Breaking: Congressman Byron Donalds calls for Dahlstrom to drop, while Alaskans launch online petition

Much like the Mendenhall Glacier building up pressure, the chorus of people calling for Nancy Dahlstrom to drop from the congressional race is growing.

Congressman Byron Donalds of Florida, one of the closest people to President Donald Trump, posted a message today aimed directly at Nancy Dahlstrom, who came in third in the recent Alaska primary race for Congress:

“Congrats to my friend @NickforAlaska on his decisive victory,” Donalds wrote of the top-placing Republican in the open primary. “Alaska is a red state and Nick will win with a united GOP behind him.:

“Nancy Dahlstrom ran a strong race, but she should drop out so we can beat radical Democrat Mary Peltola.”

Donalds is one of several who support Donald Trump and also support Nick Begich, making his second try for Congress. Vivek Ramaswamy, the House Freedom Caucus, and 40% of Alaska’s Republican district committees endorse Begich, as do six of the seven Republican women’s clubs and all of the Young Republican clubs in Alaska.

Dahlstrom has no significant endorsements in Alaska except Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s.

Also on Thursday afternoon, a petition was started to demand that Dahlstrom depart the race. Started by an entity calling itself Citizens Demanding Accountability, the petition can be found here.

The petition reads:

We, the undersigned citizens of Alaska, are deeply concerned about the recent actions of Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom, which we believe undermine the responsibilities and commitments she made when taking her oath of office on December 5, 2022. This oath requires her to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska” and to “faithfully discharge her duties as Lieutenant Governor to the best of her ability.”

Despite losing the Primary Election in her bid for a seat in Congress, Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom continues to pursue this course, even as the Republican Party faces potential significant losses. We believe these actions are in direct conflict with the principles and duties outlined in her oath.

As Alaskans, we need solid, focused leadership, especially with the possibility of losing our Governor to Washington, D.C., in November. The state cannot afford to have its second-in-command distracted by campaign activities at such a critical time. Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom’s primary responsibility is to act in the Governor’s absence and to oversee the electoral process in our state. Given the challenges and concerns surrounding our election system, it is imperative that her focus remains on ensuring that Alaska’s elections are conducted legally and efficiently.

We call upon Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom to withdraw from her Congressional campaign and prioritize the leadership and governance of Alaska during this pivotal time. As the second-in-command of our state, we urge her to honor her commitment to “support and defend” and to put the needs of Alaskans above personal ambitions.

We, the undersigned, believe that transparency, accountability, and dedication to duty are fundamental to effective governance, and we ask Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom to reaffirm her commitment to these values by stepping back from her campaign and focusing on her current responsibilities to the people of Alaska.

  1. Hang in there Nancy. Don’t cut and run. Encourage the Republican voters simply to rank the red! Is that too tough for the Begich camp to grasp.

    • It didn’t work. It splits the vote that’s just how Mary got in the position she’s in!

Wake up!!! Mary is already celebrating victory. Wake up! If Nancy cares anything about Alaska, she will step aside…

Further, if she doesn’t, when she kills Alaska dreams through this, she is done in politics. Our country’s been through hell & Alaskans are fed completely up with it all.

    • Wrong! Dahlstrom and Dunleavy are not listening to us. It was reportedly house speaker Mike Johnson who recommended her to Trump for endorsement . Yes, the RINO who scrapped last year’s Republican budget, then gave Democrat leaders all they asked for and passed it with Democrat votes. Johnson knows Nick Begich isn’t going to sell his soul and our country, but Nancy will.
This RCV wormhole must be *hitcanned and all of the schemers behind it must be exposed.

    • Rank the red? Are you brainwashed??? Why don’t the democrats say “rank the blue”??? Because they have this all figured out. They know having more than one blue candidate on the general election ballot dilutes the energy of the party by splitting the time, talent, and treasure of the supporters. This rank the red stuff is designed for Republican suckers. You may as well say, “mark it for Mary.” That’s what ranked choice voting gets you.

    • Hang in there President Biden! Stay on the ballot and don’t let the other Blues say otherwise! Is that what you are saying?

      • Robert,
You should drop out of the Democrat Party and become a Republican. More thinking involved, though. If you’re up to it.

  2. Mary will beat Dahlstrom and the State will suffer…. Do what is right for Alaskans and throw support to Begich so Alaskans will have true representation in the House!

  3. Thank you for providing the link to the petition, Suzanne. I signed it and believe that most others who read this article and feel similarly will do so, too.

