Former President Donald Trump said Sunday morning that it was “God alone who prevented” his death after he survived a Saturday evening assassination attempt at a campaign rally north of Pittsburgh.

Writing on his Truth Social media account, Trump said that the country should “stand united” and not allow evil to win.

“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” Trump wrote. “We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.”

One person was killed and another seriously wounded in the attack, in which a bullet from the attempted assassin grazed Trump’s right ear.

“Our love goes out to the other victims and their families,” Trump wrote. “We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”

Trump said despite the attack, he plans to attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week, where he will formally accept the GOP nomination to run for president against President Joe Biden.

“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” he wrote. “I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.”

Members of the U.S. Secret Service killed the shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was staged on a nearby rooftop outside of the event.

After the attempted assassination, U.S. House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., said he would call the U.S. Secret Service director to appear for a hearing before Congress to determine how the shooter was able to fire shots that could have killed the former president.

Robert Kennedy Jr., who’s running for president as an independent, and who’s uncle, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in 1963, said, “Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.”

    • Waste of time. Prayer is nothing more than silent thought. There’s nobody there to ‘hear’ it, let alone answer it. You can’t prove to me that any prayer you’ve ever prayed has ever had a response.

      • Whidbey Dog, I could write books on God’s many answers to my prayers – maybe SD, with your permission, will put you in touch with me.
Pray for peace and sanity for our nation.

      • Then why bother with a response? If it doesn’t matter and there is no God, why waste time pointing it out?
Nobody has to “prove” anything, as they are all individuals, who can make their own decisions on faith and God regardless of what you think, declare or demand. If Christen wishes to pray that is his prerogative and your personal doubts and attitudes are not his problem.

        • One problem with prayer is that it is a substitute for effective action. For example, those religionists that believe god, not medicine is the best treatment. People needlessly die while waiting for an answer to a prayer.

  1. We know it wasn’t the Secret Service who protected him. Affirmative Action for Secret Service Agents? What could go wrong?

    • No you are not.
After years of spewing hatred toward that man, there is no way you are glad God is on Trump’s side. In fact, I doubt you believe it at all. Absolutely nothing you have written here has demonstrated that you wish Donald J. Trump any positive thoughts, or well wishes at all.

  2. It’s going to be entertaining to watch those that denied additional resources squirm in their seats during the upcoming congressional inquiries as they attempt to articulate their reasoning for denying those requests.

  3. A little town. A handful of roofs. The roof that was only 150 yards away and most easily accessed was not covered. Clearly this was an assassination attempt orchestrated by the Deep State.

  4. Trump. A brave American hero, who’s going to clean the clock out of the coward Joe Biden. Then, clean up America and the Democrats.👏👏

  5. It’s been reported that the shots were fired at 6:11 pm. Interestingly the scripture Ephesians 6:11 says to, “put on the whole armor of God”…
    Coincidence?
Oh, and the following verse 6:12 , says that we war not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places.
    Something to ponder.

  6. Look, here’s what we know this morning. The shooter had contributed $15 to some Democratic Party cause or candidate. There has been no rioting, looting, and burning in any city by any Trump supporters.

Now, picture the opposite circumstances, where some loony person with a history of Republican support had shot at Biden. In that case there would already be mass rioting in many major (Democratic Party) cities that would swell and continue until November, and every bit of this chaos would all be excused by the MSM and blamed on Trump. We know this to be true.

There it is – this is now the state of ‘our democracy.’ Biden and his party used the organized chaos of 2020 to purportedly win that election. Expect more of the same.

  7. Trump should be careful about stating what God’s intentions were. If god saved Trump, then God wanted the retired firefighter behind Trump to be murdered.

Biden said he wanted a ‘bullseye” on Trump as the demented Biden tried to shift focus away from his own decrepitude. Then the Secret Service deliberately failed to set a safe perimeter for Trump. Not only letting a 20 year kid just out of high school take advantage of this major security lapse, but not pulling Trump out of harm’s way after at least one witness was telling law enforcement there was a guy with a rifle on the roof minutes before the assassination attempt. The failure to pull Trump away likely lead to the death of one person, and severe injuries in others.

