State DMV sets up way for people to report distasteful vehicle license plates

After license plates with possibly hidden messages started showing up in social media accounts last month (3REICH and FUHRER, for example), the Department of Administration has heard from others with concerns about license plates that may have questionable meanings.

The most recent is “JUZBAD,” which could have a number of different meanings and was reported to the department. Must Read Alaska could only find that Juzbado is the name of a town in Spain. There may be alternate meanings, including anti-semitic ones.

“Following the outcome of the review I ordered of Alaska’s personalized plate program at the DMV, the DMV began the long process of reviewing tens of thousands of personalized license plates that have been issued by the State going back as far as the Murkowski administration,” said Commissioner Kelly Tshibaka.

“In the meantime, DOA has been contacted by Alaskans who continue to find questionable plates – some of which were issued a decade or more ago.

“Alaskans can rest assured that we will find and revoke any plates that violate the rules of Alaska’s personalized license plate program. Messages that promote violence, vulgar, criminal or demeaning terms will not be tolerated,” she said.

If you have seen any personalized plates that you believe may violate the state’s policies, you may report it to the DMV at [email protected].

  1. OH PLEASE!!! JUZBAD is someone’s plate with an opinion about their personal abilities. Trying to nanny state the whole friggin society is going to result in some nasty crap happening. Nobody wants someone up in their face every 5 minutes with another thing they want to make you conform to so OTHER people feel better.

    • Bob,

While you say “Nobody wants someone up in their face every 5 minutes with another thing” some people don’t want to have obviously racist people using their state provided license plate to get up in their face every time they drive by saying things like Jews are bad, Third Reich, and Hail Hitler. These OBVIOUSLY antisemitic license plates have no place here. If you want to be a Nazi and show your support for your Nazi cause feel free to put a sticker on your truck, that’s your right…using a state sponsored licensing system to do so IS NOT your right.

      • So Frank REICH, longtime NFL star QB and coach, would not be allowed a personalized license plate in AK because YOU find his last name offensive? That’s so PC it makes the average person want to puke. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it. What happened to freedom of speech? Oh yes, only allowed when it doesn’t offend YOU. Egads, the decline and fall of western civilization because of license plates.

        • Classic strawman argument. I don’t care if Frank Reich gets an Alaskan license plate at all, fact is he isn’t and he isn’t getting one that says 3REICH.
          .
It’s really not that big of a deal, if you want to show your support for Nazis put as many stickers as you want on your ride, spray paint that you are a Nazi on it, fly a Nazi flag if you want…just don’t use a government issued license plate to show your support for Nazis.

  2. Uh, the bottom plate has my daughter’s initials. If I don’t like broccoli, ‘I don’t eat it; if I don’t like someone’s opinion I walk away; if a license plate offends, don’t look at it. What a bunch of snowflakes and strawberries.

  3. What if a conventional (non-personalized) plate is offensive? My ex had the initial D. And, my plate is EXD. So they could be offended because I got the car in the divorce. Do I now have to get new plates?

  4. If Alaska goes to a 7 character plate, I’m going to apply for BFEGYPT.
During the WW-2 N. African campaigns, there were two little towns in N.W. Egypt. One was Baum and the other was Fuka.
Fuka can be found with Google Maps. Baum apparently is only on pre-50’s maps. I suspect that our GI’s put one and one together.

  5. I really wish that we could be done with the whole vanity plate program (and “vanity” is the key word here). Apply for plates, get a set with a random alphanumeric combination, and live with it.

  6. Your republic was stolen in front of your eyes..and the media and establishment want to have you declared a terrorist, if God forbid you believe your lyin eyes… the veil in front of the financial system has been pulled down.. revealing a rigged game where the haves can never lose and the have nots are not permitted to win…you now know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, corporate and political elitists can silence, cancel, and even destroy you, for voicing an opinion counter to theirs, or simply by being the wrong political persuasion…a virus, most likely intentionally released by an adversarial global power, has been used by radicals, cynical politicians, and fear mongers, to destroy countless lives and livelihoods, above and beyond the death and destruction inherent to the illness..

