Murkowski’s Statement on Senate Impeachment Process Vote
Washington, DC –U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) today released the following statement on the Senate vote regarding additional evidence for the court of impeachment:
“I worked for a fair, honest, and transparent process, modeled after the Clinton trial, to provide ample time for both sides to present their cases, ask thoughtful questions, and determine whether we need more.
“The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed. I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of their process, but ultimately decided that I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.
“Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that as an institution the Congress has failed.
“It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for or support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.
“We are sadly at a low point of division in this country.”
We give Lisa a hard time on here sometimes but this time she got it right. Maybe there’s hope for her. Our country has been divided ever since the Obama bend over tour where he sold-out America and gave all that money to Iran. The closet politicians that are on the socialist Democrat side of America are doing nothing but hurting America. Their disapproval of the Constitution will be their undoing.
Is there a choice after the Yea’s and Nay’s of the S.Res.483, #4 -requiring the Senate to depose such witnesses and decide which witnesses shall testify, if it agrees to allow the House or the President to subpoena witnesses;
Murkowski voted Yea on both the resolution and Amendment.

All of this is about the Separation of Powers: The House is trying to make the Senate look like “mud” in the face of the American people and the Constitution of the United States. Executive Power has been exercised and the Chief Justice will not overturn that power. The House did not bring forth any witnesses and that is where it would start. The Senate gave them the consent to bring witnesses and they did not do that utilizing the above Bill. So, it’s so much talk….but there are some that want fame and need fame to get by. Murkowski is one, Romney and Collins. I am surprised Murkowski took this path. But…let’s wait and see!! “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings!”

I think Lisa did right, this time, only because her decision is unlikely to affect the outcome, while it pacifies (imagine us with our binkys) conservatives and gives false hope she might really not be a dem…
Well, I guess that signals she wants to run for another term. She may Be doing damage control. Many Alaska conservatives were very angry over her Kavanaugh vote. Perhaps she thinks this might smooth their ruffled feathers. The problem is that her vote in this case was accompanied by unnecessary insulting comments about the Senate. When will she learn that the hottest place in H**l is reserved for those who do not have a solid moral compass and try to ride the fence rather than take a solid position. This is called a inconsistent value system.
And I wonder about her value system..

Greg: look up Dante. The words are a little different when they read about those who want to remain nuetral in times of a moral crisis. But most people recognize that is the same as riding in the fence. Check it out. And then tell us if you understand and whether you might agree.

Before Senator Murkowski’s comments are taken at face value, it must be determined if her vote would be critical. She realizes that her left leaning votes on critical issues have cost her support in this state and needs to attempt to gain conservative support. Don’t forget that this is the seasoned Senator who avoided voting on Kavanaugh’s confirmation after joining the left and voting no on cloture, basically claiming he wasn’t perfect enough. We need a well thought of conservative who will challenge her…and win.

You don’t say. Of course she’s still a rino. She will be voted out in due time. The next time her name gets on a ballot is quite a ways off and you know what a short memory a lot of people have.

Failed in what way Lisa? Bringing trumped up charges resulting from a banana republic-style House kangaroo court, or failed in that it won’t be convicting Trump of something, anything? I don’t find her statement strong, though what counts is her vote, and I’m glad she voted as she did. 51-49, no witnesses.
I am impressed with this statement from Senator Murkowski about not calling for more witnesses. It is well thought out and shows intelligent reasoning. Thank you Senator Murkowski. I know that Senator Murkowski is a smart woman having worked with her within the Republican Party of Alaska many years ago. However, I also know that she is a seasoned politician and maybe that explains the difference in this statement and the statement that she released supporting her cowardly “present” vote in the confirmation process for Judge Kavanaugh to sit on the SCOTUS.
The above comments make more sense than the whole Schiff/Nadler Show. I,’m concerned about Maine Senator Susan Collins Election this Fall. She gave a 45 Minute Fact filled Speech at the
Justice Kavanaugh Nomination. Maine has adopted Rank Voting. In 2018 the last
Republican U.S. Representative Bruce Poliquin in NE got 49.7% on election day but lost 51-49% after the
final recalculation.. He was the last Republican representatives out of 21 representatives in New England. That is only the tip of the iceberg if Alaska adopts ranked Voting. If you expect ranked voting will improve Alaskan elections you’re crazier than the Democrats are.

Poliquin led in first choices with 46.3% to Golden with 45.6%. Just as would have likely happened with a runoff election, Golden defeated Poliquin head-to-head because he got more than twice the number of votes as the next choice of the backers of the two independent candidates.
I don’t think Alaska Republicans need to worry about their ability to win a majority of the vote. And Maine Republicans may well take back CD-2 in 2020 with a new candidate who is better at winning majority support.
I always thought that whomever it was that received the most votes won an election, sounds like that isn’t the case with progressive math. We don’t need stacked choice voting in Alaska, or in this Country.
Though, I disagree with Sen. Lisa Murkowski on a number of things; she made a right decision today and addressed the issue well. I am confident she will get a lot of flack from the left, as she is already, and though I still will not support or vote for her based on her voting history and liberal views. She needs to be shown appreciation for her stand, because she did in fact do what was right and best for our state, judicial system, and nation with this vote today.
She “saw the light” only after Sen Lamar Alexander proclaimed that he was a “No.” When Lisa came to realize she was no longer in the limelight, she backed off her soapbox!