One wonders if the judge will sentence Trump to jail in his “fraud” case. With Trump still alive the best way to attack him is to sentence him to prison for 30-90 days. Just enough time to disrupt the campaign and give Biden an edge.

        • I worded that incorrectly. Of course he cares. I have a hard time understanding why baby’s have to starve or die horrible suffering deaths. Something else is going on besides eating the forbidden fruit.

          • All who are murdered are innocent victims of dreadfully sinful people who are deserving of both human and Divine judgment. Still, all people are sufficiently sinful to be deserving of Divine judgment. “…Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many (all people who have sincerely repented); and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

        • Well, I haven’t repented, and I’m alive and kicking. What rubbish, pure and unadulterated. Someday you will realize how you have been duped and taken in by the Religion industry. But if it makes you feel good, well, go with it.

      • Even if there is a God, we’re just tiny little ants about which She cares little. Why do people all think they’re something special? Yeah, I guess “God’s Plan” for the poor firefighter was to die while supporting his Chosen One. What a load of crap.

        • When you operate only on Cliff notes when it comes to faith and God you get crap like what you just posted WTD. The understanding of free choice and predestination is complex.
I find it humorous that you went from “there is no God” period end of sentence to “even if there is a God” (and you even capitalized the word) Hedging your bets here???

          • Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you’d have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion. ~ Steven Weinberg

    • Trump is not going to jail. That entire case is Rediculous. Completely rigged jury. And a ringer for a judge. Who by the way is totally corrupt.

Biden is the crook here. Russian collusion, cocane in the White House. Which was his by the way. He was so jacked up he didn’t even blink the entire debate. How about the top secret documents in his garage. ??? His ties to Ukraine business. It goes on and on. Biden is a crook.

      • Doug, we are not following your logic. If you think the judge, jury, and case was corrupt… then why would this corrupt judge not put Trump in prison?

Isn’t that the whole goal of these corrupt people?

    • M, I believe God preserved DJT – the firefighter lost his life to show us the horror of violence and to warn us to draw together as a nation and ratchet down the rhetoric before many other “innocents” get hurt or die. God may preserve one and allow another to die – His call – but He did not Will the other to die.

      • Mr. Thorne, I’m sure you are a nice guy, fervent in your religious beliefs, pious, and devout. But unfortunately none of what you imagine to believe in this regard is true. Open your eyes. It took me 50 years to shed the indoctrination of my youth, and I now live a life free of religious delusion.

It’s mainly peer pressure and a need for social acceptance that adheres you to your “faith”, and nothing else. Let it go and set yourself free.

There is love, beauty, and purpose to be found without a God, and it all comes without a load of religious guilt or the threat of eternal damnation.

  8. Republicans under Trump have increasingly advocated violence as a way to gain power because they know their unpopular positions cannot lead their candidates to victory in free and fair elections. In this moment, when there is still little evidence about this event, it appears they are projecting their own behavior onto Biden and the Democrats, blaming them for advocating violence when in fact, Biden and the Democrats have tried hard to enact commonsense gun safety laws and have consistently condemned the violent language and normalizing of political violence by Republicans.

    • Can you point to the violence?
Is it in the room with us now?
      .
Or are you one of those clowns that think words they do not like are actual physical violent acts against them but the actual physical violence they agree with (BLM riots spring to mind) is just free speech?

  9. From Jay Kuo
    The cycle of abuse
Many experts have deemed Trump, and rightly so, a malignant narcissist with whom the U.S. has been in a long, abusive relationship. Two hallmarks of such a relationship include outright denials that the abuse is even happening (a classic gaslighter’s ploy) and a period where the victim (that’s us) believes that somehow the abuser has reformed himself.
We’re about to enter that cycle in the next few days while the RNC gathers, and we should be clear-eyed about what Trump is trying to pull.
While abusive cycles are not always the same, it’s important to recognize when we might be falling into a classic pattern. There are many versions of this “cycle of abuse” out there, but here’s one ease of reference:
    1.) Tensions Building
    2.) Incident
    3.) Reconciliation
    4.)Calm: incident is forgotten
The above is a condensed version
See it, recognize it & don’t fall for it.
