Acting in Anchorage: LaFrance takes over as acting chair, Constant becomes acting vice chair of Assembly

Anchorage Assemblywoman Suzanne LaFrance of South Anchorage is the new acting chair of the Assembly, while Chris Constant of downtown has become acting vice chair.

The two replace Acting Chair Felix Rivera and Acting Vice Chair John Weddleton, but the situation is temporary.

The Assembly could reorganize again once Mayor-elect Dave Bronson is sworn into office and Acting Mayor Austin Quinn-Davidson returns to her seat on the Assembly, representing West Anchorage.

The Anchorage government has been in “acting” mode since Oct. 23, when former Mayor Ethan Berkowitz resigned after a scandal erupted. Quinn-Davidson, who was chair of the Assembly, became acting mayor that day, temporarily reorganizing the Assembly and blocking anyone from taking her seat. It’s possible that Quinn-Davidson will not actually return to the Assembly, as she is rumored to be a pick for a position in the Biden Administration.

  1. Biden Administration? As what? This idiot couldn’t think her way out of a wet paper bag.

Maybe that’s what they’re looking for?

  2. See! It just got worse. Now look what you all did! Now Anchorage is stuck with the point of order guy and with even greater power!

  3. Lest we forget, LaFrance is on the Alaska Municipal League Board of Directors.
    .
The Alaska Municipal League exists, in their words, to: “To safeguard the interests, rights and privileges of Alaskan municipalities…”
    .
    Not Alaskans, not taxpayers… “municipalities”.
    .
The Alaska Municipal League has $424,908,327.42 of taxpayers’ money stashed safely out of taxpayers’ reach in its “Investment Pool”.
    .
This is your Anchorage Assembly chair.

  4. @widbey…\
“You all hate her, yet you don’t even know her. Such nice people live here on MRAK…”
    .
First of all, how do you know the people posting comments do not know her? Do you know them?
Secondly, the comments are almost 100% about her performance as an Assembly member and acting Mayor, not about her personally. (Yes, there is at least one personal attack there, but read the rest of the comments).
Finally, what difference does that make in any way? I do not have to have close personal knowledge of a person to express dissatisfaction with their public persona. If I think Keanu Reeves has all the acting ability of a sheet of plywood, that is my opinion based on his public persona. It has nothing to do with him as a person.

  5. ”let them eat cake Lafrance” is a real winner if you’ve ever had the misfortune of talking to this megalomaniac I’m sure you understand.

  6. Whidbey, I’ve corresponded with her. She’s stuck up, crabby and will not answer the simple question of why the assembly would spend $21 million on real estate instead of hiring temp nurses for our overwhelmed and overworked healthcare system last year.

  7. Off topic: What is Alaska doing about banning teachers from implementing Critical Race Theory? Many states are moving against it. Why aren’t we???

  8. Whidbey, LaFrance chose her political leanings, nice person or not. She also chose to run for election and was seated on the assembly. Such is politics. Lastly, I suspect you despise Trump. But alas, you do it even know him.
