The freshmen class of the United States Congress gathered on the steps of the U.S. Capitol on Friday for the official photo, and Alaska’s Congressman-elect Nick Begich was present, as seen in the photo above, where he is second from the left on the top row of the main group (red tie).

Republicans have maintained firm control of the House, with 220 GOP members and 213 Democrats. Republicans gained one seat, while Democrats lost a seat. Two California seats have not yet been called, along with one race in Iowa and one in Ohio.

The newly elected members of Congress have been in Washington, D.C. this week for orientation. Although Alaska’s race has not been officially called, all but a few remaining Democrats understand that Begich has won the seat. Rep. Mary Peltola has not conceded the race, however.

The ranked-choice algorithm won’t be run by the Division of Elections on the Alaska race until Nov. 20, but those who have analyzed the raw data have concluded that only massive cheating would change the course of history that will send Begich to Congress, like his grandfather before him. Nick Begich I served Alaska until perishing in a plane crash over Prince William Sound on Oct. 18, 1972.

Swearing in for members of Congress is Jan. 3 in Washington, D.C.

  1. We say, “Congratulations” to our new Congressman and “Good Riddance” to Mary Peltola.

Alaskans have strong confidence that Congressman Begich will work to support Alaska and Alaskans every day he is in office. He will not let us down, or call in sick, the way Mary Peltola did over and over again. In particular, I know that Congressman Begich will respond meaningfully to the individual and group needs of service-disabled veterans in huge contrast to Mary Peltola who sometimes gave “lip service” but did absolutely nothing even when confronted with the facts.

  2. Our elections here are very concerning, completely dysfunctional for many years, and no effort whatsoever of the AK DOE to clean it up.

The other sobering reality of the 220 GOP representatives, very few are actual, corruption free, Republicans in their behavior. Begich will hopefully prove not to be another Don Young.

Most voters don’t review the commitees, where bills are formed and the antics used to add or drop provisions.

We see during actual floor votes, that are close, where a handful of GOP reps vote with the Dems, just enough to pass Uniparty priorities or kill bills that are good for the nation, not the donors who have purchased the reps, like prostitutes.

The senate at 53 to 47 is another problem. There are at most 15-20 GOP senators who are honest. Neither of our senators are reliable, both are full on Uniparty.

Time will tell, and hopefully Trump will enact his agenda, the odds are poor though.

This is because They are all on the same side. Screw the tax and get rich in the process. Standard politician action.

  3. “..only massive cheating would change the course of history…” And we KNOW that has never happened before in our tightly controlled, professionally monitored, and, like, totally honest polling system in the USA! (Wink, Wink)

  4. The secret words are “Massive Cheating”. Sounds like cheese to a rat, or Lutefisk to a Norwegian.
The terms are “It ain’t over till its over”. Let me know tomorrow.
    Cheers

  5. I bet they don’t do anything outstanding. They don’t cut the debt. They don’t take care of that lopsided legal department they don’t fix the election laws they won’t fix the oversized government they won’t audit the feds orfix anything they just steal more money from the taxpayers.

  6. If Nick works as hard in Congress as he has done while campaigning, we are in for some good times. Congratulations, Nick!

    • I’ve learned to lower my expectations when it comes to elected officials; given how low Peltola dropped the bar at this point I’ll settle for a representative who at least shows up to work more than 60% of the time and actually REPRESENTS…

  7. If Mary Peltola is still convinced that she is “second coming of Don Young,” she definitely should mount a traditional “head to head” campaign against Nick next time.

It’s clear to the rest of us that the only reason she ended up in that position was because of RCV!

  8. I don’t put it past Petola and the Democrats to try and pull a fast one on the Alaska Republican Party and they fold like a cheap cigar.
