Anchorage Assemblyman Chris Constant is now offering conflicting explanations for his boorish behavior during a recent committee meeting, where he was caught on video appearing to mouth the words “F— you” to a member of the public who was waiting to testify.
Initially, Constant denied the accusation and claimed he was misunderstood. “Wow did that story take off — it was gaslighting of an extraordinary type,” he told the audience at the Anchorage Assembly on Tuesday, insisting that he was not addressing the woman in the audience but was instead telling someone at the meeting that there was a seat “for you.”
Constant also explained on Tuesday about his abrupt departure from the prior week’s meeting, saying he received a text from his sister about his mother’s health. “That wasn’t going very well,” Constant said of his mother’s condition, and saying that is why he had to leave.
However, Must Read Alaska has obtained an email sent by Constant to a member of the public that contradicts his public explanation.
In that email, Constant wrote:
“I was due at another meeting 20 minutes prior to the moment that was shared on video. I was on my phone telling the people who I was late for my next meeting and that I was on my way. But cool. Be mad. I said nothing on my way out the door. That’s a great story people are sharing. Funny thing is, I have been lied about so often, it has no power anymore.”
The email, which we are publishing below in full, makes no mention of a family emergency or his mother’s health. Instead, it presents an entirely different reason for his departure: a scheduling conflict.
The woman who was the target of the profane comment had been waiting to speak during the public testimony portion of the committee meeting.
Constant, who chairs the Anchorage Assembly, has a history of contentious interactions with members of the public who disagree with him, and has special venom for the group Save Anchorage, who the woman is associated with.
The discrepancy between Constant’s email account and his public statement raises questions about whether he has been truthful about the incident — considering his hostile body language when he mouthed the expletive — and his now questionable motivations for walking out of the meeting.

Instead of evading and denying, if he just said, “Yep. That woman annoys the F out of me, and I let my emotions take over for a second. For that, I apologize.” this would just disappear. But, like the child he is, denial is the first response, and blaming others is the next step.

As someone who would attend and occasionally go testify at Assembly Meetings in the 90’s and 00’s;
the lack of maturity of the current membership is shocking. Sure, Allen Tesche and Matt Claman were confirmed scumbags – and seats were held by unfortunate imbeciles like Elvi-Gray Jackson.
But until they rigged our municipal elections with mail-in/drop box fiascos since 2017, there were enough Republican adults and reasonable Democrats like Dick Traini to run things. Low bar to clear, but John Weddleton was probably the last member of the current left-majority that showed an occasional streak of independent thought. We are truly left with dregs in 2025.

He tried to run on bringing “balance” to the Assembly. Not sure how voting in lockstep with the leftists 90+% of the time is balancing the assembly, but… I actively worked against his re-election for that expression of BS alone.

Constant should have this tattooed in reverse on his forehead so every time he looks in the mirror it can be a reminder not to be lying POS. Of course, he’s pathological so it probably won’t help, but it might at least make him look like more of a ciuccio that he already is.

Constant is so used to lying. It is amazing that he tried to deny this when he knew there was a video out there. He knows what he said. Glad he could bully up on a woman. Nice move, Constant. If this had been a Republican, this would get front page coverage for months and the calls for his resignation would be deafening. The Anchorage Equal Rights Commission would be involved. Since it is Constant and he is a (D)em, this will have a 48-hour media shelf life at best. ADN, Channel 2 and the rest will ignore this and Constant will get away with it. Meanwhile, the woman he mouthed this to will have to live with the embarrassment that an elected official stooped so low to say that to her.

So let’s take Mr. Constant at his word, that he was late to another meeting by 20 minutes. Why did he not excuse himself earlier instead of sitting around for 40 minutes overtime?
Any adult would have politely let the speaker finish (she only had 1minute 45 sec left) and then make an announcement that they had to leave for another obligation. Simply getting up and walking away after the unprofessional encounter earlier, is really unacceptable.
His visceral hatred of “Save Anchorage” is on full display and completely unbecoming of a public official, who is charged to work for ALL residents, not just the ones he agrees and shares a vision with.
Chris’s behavior is totally in line with the rest of his gang members.