  4. The Lite Guv pursing her narcissistic endeavour only will ensure that anti-Christian leftist Peltola gets another term. If Dahlstrom has any integrity, she will bow out now.

  5. 2 years ago when Sarah jumped in the race, there was 2 R’s and the R’s lost. Ranking the red is a good idea. But does anyone expect different results this time around? Same movie and expect a different outcome is insanity.

The best winning strategy is for only 1 R on the ballot. Different movie and the R wins.

The R party needs to bring in the big guns and play king maker If egos rue the day, plan on Mary for 2 more years.

  6. There is no way that 100% of the voters will only rank the red. Too many dug in their ways. Too many don’t understand RCV. We must remove this conundrum for a chance to regain our Congressional seat that was stolen from us because of this awful system!

  7. Good for congressman Donalds. The overwhelming majority of Alaska Republicans want Dahlstrom gone….. and hopefully for good. I’m not ranking the red, either. If Dahlstrom doesn’t get out, this conservative Republican will rank Peltola as No. 2.
Reason: At least you know who your political enemies are. Dahlstrom is a Trojan horse and a traitor to her party. And you know what happens to traitors, right Nancy?

  8. Peltola supporters are starting to post comments here, posing as Nancy Dahlstrom supporters.
Of course they want Dahlstrom to stay in the race. It bolsters Peltola. Nancy thinks she is getting the comments from her people. Wrong!
Nancy is low IQ. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Dahlstrom is going down hard.

  9. Trump is the leader of the party. Nothing he has ever touched had a bad ending. Follow your next President!

  10. on June 12, 2024 She said after numbers came in she would talk to Nick and others if she was not in top position. She then released a press release as soon as it was clear she did not place and stated she would stay in.

I Played that clip today on the Thomas Loving show on KVNT. If she is willing to lie about the little things what will she tell the truth on. She needs to drop for the good of the party, country and state.

  11. Hearing after the primary disaster Nancy Dahlstrom is polling in the single digits. Everyone on the inside knows its over.

  12. This is good news–now if he can get Trump’s ear and convince him. Trump is one of the most bull-headed and stubborn people ever. This is a good quality when facing a bad leader of another country but a disadvantage in this type of situation. Like I’ve said before, Trump has so much on his plate right now, there is no way he can know much about Nancy D. I know he likes our Governor and I give Dunleavy credit for loyalty, but now Dunleavy needs to tactfully let go.

  13. What we’re witnessing is the 3Rs–the rank, radical repubs–seething with animosity! Choice is an American attribute. Apparently the 3Rs need a Putin to kick ’em around!

  14. Republican voters can’t get out of their own way. Rank your preferred candidate first and your less preferred candidate second. Save the acrimony for the R you don’t like and give it to the D you ‘really don’t like.’

Failing this, it is YOU, the stubborn, obstinate, acrimonious, self-righteous, conservative (?) voter who will lay this at the feet Alaska’s member of the Squad.

I can only pray you vote Yes on 2

      • Furthest thing from a D. You don’t know me and you don’t know anything about me. A careful reading might render ‘pragmatic.’ If you don’t play the game according to the rules you’re stuck with, you’re going to lose.

Continue to play ‘stupid’ and you’ll get what you deserve. Unfortunately, you’ll saddle the whole state with your Squad member.

I have no idea what Manley is like these days. Back in the early years of statehood – my era – it was populated by some fairly conservative folks.

  15. If Dunleavy keeps pushing Dahlstrom, it means he supports Ranked-Choice Voting. If that is the case, he is a traitor. Pure and simple.

  16. When Trump cited the snake poem, I feel like it was directed at corrupt career politicians including RINOs, military and medical industrial complex and deep state. It appears Dalstrom isn’t going to drop out, so the Begich campaign and all Alaskan Republicans need to do a better job of informing voters to vote for Begich. There are still a lot of Republican voters in Alaska that don’t understand Dalstrom’s motives. These uninformed voters voted for Dalstrom in the primary because she somehow got Trump’s endorsement. Time to have heart to heart talks with Republicans about Rank Choice Cheating and return to one vote and no ranking. Time to have fireside chats with our friends, neighbors, and everywhere we can. Vote like our future, our children’s future and our grandchildren’s future depends on it. One vote for Begich.

  17. Does anyone remember how quickly Al Gross disappeared like a fart in a hurricane when Peltola was ushered in?
He got marching orders from the Grand Wizard!
Democrats will eat their own just to win.
