When a citizen visits APD’s “News & Information” page, they will find information on the latest traffic fatalities, the newest safety programs, updates about missing persons, current arrests and warrants, and critical incident summaries. However, to find the homicide reports, citizens must click “View All” to see the homicide report listings among the current press releases.
Double Chicago’s Homicide Rate for Oct 2025
There have been 7 homicide reports released by APD this month. 7 murders in a population of 289,600 equals a homicide rate for Oct 2025 double that of Chicago. Chicago is home to 2,721,308 people and has suffered 26 murders this month. While approximately 1 murder per 100,000 people occurred in Chicago this month, approximately 2 murders per 100,000 people occurred in Anchorage.
The 7 Reports
On Oct 1, APD released a homicide report about the murder of Jason Ayojiak, who was attacked on July 7 near the Arby’s at 2850 C St. He was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on July 10. According to the report: “The investigation remains ongoing; no charges have been filed.” APD took nearly three months to publicly report the injustice perpetrated against Jason and his friends and family. Today, nearly another month after the report, justice has yet to be rendered.
On Oct 12, APD reported that 18-year-old Gera Levi died at the hospital following a violent attack on Oct 11. The attack occurred at the intersection of Richmond Ave and Taylor St in the Mountain View neighborhood. No charges have been filed.
Three days later, near the Circle K at 3500 C St, Charles Jackson, Jr was found dead on scene from a gunshot wound to his upper body. On the same day, Oct 15, APD charged Joshua Gibbs with Murder 2, Felon in Possession and Assault 3. Gibbs was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on his charges. The next day, the charges were updated to Murder 1, one count of Murder 2 and one count of Felon in Possession.
Three homicide reports followed only two days later. On Oct 17, an adult male and an adult female were found dead on scene near the American Red Cross at the intersection of Cordova St and 8th. The next day, Mario Jackson was remanded to Anchorage Jail on 2 counts of Murder I and 2 counts of Murder II. An unrelated stabbing occurred on Oct 17 at the 200 Block of Fiddlehead Place. An adult female was viciously attacked and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. This homicide is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
Just this past Monday, Oct 20, an adult male suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and was declared dead at the hospital. The shooting took place at the Midtown Walmart. This homicide is also under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
Not a desireable statistic to have in common with Chitcago. But not a surprise given they are run the same, by the same types.

I do not know where you got “less than 5 homicides this month”. I certainly never claimed that. Feel free to check my sources (which are hyperlinked) and my math. Providing honest, accurate information is a high priority for me as a writer.

Chicago has 2,721,308 residents divide that by 26 murders = one murder per every 104,665th residents.
So there are clearly more murders in this town per POPULATION density than in Chicago, as the article pointed out.

Do you know what “rate” means? It’s not the same as total number. Seven murders in a city this size is shocking.
Anchorage is a sh_thole, no doubt about it. The statistics show there is little law enforcement, and you can thank the Anchorage administration, including the assembly and police department, for that.
There is more then a little Law Enforcement just look at the number of APD cars on the Glenn Highway. I know it is two different Divisions but if you have an increasing amount of violent offenses than shift resources from one to another. A Police Officer is a Police Officer there should be no difference between job descriptions. That is basic administration oversight which this administration in office right now has none. Anchorage gets what it elects just like any other Blue city or State. Remember elections have consequences.
If anyone had the backbone within the MOA, they would dig deeper to find the real numbers of homicides. Solved & unsolved. Of course the numbers are manipulated. This would have to include all races & nationalities. Pull back the curtain and tell us exactly what the numbers are. If not we are just chasing unicorns.

As a retired APD employee, nothing against the current Chief, however, Beanca was the best choice. She was Sgt of Homicide for years and then Capt of Detectives, worked her way through the ranks for decades, most of retirees think she should have stayed then perhaps we wouldn’t have some of these troubles

National Guard troops on the streets would be a very bad look for Anchorage Assembly and the Mayor.
They need to keep this under Trumps radar as it seems like He is the only one concerned about public safety in Democrat operated “war zones”.

If your Police Department is UNIONIZED, a “That’s not part of my Job Classification,” is in play. Picking up dead bodies around town is the job of Uniformed Police Officers, and the Meat Wagon. Finding the killers is up to the Detectives. Remember the Uvalde School Massacre. Hundreds of Armed Police Officers standing in the hall, while the Killer kept Killing, as the Hallway Police said, “That’s not my Job Classification.” A Unionized Police Force is a Bueracacy. I am not remorseful. This is an opportunity for the radical leftists in the assembly to show how truly inept they are. They don’t have any conservatives or republicans to blame their failures on. No excuses, only exposure.
Keep in mind, the assembly loves criminality in the streets because it keeps the attention away from their criminality in office.

An interesting observation: I am downtown everyday. During the summit with Putin.the city could or would do nothing about cleaning up the homelessness.
. Yet during AFN there were no homeless to be found around the Egan center or the Performing Arts Center. This begs asking why?it could be that the homeless we’re embarrassed to be seen by people from their villages and voluntarily relocated themselves or they could have been pushed out by authorities which is it?
