Chugiak High is requiring students to sign contracts that they will mask up

Chugiak High School is using a behavioral contract for students who are not complying with the Anchorage School District’s mask mandate.

The contract is being given to students who have been warned in the past that they are not wearing their masks properly. The contract requires the student to sign it and detail what steps he or she will take to ensure they don’t break the mask rules again.

Behavior contracts are common in high schools and are designed to make students accountable or their actions in the classroom and to document repeat incidents or behaviors for student examination.

  1. More scientific ignorance from our school system. Multiple studies say that masking does nothing to protect you or others. It’s simply confines the bacteria and exhaled waste from your body close enough to make you ill.

  2. Ironically they are calling it “face to face” learning although they want to cover up their faces?
Governor Dunleavy should veto funding to any school district mandating these fascist policies.
It worked for DeSantis, he just won his appeal & was able to stop this kind of madness in Florida.

  3. just wear your diaper and submit. Be grateful for the privilege to live a society where people care about your health and wellbeing. #socialmediaapprovedtakes

  4. What parent will keep their teen at school when they are repeat mask offenders needing a contract? Clearly these repeat offenders are Independent and should be in a Homeschool or Private School, which Eagleriver does have a private school. Its cute and small. But! I don’t know their current enrollment status. I know Anchorage private schools all have a waitlist. Seeing Eagleriver is further away maybe they have more open availability.

  5. Parents are obliged to educate their kids. If public education has become mere indoctrination might have to hire college tutors. They do a great job. Have kids read the founder’s writings.

    • Subjugation, subjugation, subjugation. This is an effort to make the next generation comfortable with compliance without question. Our public schools are rotten to the core.

  6. To the parents of any students at Chugiak High – Do not let them sign this BS “contract”

To the students at Chguiak High – Schedule a protest with all the unmasked students outside the school. The school can not put you all in detention, arrest you, or legally enforce you to do this. Do not listen to their lies and stand up for yourself against this rotten system.

  7. Minors have no legal capacity to enter into contracts. This is not valid. [Disclaimer – I am not a lawyer and this does not constitute legal advise.]

It might be valid for students who are at least age 18, but that is much smaller group.

    • Perhaps, but the message here is they need to comply with school policy. The goal is to keep them in school since they can’t learn much being suspended or expelled from classes. If they’re unable or unwilling to promise to follow school policy, then arrangements can be made to educate them at home.

  8. IMO, thus just a cute way for the ASD to argue that the student voluntarily agreed to something. There is nothing truly voluntary going on here. If the ASD is so tough, they should just suspend/exclude/penalize the student for any non-compliance. And then the student can appeal that action to the Board and the courts. The “contract” aspect of this is pure nonsense. Whatever lawyer rendered that advice is a disgrace to the Bar.

    • It’s a common practice used for behaviorally challenged students. It is adopted for any number of things a student violates habitually. It’s just a promise that has a student they will try harder to follow school policy. It’s also just a box to check when an if it comes to being in front of the school board, at the school tried everything possible to alleviate the situation.

  9. Parents: Pull your kids out of government schools. The temporary inconvenience is worth protecting their (and all of our) futures.

  10. If I were a student in that high school, I would quit and transfer to a private school and finish my education there.

Those liberal hacks running that school can stare at empty seats and ponder how stupid their policies concerning the virus are.

    What a shame…..

  11. This group of folks making comments never fails to disappoint. Always an opinion shared as fact. If you have a problem, they have a sure fire something that worked one time for that one person, anti-dote. I wonder if they wear seatbelts? Fought that battle to keep government out of the safety business? Stood in court to challenge the gross constitutional threat of a ticket? The issue with most conservative cost cutting is the costs are never cut. You will pay, every time. You only have the choice on what you pay for. I wonder what medical premiums are going to be in red states next year? Who is going to pay for insurance companies paying out for increased hospitalizations? Yep, we are going to pay. Wear a mask, get vaccinated, wear your seatbelt and maybe we can spend our money on things we actually want.

    • Considering that despite what the daily propaganda tells you, the vast majority of hospitalizations is in the age group that are on Medicare. Also if you’re looking for proof that masks work to slow the spread of Covid, look at the charts and you can clearly tell when the mask mandates went into effect.

      • The neck gator and scarves and thin cloth masks are pretty useless in doing anything except a fashion statement. You pretty much have to go with an n95 and if that’s not available one of the cheaper surgical masks to get any kind of resolve, but most people don’t do that and that’s why masking appears to not be effective.

    • No. Take personal responsibility. Maintain your health through personal choices that add to and do not detract from overall health. Recognize gross overreach, help your neighbors, and recognize your life is your responsibility. Healthcare costs are generally exacerbated by those who choose to destroy their lives. Currently, we have states pushing programs that play on these unhealthy behaviors to encourage you to get the shot. Donuts for vaccinations. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome are generally self-induced. Who is going to pay for it all? Who pays for the smokers, drinkers, eaters, lazy, unfit, drug-addled, and government-dependent looters?

Since the advent of the social safety net, WE have set this up. The answer is not MORE government mandate and punishment. I suggest talking with a doctor who knows your medical history, if they recommend it, get the vaccine. If you are in a high-risk demographic, YOU take precautions.

Cut the social safety nets, reduce the federal control of my tax money, force the public to provide for themselves. This current shortage of labor during extended and expansive unemployment benefits proves yet again, dependence on government, the private sector can not compete with the feds, when they milk the future earnings of producers to pay the lazy of today. Take responsibility for yourself. We should never expect the government to provide for us. Especially our health and welfare. Return the money to the taxpayers, so I can spend it where I see fit. Yeah, I know…roads and dreams were all born of federal tax dollars.

