From former Gov. Bill and Donna Walker, union representatives, to politicos whose resumes stretch far back in Alaska history, about 150 people gathered for the annual Congressman Don Young “Taste of Alaska” fundraiser for his next campaign for reelection.

Young has run for reelection since winning a special election to become Alaska’s lone congressman in 1973. He has served 25 two-year terms.

At a lovely private home on the lower hillside in South Anchorage, Young was introduced to the crowd by Julie Fate-Sullivan, wife of U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, who was to be a special guest but has been held in Washington D.C. by the infrastructure bill vote, which is pending.

Young held forth in his usual good-humored stump speech, telling the crowd that he’ll serve in the role as long as Alaskans say they need him there.

Spotted in the crowd were these notables (and many others): CJ Zane, Admiral Tom and Sylvia Barrett, Chuck Heath (brother of Sarah Palin), John Boyles, Rep. James and Nancy Kaufman, Jeremy Price, John Hendrix, Ashley Reed (father of Truman Reed), Sarah Erckmann Ward, Jim Udelhoven, Rachel Bylsma, Frank Bickford (Young’s 1984 campaign manager when he was challenged by Pegge Begich), Aves Thompson, Carl Mars, Joe Balash, John Crowther, Tara Sweeney, Mike Anderson, Daniel Shaw, Zoi Maroudas, Jason Hoke, Mary Ann Pease, Judy and Randy Eledge, Joseph Lurtsema, Frank McQueary, Curtis Thayer, Perry Green, Jordan Schilling, Deb Bronson, Ryan McKee, Daniel George, former Sen. Cathy Giessel, and former UA President Jim Johnsen.

Congressman Young was accompanied by his wife Anne Walton Young.

The annual Taste of Alaska event was postponed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and made a triumphant return at a new venue, and with many familiar faces, and several young up-and-comers.

  1. Hey Suzanne, how many of these attendees are common folks? How many have agendas that specifically benefit them? Is this the best we got?

  2. Not an impressive bunch. Most of them are has-beens, got thrown out of office by voters, been disgraced by scandal, or look like out-of-touch old dinosaurs. Don Young himself has been around too long and fallen to the will of lobbyists and rich developers. These fundraising events are boring exercises for all the back-slappers who think they have importance to peddle around to the electorate. A total yawner.

    • I wonder if Don lit up a joint and passed it around at the fund-raiser?
Good for achy bones and getting suckers to pony-up some of that Trust money. Bill Walker……..take note.

  3. We need to rethink support for Don Young if he is going to associate with people like Walker, perhaps he has turned in to swamp thing like Lisa Murkowski has. Both of them should run as what they are, Democrats.

  4. Don Young was unwilling to take questions at the end of his “I am the greatest pep talk”. Judy Eledge asked one good question and then Don stood up and hobbled away from the highchair he used to prop himself up. It seems he will soon need a wheelchair to get around. Alaska deserves better.

  5. Gee! That is lot of attendees in one oversized house!
I bet these leaders of Alaska forgot to open up and close in prayer to God giving Thanks for the meeting place, the host and hostess for their service and blessings to have such a beautiful home (though it has an indecent statue of a naked woman in plain sight) Hahaha I can think of a better statue, and the privilege to be lifted up in a platform to move Alaska using each ones talents and gifts. Amen!

I bet these leaders of Alaska forgot to open up and close in prayer to God giving Thanks for the meeting place, the host and hostess for their service and their blessings to have such a beautiful home for it (though it has an indecent statue of a naked woman in plain sight) (Hahaha I can think of a better statue for public viewing), and the Thanksgivings to God for the privilege to be lifted up on a platform to move Alaska using each ones talents and gifts (hopefully in the God-fearing right direction). Amen!

  7. It’s amusing when people finally become awoke and see the way the world truly is instead of them thinking they have an actual say in the goings on of a government. Just keep on doing what you’re doing, doing your day in day out stuff and the unelected government will keep taking care of you.

  8. I’d rather have a representative who’s more interested in securing election integrity in Alaska, reportedly one of the most corrupt in the previous election, than peddling drugs for Big Pharma, who’s sheltered from all liability. By lying to Alaskans about the supposed “safety and efficacy” of experimental injections, which have already killed and/or severely harmed tens of thousands and failed to prevent infection or transmission of disease, Mr. Young has demonstrated he’s already sold his soul to the devil.

  9. Every time you see the word “Bipartisan” just replace it with “swampy” in your head and you’ll be right 99 times out of 100.

  10. What’s up with that statue? Do normal people have a statue of a half naked woman, apparently holding a child, prominently displayed in their living room? That’s odd.
And of course the old fossil has bipartisan support because he’s a RINO with a serious leftward lean. Pelosi probably couldn’t make it to the event but sent her warmest wishes for a smooth re-election campaign. He’s a favorite pet of hers.
Everyone should take note of Young’s supporters and then never vote any of them into any office at any level.
If Young had the balls to stand up on the House floor to give a fiery speech condemning the 2020 election fraud and calling for a real forensic audit then he’d gain some of my respect and maybe even support.
That’s not going to happen though because go-along to get-along Don just isn’t that guy.
Neither is Carpetbagging Dan or Princess Lisa.
It would be enlightening to hear Don’s stance on mandatory masking though…given his apparent disregard for such at his special little party. Maybe masks are only for the common folk…

  11. It’s too bad after a decent career that Don didn’t retire with dignity a couple of terms ago. Now he could be on the poster as to why we should have term limits.
We need a vigorous individual who understands we are in the fight of a lifetime for our country. MTG has shown us what a new Representative is capable of.
Somebody please challenge this old man and put him out to green pastures.

  12. Suzanne, that Statue was a magnificent distraction! Good job on the teaser before the focus on the geezer!

  13. Swamp sycophants kiss the ring. They all are very impressed with how important they think they are.
