Listicle: Alaska is No. 1 in smoking pot in fed’s survey

STATES WITH HIGH POT USE ARE LEAST RELIGIOUS

Alaskans smoke the most weed per capita in America, with 16.29 percent of the population admitting to using pot in the past year.

That’s over 119,000 Alaskans consuming cannabis, if the numbers from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration are to be believed. Or one out of every seven man, woman, and child in Alaska.

Vermont comes in a close second at 16%, followed by Colorado at 15%.

All of the states on the list of “highest number of users” are either in the West or are in the northern part of the country.

The rest of the top states:

  • 4. New Hampshire: 14.88%
  • 5. Massachusetts: 14.55%
  • 6. Oregon: 14.44%

  1. For being a “low religion” state, there are sure alot of churches on the Kenai Penninsula. And alot of marijuana stores too.

  2. WOW, we finally made the Top of the List in at least one category. Maybe we could leverage into something positive – useful? … Second thought, maybe not!

  3. I am confident that the marijuana use will go down over time – after all, production is only now ramping up. (Gosh, those statements seem inconsistent…… Might have some connection to the doobie I smoked last night…. Naaaaaa)

    • I’d wager a bet that more Alaskans hold libertarian views than democratic or republican views, there is no doubt that we hold more libertarian views than Democratic or Republican views. The big D and big R views are a lot different than the little d and little r views.

  4. Interesting correlation between pot and religion. I thought Alaska was higher on the religion list. Wonder if that’s changed.

  5. Small wonder We lead the Nation in smoking pot. Since the mid 70’s pot has been some kind of legal in Alaska.
The irony of the story is one would think the pot-smoking states would lead the Nation in obesity. Not so, the opposite is true, all the God fearing states listed, are the porkers. In fact most of the leading pot-consuming states, are the leanest states, with the pot mecca state of Colorado leading the nation in fitness. Lord works in mysterious ways.

  6. Alaskans should read the recently published book: “Tell Your Children” by Alex Berenson. It tells the truth about marijuana, mental illness and violence.

  7. Yep, AK has more stoner red necks than any other state. This is not a very well kept secret. I love my redneck stoner MAGA friends here in Homer, all ready to do battle. Some even drive around with stupid flags flying from the mast. They even go to church, every Sunday. God provides as they say. Now, Anchor point….

  8. That’s why I voted for Governor Dunleavy. The man is a principled constitutional libertarian in everything but name.

  9. Nearly half of those 119,000 signed the recall petition. The other half didn’t know Dunleavy was the governor. The trick is too keep the Democrats really loaded on election day.
