The man found dead in the road on Minnesota Drive on Tuesday in Anchorage has been identified as Christopher Lebert, age 36.

His death has been ruled a homicide, but police have not revealed how he was killed. They have said, however, that his motorcycle had been dragged for a half a mile by a stolen 2004 grey-black Chevy Tahoe, which was later found abandoned in the Turnagain neighborhood next to Lynn-Ary Park. The incident occurred just before midnight.

Lebert is known to the criminal justice system. In 2018 he was charged with a Class B felony for making/distributing controlled schedule 1 drug. Typically that would be heroin, methamphetamine, or cocaine. That charge was dismissed but he pled guilty to giving false information to an officer.

He had other crimes on his record, including being found guilty of shoplifting and forgery. He also had some evictions.

Two years ago, a woman on Facebook accused him of stealing her purse at Walmart, and trying to register a truck in her name. Lebert was originally from Miami, Fla. and had worked as a hunting guide in Stony River in 2012.

    • Stand down soldier…
Ms. Downing was only reporting who the victim was, and that he has been involved in drug crimes and theft. She suggested nothing. She stated he has a criminal record.

    • Facts is facts, HK. Regardless of his past, Mr. Lebert didn’t deserve to die in the manner he did. However, it has been reported that he was being chased by the driver of the car that killed him. That would imply a motive for the attack. It’s possible that motive was related to something in Mr. Lebert’s background. Therefore, his prior activities are pertinent to the discussion. That’s not shaming the victim, it’s making the facts known.

    • HK-A possible drug-use habit and a court record for theft and forgery, selling drugs. These are things investigators look at for motives. Who wanted him dead? I read it as that it may not be a random hit and run. It could be that Mr. Lebert knew his killer.

  1. Its total [expletive deleted] to bring up the criminal record of a man who was most likely dragged to his death. This isn’t reporting. This is shaming a dead man for his past crimes and its [expletive deleted] disgusting.

  2. I hate criminals of all kinds. It does seem to help a little when you know that the deceased isn’t exactly one of Alaska’s finest individuals.

  3. Passed by just after. Decently a hit and run from what I could see helmet separated from downed person. position did not look as if purposely targeted. just at 15th where most people change into left lane before bridge on on the curve.

  4. Shame on everyone involved with writing, editing, and distributing this post! Who raised you?!? You are attempting to define a young man, who was loved deeply by God and MANY others, by his criminal history and nothing more. Ridiculous. How about his victories? His contributions? How about you mention the other 98% of his life??? I pray that your ignorance be revealed to you and that you rectify this and beg his family for forgiveness! Shame on all of you!!!

  5. Amen Tami N
How would all of you like to have your mistakes highlighted at your death while completely leaving out that you were a loved mother/father graduate etc but nothing but someone who made a few mistakes that you have no idea the circumstances involved.around
