Biden’s parting shot: Taking sides in lawsuit to force oil companies to pay for global warming

26

The Biden Administration has 38 days left, but is not done with its war on oil companies.

This week, the Department of Justice joined in a case brought by the city of Honolulu against oil companies ConocoPhillips, Marathon Petroleum, Aloha Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, Sunoco, and others, in an effort to make some oil companies pay billions of dollars in damages for the global warming caused by their legally sanctioned and government regulated and permitted businesses.

In a separate case, the Justice Department filed a brief opposing Alabama and 18 other Republican-led states, including Alaska, that are trying to block the litigation against oil companies by Democrat-led states such as California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

The Biden Justice Department has asked the Supreme Court to rule in favor of Honolulu and against Alabama in the two cases.

“The briefs are just the latest instance of the Biden-Harris administration aligning itself with climate activists’ punitive approach towards oil and gas companies. They also represent a blow to the fossil fuel industry as it continues to battle more than a dozen cities and states nationwide that—in addition to blaming oil companies for global warming—accuse the industry of covering up the impact of their products on the environment for decades,” wrote Thomas Catenacci in the Washington Free Beacon.

“Honolulu initiated its lawsuit in March 2020, listing oil majors BP, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Shell, and Sunoco, among others, as defendants. Last year, defendants were handed two significant losses—first, the Supreme Court said the case could remain in the jurisdiction of state courts, and second, the Hawaii supreme court rejected a motion to dismiss the case altogether,” he wrote. 1. The oil company’s just need to stop refining for 2 weeks.
Then double prices to the states that are sueing them want gas pay for it and the lawsuit fine.

    • I agree mark let’s just shut it down. 2 weeks. How about 3 months starting Jan 1st. Petroleum has made our lives so pleasant it’s hard to imagine how unpleasant it was 125 years ago. Apparently Greg doesn’t have a car and never goes anywhere on a jet.

  2. Honolulu? The rat infested democrat rundown city that dumps raw untreated human sewage into the ocean is suing the producers that fuel the only source of income they have ever had… tourism and Dole pineapple?

Just the cruise ships and jet traffic alone is enough to choke any form of intelligent brain function on the islands.

Leave it to Democrats to come up with a scam and the Biden-Harris duo jump on it like a Ukrainian “natural gas” supplier with Hunter in charge.

  3. So, this lawsuit is based on… what?
An unproven belief that fossil fuels directly lead to climate change?
That somehow, decades in the future, the actions of the oil companies will be identified as the cause of the environmental damage?
    .
Right. A lawsuit based on actions that have not been realized, because of science that is speculative.
    .
Then again, the WEF/COP folks would like to see nothing more than the USA cripple itself and move to second or their world status. And, the O’biden regime has done nothing other than assist them with that agenda.

  4. I pray that every globalist and their puppets have to pay for this “global warming.” They are wholly responsible for every aspect of it.

    • Not in their plans.
The real intent of “climate change” is to get the population as a whole subservient and reliant on the global government for their very existence. Why do you think the US has to give up more and more, while China gets to build coal power plants, and pollute? Because China is already a communist country.
      .
The elites (read that as parasites) want to live in luxury, while you pay for it. Give up your energy, your food, your space for the planet. (Meanwhile, they keep buying seafront mansions and private jets). Soon enough, it will be walled estates for the parasites, with tin shacks for everyone else. And that will be worldwide, not just some countries.
