeman Brian Hove, Secretary Trevor Shaw, Treasurer Kevin Fimon, Finance Chair Ryan McKee, as well as the Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and Representatives for Regions 1-7.