  12. Can we require certain CHS teachers to sign a behavioral contract that they will stop giving kids “packets” they’ve been using for the last 10 years so they can work on their next degree, write their novella, or organize their softball league during the time they are supposed to be educating our kids?

  13. Happened right in the middle of Eaglexit country…
    .
To Michael Tavoliero one asks how Eaglexit sponsors propose to prevent this and similar behavior by education industry employees; will Eaglexit include complete separation from Anchorage’s education industry and a process to facilitate firing employees who authorize, and do, things like this.
    .
This is a big one, Mike. Let’s hear from you.

  14. From “Minimum Sizes of Respiratory Particles Carrying SARS-CoV-2 and the Possibility of Aerosol Generation” by Byung Uk published in Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2020 Oct; 17(19): 6960.:
“The size of SARS-CoV-2 ranges from 0.07 μm to 0.09 μm.”
    .
From “Face masks: what the data say” by Lynne Peeples in Nature:
“The standard mask for use in health-care settings is the N95 respirator, which is designed to protect the wearer by filtering out 95% of airborne particles that measure 0.3 micrometres (µm) and larger.”
    .
    From The Mayo Clinic
    “Medical masks
Also called surgical masks, these are loosefitting disposable masks. They’re meant to protect the wearer from contact with droplets and sprays that may contain germs. A medical mask also filters out large particles in the air when the wearer breathes in.
To make medical masks more form-fitting, knot the ear loops where they attach to the mask. Then fold and tuck the unneeded material under the edges.
    N95 masks
An N95 mask is a type of respirator. It offers more protection than a medical mask does because it filters out both large and small particles when the wearer inhales.
Because N95 masks have been in short supply, the CDC has said they should be reserved for health care providers. Health care providers must be trained and pass a fit test before using an N95 mask. Like surgical masks, N95 masks are intended to be disposable. However, researchers are testing ways to disinfect and reuse them.
Some N95 masks, and even some cloth masks, have valves that make them easier to breathe through. Unfortunately, these masks don’t filter the air the wearer breathes out. For this reason, they’ve been banned in some places.
    Cloth masks
A cloth mask is intended to trap respiratory droplets that are released when the wearer talks, coughs or sneezes. It also acts as a barrier to protect the wearer from inhaling droplets released by others.
The most effective cloths masks are made of multiple layers of tightly woven fabric like cotton. A mask with layers will stop more droplets from getting through your mask or escaping from it.”
    .
Our government health mandates allow use of cloth, surgical and N95 masks and even homemade masks.
The science says that even the best masks, the N95, is incapable of stopping the Covid virus from getting through.
The non-N95 masks are even worse and the idiotic plastic face shields and plexiglass screens are pointless.
Masking is an exercise is compliance and obedience to governmental authority.
The predictable counter argument is that masks stop the expulsion or inhalation of large droplets and spray containing virus…true, so it gets on the mask and the virus can migrate right through even the N95 as you breath in or exhale out.
The mask might stop the direct transmission of large droplets but it also acts as a handy collection area for the droplets to concentrate.
Masks are feel good props for some but essentially useless in stopping the spread of viruses that are too small to be filtered by even the N95.

    • PJ, when are you going to learn that FACTS and DATA have no place in this country. If Steve0, Forkner, Homo and Sophia have said it once, you have heard it a million times, just do what you are told, being compliant will save the planet. [sar]

      • True enough but learning is fun and hopefully I can provide some good talking points that smart people can use…there’s no hope for the Covid compliant.
If the medium term testing results we’re beginning to hear are accurate many of the “vaccinated” won’t be around to bother us for long.
Undoubtedly they’ll be lining up for the first in a series of booster jabs and each shot is another spin of the bottle with death.
God alone knows the damage the spike protein is doing right now to their cardiovascular system and associated organs. Their doctors certainly don’t know because the testing has really only begun, if you catch my meaning.
They’ll continue to make their opinion based comments from their entrenched positions of ignorance but only time will reveal the truth and all of us in the “vaccine hesitant” category will have the luxury of seeing it through to the end…we’ll, at least 99.97% of us.

      • There’s nothing wrong with rules. It’s what holds our society together. I think even caveman had rules, who’s turn it was to go out and get firewood, or go kill a mammoth. I did it last week now it’s your turn.

  15. It’s amazing how many people so zealously advocate for the retardanting of children’s education and health in the name of “rules and the law”.

Can’t help but think these imbeciles, in another place and time would have
    -returned escaped slaves
-denied a thirsty black child access to a “whites only” water fountain
-reported their Jewish neighbors to the Nazis.

    After all, rules are rules.

    • All great analogies. And truth be told over 1/3 of incarcerated Jews were turned over by their neighbors because that was the law. Cowards always hide behind laws and mandates as well as justify the unjustifiable by claiming they are just doing what they are told. This country better hold on if the compliant mask wearing is any indicator of cowardice.

  16. While reasonable people can disagree about masks and mandates, I have no patience or tolerance for “rules are rules” wannabe Hitler youth style trolls.

    • Always with the insults but never any substantial contribution. Most rules aren’t rules for very long if they aren’t just. If a law which is really just a legal name for a rule is found to be unjust, then it is either cast out or changed. That’s the system that we live by. To follow the rules of society is one character of a good citizen. If not follow the rules of society is one description of a convict.

  17. The two most arrogant, pompous, and God complex professions in US social are educators and nurses.

The vast majority of both or liberal.
    Imagine.

It’s all about social control, people. It always has been
