Michael Tavoliero: The crime and tragedy of passive grooming and indoctrination

By MICHAEL TAVOLIERO

“In the course of human events there have always been those who deny or reject human freedom, but Americans will never falter in defending the fundamental truths of human liberty proclaimed on July 4, 1776. We will — we must— always hold these truths.”  The President’s Advisory 1776 Commission, January 2021

These truths are especially meaningful when it comes to the protection, nurturing, and instruction of our children as we prepare them to take our place in what will hopefully be a better future and a better lifestyle than our own. That said, over the last decade I have become increasingly skeptical of this outcome.

I’m not an attorney, yet I can’t help but ask questions.

Are the Anchorage School District (ASD) board members, its superintendent, the unnamed library association, and those staff accountable for the procurement and placement of the book, “Gender Queer”?

What other books, which by intentional design move to sexually groom and indoctrinate Anchorage’s children for future exploitation, are on the shelves at Anchorage public schools?

Are those people criminally culpable in their breach of custody and subsequent unlawful exploitation of the 43,500 plus students in the Anchorage School District?

What’s really the difference between an adult sexual predator and an adult in the school district knowingly placing visual and aural material within the reach of minors?

Both are intended to groom and indoctrinate children for future sexual exploitation, and once sufficiently groomed, to prey on them.  This has happened in the past with ASD and other Anchorage schools.

Is this an attempt to make it legal, or at least culturally acceptable?

Alaska Statutes 11.41.436 and 11.41.455 describe the circumstances that define the felony of unlawful exploitation of a minor:

AS 11.41.436:

(a) An offender commits the crime of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree if…

(4) being 16 years of age or older, the offender aids, induces, causes, or encourages a person who is under 16 years of age to engage in conduct described in AS 11.41.455 (a)(2) – (6);

*and* the offender occupies a position of authority in relation to the victim.

Alaska Statute 11.41.455 graphically describes the kinds of sexual activities the minor may be induced into performing by the exploitative adult who is grooming them.  As we know, the process of grooming a child for future exploitation begins slowly, the perpetrator often starting by showing the child pornographic materials.

How is this different from the adults within the school district providing our children with easily accessible pornographic materials?

These people are effectively babysitting our children.

How would you feel if you found out that the babysitter you left your children with one the evening had been showing them pornographic and sexually explicit materials while you were out to dinner?

Of course, this begs the question, are there other sexually explicit and pornographic books and materials now being shipped to the Anchorage School District libraries and classrooms?

Who is ordering these?

Why would an adult, someone who is in a position of authority in the eyes of the children, want to subject young people to these materials?

The AS 11.41.370 further provides that a parent, legal guardian, or person having custody or control of a child under 18 years of age commits the crime of unlawful exploitation of a minor if, in the state, the person permits the child to engage in conduct described in this section knowing that the conduct is intended to be used in producing the material that visually or aurally depicts the conduct.

You be the judge.

Suzanne Downing, editor of Must Read Alaska, showed pages from the book in her Nov. 13, 2021 article, “Anchorage Schools Remove ‘Gender Queer’ Graphic Memoir From School Shelves”.

I bought the book from Amazon and reviewed it. While it could be termed as a “coming of age” memoir, I cannot agree that this book should be placed in front of minors as reading material in the schools.

In my opinion, the comic book format is a clandestine way of spreading sexual content to underage children.

Superintendent Deena Bishop responded to the article with what can be best described as an apathetic and dismissive memo posted on the ASD website.

The book was in a “batch” of “award-winning” books, she said.

What is striking is her total lack of curiosity as to what in her procurement system resulted in this purchase.

Why is she not outraged and angry?

Why is she not demanding answers?

Why is she not requiring her staff to thoroughly vet and review all “batches” of books coming into the school system for appropriate subject content?

Per Superintendent Bishop’s Nov. 15, 2021, memo to the public, the ASD Teaching and Learning Department is the department that reviewed and removed of the book.  She details casually the circumstances surrounding the book’s journey to the ASD.

From the ASD website, the Teaching and Learning Department is the authority in curriculum. Per website, it is responsible for “the alignment of curriculum across academic services to support equitable, high quality instruction within a multi-tiered system of supports.”

Who are the members of ASD Teaching and Learning Department?

Was this department ultimately responsible for the purchase of this book as part of a library association’s “award winning” package of books?

Were there others involved?

Where are the records identifying the purchase of this book and others with the complete list of books from “a library association’s award winning” package of books”?

Into which school library (or libraries) was this book installed?

Who in the ASD library system distributed this book to its final destination?

Was there a review of this book before it was put into circulation?

What is the name of the library association and what is the length and depth of its relationship to ASD?

And perhaps what is most discouraging and disappointing, where are the responses of the Anchorage clergy and churches?