..and you are worried about license plates??

Well..I think We found the problem..

    • The recent Reddit GameStop v. Hedge Funds stock battle brought this out very clearly.
Hedge funds were short selling GameStop into bankruptcy … so along comes about three million GameStop customers who banded together, buying GameStop stock, to save their favorite store.
A couple of the hedge funds went bankrupt because they couldn’t cover their bets, and the rest are trying to get legislation passed to stop the deplorables from banding together again to save whatever other favorite store they can from the vultures.
Indeed, the deck is stacked against us, but whenever we manage to understand the problem, there’s still things we can do about it.

  7. Are you freaking KIDDING me? Get the loony-liberals out of govt offices already! “JUZBAD” is a six-letter word for saying Just Bad. Whoever the snowflake is that reported it needs to get their pacifier and get back in their parents’ basement and shut up so the rest of us can go about our lives.

  8. I have nothing against personal plates, upon seeing one it gives me a idea of the person displaying their idea or belief. Take away that opportunity and I lose that heads up. These ‘look at me, look at me’ types leaves recon a TAD closer to where danger could lay in wait. So I say leave them be.

  9. I’m glad we’re finally winding down all of the other problems our state has so that we can spend some time focusing on plates that have up to 6 numbers/letters that might offend us. I mean it didn’t offend me 3 years ago, but now it offends me.

  10. Well don’t I feel better now, geeze these people need to seriously get a grip. When exactly do these people ever get a chance to go enjoy life, with their constant scanning and over analyzing anything and everything someone else is saying or doing.

  11. Be a shame if someone perused Loussac Library on Tuesdays for plates. Be more of a shame if the DMV was inundated so many requests for their funding buddies plates they have to shut down this program. People who make programs like this don’t think it through on what the others could do. We have to stop allowing these programs with half baked ideas, write to your representatives and tell them what you think about things like this.

  12. Hmmm JUZBAD so someone saying they or perhaps their vehicle is JUST BAD now has an issue for someone? Lets just hope the DMV review board can see through the offended person and see JUZBAD for what it is. JUST BAD!

  13. Triggered!!!!

    .

End the social policing now before it gets worse. The preening puritanical virtue signalling has nothing to do with actual morality.

  14. There are vanity plates that wouldnt be distasteful but displaying Ethnicity heritage and native lamguage words as language is ethnicity. Those might as well as be reported since it violates the rules, no more aleut plate, no more N8Tive. No more Aang.

  15. I think they need to have a child friendly hotline so that children can also report their parents to the bureaucracy. And it shouldn’t be limited to just questionable license plates but should also include any activities that might require parents being sent to a re-education camp. We must have “right think” in America. Unity in thought and action as determined by the Left is necessary. Freedom and liberty by the individual is so old school.

    • Oh wow, are you serious?
What you are implying here is similar to Nazi concentration camps because of a person’s religion. Include and activities that you do not agree with. Who will determine what is and is not acceptable?
Let start with the Democratic party they have become nothing more than a bunch of bullies

    • You are being facetious. Democrat voters should wear a sign: “handle me with care, i am highly sensitive. Dont criticize me so harshly, I dont handle honesty well.” Hahaha

  16. Maybe they should be required to wear a large snowflake on their outer clothing to easily identify them so we all know to always just smile and say nothing even remotely offensive (or true) in their presence. It’s not like we would use that as an identifier to put them in camps like they want to do to us.

  17. The progressives are far beyond bullies now. They are national fascist tyrants who openly discuss their plans for re-education centers and elimination of those opposing them, instead of hiding the rhetoric inside clever talking points.. We’re looking at some interesting times in the near future.

      • “… characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy…” sound familiar? Is this a direct AOC quote or dictionary definition? Are you paid directly or do you just get your jollies by being part of the progressive disinformation campaign? If you are not fully indoctrinated, I suggest that you read the writings of Yuri Bezemov, a former KGB who turned to lecturer in the US. The First Amendment protects your right to free speech, for now, even if it is foolish uninformed babble.

