AFTER SURPRISE VISIT, TALIBAN SAYS ITS READY TO TALK PEACE

President Donald Trump made a surprise visit to U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan, served dinner, and broke bread with the troops.

He also delivered an address to them.

Subsequent to his visit, the Taliban said today they are ready to restart peace talks with the U.S.

President Trump had cancelled a ceasefire with the Taliban after the group claimed responsibility for a September attack in Kabul that killed 12, including an American soldier.

Trump’s surprise Thanksgiving Day visit came just a week after a prisoner swap between Washington and Kabul.

“The Taliban wants to make a deal and we are meeting with them,” Trump told reporters on Thursday.

COVERAGE OF HIS TRIP IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA

CNN characterized the president as sneaking off to Afghanistan, while Fox News focused on how the White House and Pentagon managed to keep the surprise visit under wraps.

Newsweek ran a story saying the president was spending his holiday golfing and tweeting.

Newsweek originally ran a story headlined: “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more.”

“As with any other day of the year, Trump will probably be tweeting, or expressing his opinions in another way,” Newsweek wrote.

“Fake news gonna fake!” the president’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr. wrote, in response.

The Newsweek story also prompted derision from President Trump. The news group ended up rewriting its story.

The New York Times characterized it as a campaign stop.

  1. BRAVO POTUS!! A hero among heroes !! A proud American tradition surges forward!! Make the peace, bring them home!!

  2. It is not a surprise to me the president made this Thanksgiving appearance to be with the troops overseas somewhere, and also not a surprise to learn the US will again carry on talks with the Taliban….This President is determined to win, then bring the troops home…If anyone can get this done ….this president can…

  3. If you change the name from ‘Trump’ to ‘Dunleavy’, you can see a lot of similarities in the attempted smears by the left. The never ending aberration of the truth by the left is unbelievable. Worst part is, they keep getting away with it.

  4. Nuts to think we have now had troops deployed longer to Afghanistan than we had in Vietnam…time to bring our troops home and let the country heal.
20 years of foreign intervention and thousands of GI’s killed in action is enough.
More soldiers have been killed in the “war on terror” in the last 2 decades than were killed during 9/11…
Was the price paid by our country worth it?

    • Well son, they haven’t blown up your house so what do you think? This is a different war that we fight today. You can’t thow up figures from the beginning of time, and try to make a point that is arguable today.

  5. 2010 the Trump family assisted and aided in funding and served a Christmas dinner for those in need in Atlantic city New Jersey. Donald Trump, the president was raised to work and give back by his father and he raised his children with those same values.

I have a friend who was chairing that event. She always counted on him to contact her as the time closed in to fill in any of the gaps. He was not running for office; he simply had the ability to do it and the heart to do it.

Such charity events apparently were important to the family. Just 3 minutes after he called her every gap was filled and then some extra funding for costs for every kid. That is our President.

  6. Deep-down, these soldiers must feel deeply insulted (and disgusted) to be addressed by a draft dodger. But their professionalism doesn’t allow them to show it.

A draft-dodger as President. What a sickening state of affairs.

Thankfully it will end in November.
