Oops! State voter guide lists Republican candidate as a Democrat

25

The Division of Elections voter guide that was mailed to all voters has Republican Mia Costello, who is running for State House District 15 in Anchorage, listed as a Democrat.

She is a Republican.

On page 69 of the voter guide, where it has the candidate biography, Costello is listed as a Republican, but on page 19 where she is grouped with the others in the race, she is listed as a Democrat. That makes three “Democrats” in the race, including Dustin Darden and Denny Wells.

It’s the second big mistake by the Division of Elections in this cycle. Earlier, the division put out a guide to voting the ranked-choice ballot and instructed voters to mark “Harris” first for president.

Costello served in the House and in the Senate — always as a solid Republican.

The mistake is in part a result of ranked-choice voting. Now, instead of one Republican and one Democrat advancing to the general election ballot, there can be numerous candidates from one party or another on the November ballot, which leads to increased confusion and possible errors, even on behalf of Division of Elections staff.

The online version of the voter guide has been corrected.

  1. What, another in a growing list of aw shucks mess-ups which prove beyond doubt Division of Elections apparatchiki are actually this stupid, this incompetent all the time?
    .
Or is this yet another clue in a growing list of clues about what the DOE mob may be planning for the November 5 election?
    .
Misidentified candidates, duplicate mail-in ballots, voter-roll integrity farmed out to a radical left nonprofit, RCV which no election “observer” can credibly observe, RCV without a ballot chain of custody, vote-tabulation gear running on proprietary software which no “observer” can forensically verify, what could possibly go wrong?
    .
Duplicate ballots, misidentified candidates, are these just mistakes or might they be a trial run of sorts to get things properly calibrated, pre-counted if you will, before November 5?
    .
Who knows how their vote-tabulation gear, running on proprietary software, might have been trained (accidentally, of course) to count R’s versus D’s?
    .
You’d think, with our America’s future hanging by the proverbial thread, Alaska’s Division of Elections leadership might be forthcoming with verifiable assurances.
    .
    But they’re not.
    .
    Wonder why…

  2. The arrogant director of this agency should pay for these remarkable “errors” with her sinecure. Enough is enough.

  3. Maybe Costello should sue the Division of Elections. The DOE has become so careless! “Oops! A mistake. My bad. Sorry!” They need to be held accountable. Lt. Gov. Dahlstrom needs to be held accountable. Gov. Dunleavy needs to be held accountable.

  4. What’s the difference… It’s all Coke and Pepsi anyway… What ever happened to None Of The Above ???

  5. What has this country come to if the revelation that Trump secretly sent COVID testing machines to Putin while thousands of Americans were dying, in part because of a shortage of testing machines here, doesn’t disqualify him to be President?

    • That comment is part of the book “War” by Bob Woodward. He uses an unnamed source as his source. You should not believe an unnamed source. This is Woodward’s attempt to resurrect “russiagate”, which has been proven to be false and paid fir by Hillary and the DNC.

  6. Never attribute stupidity that which is adequately explained by malice. These are not mistakes. Rather malicious election meddling carefully crafted to look like incompetence.

  7. As more and more hires are based solely on anything except qualifications and merit. Our society, as reactionary as it already is. Will be forced to stamp out all these little fires time and time again.
Remember…… don’t sit in the emergency exit seat on your next flight.

  8. Unbelievable. First the bizarre instructions for rigged choice voting ranking the name Harris first, now this? What is going on?! This will have detrimental effects as there are people that will look for the political party before marking the box.

  9. The incompetent Carol Beecher and Michaela Thompson both need to resign. And that is just a good start, the entire division of elections needs to be investigated for corruption. Right Nancy Dahlstrom?

    • Carol Beecher’s name sure is coming up a lot lately! Would love to see the list of requests/emails that she is ignoring these days! I wonder how much money she has received to let things go?

  10. Interesting that all these “oopsies” only go one direction, that of damaging the Republican candidate. I’m sure that’s not a mistake (/sarc). Cheers –