Dear leaders and acolytes who lead Anchorage’s religious communities, are you aware of what happened?

Are you curious in finding out the truth?

Where is the moral outrage to this crime perpetrated on the entirety of the children attending the ASD schools?

I grew up in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, when Catcher in the Rye, Catch 22, The Painted Bird, and other novels were continually subjected to bans.  I do not support censorship. Hey, I went to Woodstock.

And yes, I accuse any adult who intentionally places these materials in the hands of our children, our most precious asset, of committing an egregious and unforgivable crime.  These people will get away with this and more if we don’t apply the law and statutes to them now.

When public funds are used for the grooming and indoctrination of children for sexual exploitation, beyond the scope of what true education must be in Alaska, I just can’t buy it.

Can you?

  1. Another brilliant post from Mr. Tavoliero. Where is the outrage from our elected officials who are supposed to be protecting our children. Wake up governor!

    • Wake up school boards! This is not the governor’s fault. Look to your principals and start watching at your local school levels. Parents be active in your children’s school and be in the know of what is being thrown at your children. Pay close attention as this is ultimately your responsibility to the babies you made and birthed!

    • Would be interesting if Mr. Tavoliero ran for US House against Don Young, the corrupt old pirate who claims to have been representing Alaska for 50 years. And Tavoliero could win.
There’s a history lesson embedded in this:
US Speaker of the House, Tom Foley, was elected from the Spokane area in 1965 and served in Congress for 30 years. He was Speaker for several terms. Spokane is fairly Conservative. Foley was a Democrat. Along comes a Republican up-start, George Nethercutt, who beats him in 1994. First time a Speaker lost his seat since 1865.
Yes, Michael Tavoliero could beat the old fossil, Don Young.

  2. Right on the money, amen to this article and thanks for saying what is on a lot of peoples minds. Unfortunately the enemy is within the gates due to our apathy, which is the downfall of all decent civilizations.

  3. Good grief, here we go again. When will this kind of hyperbolic idiocy end?

“What’s really the difference between an adult sexual predator and an adult in the school district knowingly placing visual and aural material within the reach of minors?”

This is an egregious, and simple minded comparison between someone who actively stalks, subdues, intimidates, and violates his victims and someone or some agency that is offering information, often hard to find, to individuals that gives them the chance to explore their feelings in a safe environment. It’s not like “Gender Queer” is advocating for any particular sexuality. It is revealing that there are possibilities that exist about which young adults (and when you hit puberty, you are physically more adult that child) most likely have little knowledge or experience.

We’re not talking about full blown, violent, sexploitation porn, which I find reprehensible (in case you were wondering), we’re talking about a book that can help young people figure out who they are, and that it’s OK to be who they are. That is, unless you feel that homosexuality or gender confusion are sins against God and humanity, in which case, please read no further.

I hope it isn’t necessary to point out that Alaska is ground zero for sexual exploitation of people of all ages, and that most exploitation of children is perpetrated by adults who the children know, are related to, and oftentimes live with. That’s the real crime in this state, not some book that someone thinks is going to provoke criminal thoughts in kids just because they have read it. Makes me wonder what’s going on in that person’s mind.

Let me ask this question, “Are you against the teaching of sex education in public schools? If so, why?” And don’t give me the lame answer that it’s the responsibility of parents. How many parents are comfortable doing that? Mine weren’t. My mother gave me a book that explained how things worked. There were pictures. The book was well written and informative and not the least bit salacious. My first reaction was “EEW!” My second reaction was, “God must have a strange sense of humor.” I didn’t turn into a sexual pervert or exploiter. Neither did my sister.

So let’s put this lame excuse for censorship to rest for good. This seems to crop up every few years and it’s getting tiresome. We know that reading does not turn people into perverts. We know that kids learn from their parents, or whoever their caregivers, good or bad, may be, or whoever the authority figures are in their lives. That’s the real problem. That’s what needs solving.

    • The goal of the homosexual community is to silence heterosexuals through intimidation and threats. When heterosexuals wake-up to the true agenda of homosexuals, there will be a real uprising and reversal of this trend. The Laws of Nature will trump the Anomalies of the Weird and Mentally Insane.

        • “Conquering America” is the LGBTQ slogan and mantra. They said it, and they published it. They even published that they’re coming after our children. The “Drag Queen Story Hour” in our libraries underscores this. They are aggressively militant and even physically violent about it.
The 5.6 % claim that the tail is entitled to wag the dog.
What Mary said about the homosexual community is entirely true. What she said about the laws of nature trumping the anomalies though is probably wishful thinking.

    • Keep pounding that square peg in that round hole (maybe try some lube), but don’t try to sell it as sex education based in any kind of science, it isn’t. #itsprocreationnotpleasure

    • You need to reach over and grab the third rail of Alaska sexual and racial politics and give some consideration to where most of that sexual abuse you refer to occurs.

