Anchorage voting update: 35,055 and counting

Anchorage voters have cast 35,055 ballots as of yesterday, raising the turnout in the city’s first mail-in municipal election to 17.7 percent. About 5,000 ballots were received yesterday.

About 198,000 ballots were mailed on March 13. The final day to submit or postmark your ballot is April 3.

To compare, turnout for the mayoral election in 2015 was 54,275 for the first round and 70,516 for the runoff.

(Must Read Alaska readers who want to know if their ballots have been received can personal message Suzanne on Facebook @MustReadAlaska and I will look it up.)

Eagle River and Chugiak are still underperforming South Anchorage, however. Only nine ballots were dropped off at the Accessible Voting Center at the Chugiak Senior Center yesterday.
