The former communication director for Gov. Bill Walker has a new gig and a new scene: Grace Jang starts next week as the communications director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

Jang was a television news anchor up until the 2014 General Election, when she jumped over to become the communication director for Walker. Later, she also took on the title of deputy chief of staff. She is a close associate of Scott Kendall, Walker’s former chief of staff who is leading the recall campaign against Gov. Michael Dunleavy.

Murkowski’s chairmanship of the Senate Natural Resources Committee ends in one year. Thus, the communication job has a shelf life of up to 12 months, as a new chairman will bring in his or her own staff.

As a Bill Walker alumnus, Jang opened up a communications consultancy focused on crisis communications.

The job she takes in Washington pays unusually well, over $171,000 per year. The most recent communication director for the committee was Nicole Daigle, who left in May of 2019. Robert Dillon, longtime Alaska journalist, held the position prior to Daigle.

Jang handled the meltdown of the Walker Administration. As journalists started asking too many questions, she asked them to back off and give the administration time to grieve after the resignation of Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott.

Her crisis communication skills may come in handy in Washington during the coming election year, when a lot of turmoil is brewing, although Murkowski herself is not up for reelection until 2022.

LISA MURKOWSKI, DONALD TRUMP IN THE HEADLINES

A Washington Post White House reporter quoted President Donald Trump at a GOP event in Washington at the Trump International Hotel on Thursday.

Trump asked if Sen. Lisa Murkowski was there, but she was not.

“She hates me. I kind of like her but she really doesn’t like me. We do so much for Alaska you’d think we’d get her vote for something one of these days,” the president told the crowded ballroom.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has given the President some advice about surviving a Senate trial, according to Fox News’ Ed Henry:

“Forget about Ukraine. Talk to Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska, McConnell said, about her energy plan, instead of talking about Ukraine. Make her important on these issues. And stop talking about Ukraine. Focus on policy. She’s a swing vote. Somebody who could turn against the president. She was a swing vote on Kavanaugh.”

  1. “Daddy’s Little Princess” has a nasty habit of swinging to the left most of the time on important votes.

  2. Hope and hope Murkowski is out the door in the next election. Recall should be on her, not Dunleavy!! Now, we have the loser person in communications from the Walker team doing damage.. What next with Murkowski?

  3. Lisa’s path down the Dark Side is now nearing completion… I wonder if she has enough self awareness to see that her friends have changed? In her position there are always many sycophants. But does she recognuze that the folks she used to count on are no longer around and no longer call?

  4. Our Senior Senator seems to work everyday at finding new ways of making it more difficult to continue to support her…..she has a great position to address many of Alaska’s needs but seems to want only to bite the hands that are there to help her get the jobs done…

  5. Gracie didn’t do much of a job communicating to Alaskans the extent of Byron Mallott’s involvement in child sex abuse and cover-up. She should fit the standard if covering for Murkowski’s ineptness too.

  6. Grace Jang will be the voice of Lisa as she continues her tacking to the left. Don’t look for significant press releases from Grace.

  7. The people of Alaska-had two good chances to oust Lisa. Primarily these efforts failed because conservatives, or rather “republicans” were not willing to go against the establishment and elect an outsider.

    How’d that work out?

My guess is, there’s a good chance that happens again, and the establishment voter clings to the establishment candidate and between that and the democrats, she wins again. She may be corrupt- but she’s not an idiot. She knows this and will vote and act, accordingly.

  8. Pretty pathetic! Murkowski has an overall 34% of conservative voting record for her time in office as a Senator, under the pretension of being a conservative Republican, so this shouldn’t be any different in news of the type of people she hires.

  9. All of the liberal and RINO stuff aside, Grace isn’t even that good. She couldn’t even muster anything more than “keep moving, nothing to see here” in the crumbling of a sitting Governor’s administration! As the Governor’s Communications Director she should have certainly done better than that. Perhaps she was stymied and rendered speechless by the presence of Austin Baird.
    .
Communications Director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee? I had no idea there was such a thing. It has been vacant since May 2019 – 5 months – yet it is so important it pays $171K a year? I’m with Scott…I’ll do it for much less, but from the comfy confines of my home office. You would have to pay me double that to live in DC.