      • Uhhh, that would be:
        .
        BYRON MALLOT
        .
        Gone, but not forgotten.
        .
And we won’t let The disgraced, corrupt Bill Walker forget it, either.

      • Yup. And it’s not a pretty sight. So, does that make it OK? And if it’s not, what’s the solution?
We keep going around this Merry-Go-Round without making any progress. Seems like keeping on doing the same thing over and over again is…well, you get my drift. Even if you don’t agree.

    • “…simple minded comparison between someone who actively stalks, subdues, intimidates, and violates his victims and someone or some agency that is offering information…”

What keeps me from agreeing with Homo is that our children are not just being given information, but much of that information is being hidden from the parents. Teachers even go to the extreme of claiming that they’re much better qualified as to what our children should be taught. They even accuse parents of being domestic terrorists whenever they show up at a school board meeting to voice any objections.

Bottom line Homo is that what you’re saying sounds good on the surface, but it’s false equivalency. It doesn’t pass the smell test.

By the way Homo, I’m not writing this to persuade you of your error. This is to warn others of your propensity to warp logic and evade common sense.

      • “Teachers even go to the extreme of claiming that they’re much better qualified as to what our children should be taught.” OF COURSE THEY ARE! They have four years of college and years of experience behind them. They are professionals. They know how and what to teach.

You would be fool to make that claim about your car mechanic or your surgeon, right?

        • Four years of any college which has been infiltrated by Marxism indoctrination creates highly educated persons with an agenda which is diametrically opposed to American values.

The most important goal of Marxism is to first break the family unit and stand in it’s place. That’s what these woke teachers are doing, breaking the family unit, and replacing it with the surrogate parent state.

A hundred years of college is no substitute for common sense and the stability which family values bring to America.

          • OMG! The Marxist card. Just exactly how does Marxism have anything whatsoever to do with public school education? The one thing that seems to make the most progress in a child’s education is having the family unit on board with the schools.

          • Josephj – “family values” is as nebulous as terms like “balance” and “common sense”. But in the context of MRAK, we know what you mean: white, conservative, male-dominated, and of course super Christian. Maybe Christian first, everything else second.

          • Evan: I’m Yupik-Norwegan-German by heritage. I most certainly can’t be a “white, conservative, male-dominated, and of course super Christian.”
While I believe in the Judo-Christian Creator, I am neither Jewish nor Christian.

      • Sorry, but if we are going to wait for parents to give their kids the information they need to keep from getting their girlfriends, or whomever, pregnant, it’ll be a warm day in Alaska in winter.
There’s the saying, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” Until sex education is widely and accurately taught somewhere, there’s gonna be a lot of underage procreation going on, and all the platitudes about abstinence and saving yourself for marriage are not gonna cut the mustard.
People who threateningly disrupt public meetings are on the low end of the terrorist scale. There are appropriate mechanisms for expressing one’s opinion, but shouting down and bullying are not ones that can be tolerated.
My logic might be warped, because a lot of what get’s talked about here is not based on logic but on emotions, but I can tell you that common sense is that which tells you the earth is flat.

        • “People who threateningly disrupt public meetings are on the low end of the terrorist scale. “. I like that. Sure makes me think of the spitters at the Anchorage Assembly.

        • “…all the platitudes about abstinence and saving yourself for marriage are not gonna cut the mustard.”
Used to be the American standard, and if the youngsters got careless, they were encouraged to marry.
Used to be that family was the center of gravity. Stable families made for a stable America.
Used to be … don’t you remember? Of course you do. It’s just that you’re supporting an agenda which you consider more important than a stable America.

  4. Well said Michael, and while this is a particularly egregious example, the phenomenon is not new. In about 1995, two books were placed in school libraries across Alaska and other states – “King and King”, and “Heather Has Two Mommies” – intended to reduce opposition to the gay lifestyle, reduce bullying, and normalize by desensitization. At the time, I was working as a school custodian, and the principal – knowing that I’m a minister – left the books out for me to throw away, which I did. The school district librarian came in the next week bringing more copies and demanding they be placed on the library shelves “as a district-wide requirement”. Who is behind all this? Why are they grooming our children? There are no good answers, only evil. BTW, “Catcher In The Rye” was required reading in my high school… fifty years ago. Schools have our kids ~30 hours per week. Screen time ~40 hours per week. Churches? Maybe 2 hours… The churches do need to stand up, but we can’t do it without PARENTS.

  5. US Congressman Michael Tavoliero. I’m onboard. Where do I send my campaign donation? Michael would go down in Alaska history as the slayer of Don Young. Incubated right here at MRAK

    • Mr. Tavoliero has my vote, should he decided to run for US House of Representatives. I see him as a formidable candidate against Don Young and a Conservative asset to Congress next year when the Republicans are going to kick the Democrats a$$es, much like in 1994. Mr. Tavoliero, we are waiting!