        • Looking to me like your bathroom is breeding Bolsheviks there AK. And you left of a most important part of that definition, namely:
“Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism[1][2” Heheh! Are you always this shifty?

Fascism, political ideology and mass movement that dominated many parts of central, southern, and eastern Europe between 1919 and 1945 and that also had adherents in western Europe, the United States, South Africa, Japan, Latin America, and the Middle East. Europe’s first fascist leader, Benito Mussolini, took the name of his party from the Latin word fasces, which referred to a bundle of elm or birch rods (usually containing an ax) used as a symbol of penal authority in ancient Rome. Although fascist parties and movements differed significantly from one another, they had many characteristics in common, including extreme militaristic nationalism, contempt for electoral democracy and political and cultural liberalism, a belief in natural social hierarchy and the rule of elites, and the desire to create a Volksgemeinschaft (German: “people’s community”), in which individual interests would be subordinated to the good of the nation. At the end of World War II, the major European fascist parties were broken up, and in some countries (such as Italy and West Germany) they were officially banned. Beginning in the late 1940s, however, many fascist-oriented parties and movements were founded in Europe as well as in Latin America and South Africa. Although some European “neofascist” groups attracted large followings, especially in Italy and France, none were as influential as the major fascist parties of the interwar period.
            Note the word LIBERALISM!.
Webster and Dictionary provide the same, which I could post.
Of course, centrist Bing of centrist Microsoft that blocks republican donations throws in the phrase ‘right wing’. I expect nothing less of progressive liars.

          • I see a burr gets under your saddle whenever you get caught posting BS. Then you attempt to inundate us with more BS. That quote I posted is the beginning of Wikipedia’s definition that you left off with your exact quote without that beginning. Tough noogies to a shifty ideologist. Heheh!

          • Oh…Wikipedia-another outlet known for it’s left wing bias. Just face the fact that “Repeat a lie a thousand times and it becomes the truth” is a propaganda method used by Goebbels in the past and left wing outlets today. I thought (foolish me) that perhaps a history of the word ‘Fascist’ might enlighten and therefore posted that over subjective definitions form other sources. Foolish me. When you wrestle with a pig you both get dirty, and after a while you finally figure out that the pig enjoys it. At what point do you progressives go full Robespierre and declare us in Year 0?

          • AK here is Wikipedia definition: “Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism[1][2] characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy[3]…” Don’t look now but your initial post took “characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy” the exact quote with the exception of the initial bit about it being far-right authoritarian, etc. etc. I’ll again say you are nothing but a liar here and are going through some pretty weird contortions to hide it. Tough noogies AK.

          • The quote came from Duckduckgo not referenced further. But from a progressive fascist I expect nothing less than manipulation of words. Orwell warned us of this and Bezmenov affirmed how ‘useful idiots’ would manipulate propaganda against us. Goebbels must be smiling over todays’ media.

          • Again AK, you can see your quote word for word in Wikipedia and yet you continue to lie about it. You apparently have no shame. Tough noogies to you.

          • One morning you might awaken to reflect upon your blind progressive zealotry and realize that life if short and liberty is the greatest gift to which we are endowed. You might even choose to open your eyes to study the likes of John Stuart Mill and many great philosophers on freedom. Or you can continue to scream in the faces of others with whom you might disagree and remain a progressive fanatic. I pity you.

  18. Would get a bigger bang for the buck if the State set up a hot line for rude, obnoxious & incompetent DMV workers!

  19. A so called “hobby” of mine is trying to decipher “vanity plates”. I have a vanity plate that is obvious to me but, someone, a close friend, spent a lot of time looking at it before finally asking me to explain it to them. Now, there are several bumper stickers on my car that are big hints as to what my plate says, and my friends, except for this one, knew it right off but he didn’t. I don’t believe that offensive plates should be allowed and I am going to assume( yes I do know what that means) that the plate that says Musher is not going to be banned. Not when there are plates that describe sex acts, in Latin, are not banned in this state.