  6. There are two kinds of comments I find really annoying.

One is when someone posts a wall of Bible verses with no attempt to link it in a tangible way to the topic.

The other is when somebody posts “progressive” talking points with the air of “I’m smarter than you are because I’m progressive. The rest of you are uninformed troglodytes”.

Neither are effective debating strategies. But they do provide a useful insight to the poster. I have no valid argument, so I’ll wall of text them to death.

  7. “……..Who is ordering these?……..”
Thank you for the obvious question. It needs to be answered, and that person or persons need to justify their decision.

“Leaked Audio Reveals How California Teachers Recruit Kids Into LGBTQ Clubs”
    By Brad Jones
    November 20, 2021 Updated: November 20, 2021

Excerpt – ““The overarching theme of the classes that I attended were California Teachers instructing other teachers on how to sneak in the LGBTQ+ curriculum in a manner that does not alert parents,” Murphy said.
Caldeira and Baraki led a workshop called “How we run a ‘GSA’ in Conservative Communities,” and they described the obstacles they faced as activist teachers in concealing the activities of these clubs from parents.
In the audio clip, Caldeira advised teachers who lead LGBTQ clubs to maintain an air of plausible deniability so they can play dumb if they are questioned by parents.
“Because we are not official, we have no club rosters. We keep no records,” said Caldeira, who is also an LGBTQ club leader. “In fact, sometimes we don’t really want to keep records because if parents get upset that their kids are coming? We’re like, ‘Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe they came?’ You know, we would never want a kid to get in trouble for attending if their parents are upset.”
Baraki backed up Caldeira’s advice, suggesting activist teachers to disguise the nature of GSA clubs by calling them something less obvious. Baraki provided an example of this deception, pointing out she avoided naming her LGBTQ club a GSA. Instead, she called it the “Equity Club” and later changed the name to the “You Be You” club.
The teachers bragged about spying on students’ online searches and activity as well as eavesdropping on their conversations to identify and recruit sixth-grade students into these LGBTQ clubs whose membership rolls are kept hidden from parents.”

  9. Respectfully suggest, Michael T., that your thoughtful essay be refined into a petition for a grand jury investigation and presented to Attorney General Treg R.Taylor,

    • I got $1000 to whomever wants to kick off the lawsuit. Good is either advancing or retreating. There’s no middle ground.
Art Chance – whaa? Speak plainly please.

    • He was just taking photos for journalism class. Go Michael!!
US Congressman from Alaska in 2022.
Bump off Don Young and become a hero …….to the Right and the Left.

      • THC from marijuana then was about 1/4 the strength of today’s pot. The old hippies and radicals of the 60’s are so pinned-down with medical marijuana today, they don’t even know what Woodstock was, unless you show them photos. At least Tavoliero is an honest dude.
        Got my vote.

  10. ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!! Not only in Anchorage, but also in Fairbanks. I have begun the fight against this tragic abhorrent action by our school board(that’s where the buck stops). I have charged them with stopping this sickness at the behest of our teachers who choose to be unnamed, as they are the ones requesting this garbage. Of course they want to remain annonymous, they are sexual predators!!! So here we go. Will they claim I am a terrorist? We’ll see.

  11. Thank you for the article and raising awareness of this perverse attempt at indoctrinating our youth. It’s not surprising that the Superintendent, an apparent progressive, isn’t curious and is dismissive. I got a load of blarney when asking (via email) about wether the district was teaching CRT to the kids. She stated that it is not being taught, but when I queried her as to why then the suggested reading list for district staff was a who’s who of CRT related authors, Or correspondence came to an end. This district needs to be investigated and the libraries might be a logical place to start.

    • Thank you, Tony. In my opinion, we have laws that may be broken. If this is a potential, shouldn’t the State AG be looking into this? If the facts fit then shouldn’t there be a formal investigation?

The Left would surely be using all the tools the state has if the shoe was on the other foot.

This is not just some random act of grooming a child in preparation of exploitation. This may be a methodical pattern of influencing an entire student population through literature disguised as educational.

This has nothing to do with censorship or book banning. Indeed, this book and thousands of others like them are available to the public at their own cost.

My bone with this is public money used to exploit minors. Can any of us in our right mind condone this?

If parents, the churches and the rest of the concerned community are not involved, my contention is this may be one of the most avoidable social tragedies of this century.

      • Michael: Commenter Jefferson has the market on over-the-top overstatement! When you say “one of the most avoidable social tragedies of this century”, you’re competing with a smart, witty and erudite fellow (you probably think I’m being facetious, but I’m not). Be careful

  12. MT… working hard to build a base. To make it to the US House. To make it to a lifetime of health and pension benefits courtesy of AK taxpayers. Just a grifter
