Wayback machine: Democrats’ impeachment quotes that didn’t age well

House Democrats didn’t always express their sheer determination to impeach President Donald J. Trump. Some quotes from the past show that once upon a time, some leading Democrats shared a different point of view, when it came to President Bill Clinton:

  • Rep. Jerry Nadler blasted impeachment complaining “they have been persecuting this President since the day he took office because they cannot abide the thought that we could have a President fighting for us.”
  • Nancy Pelosi admitted that Democrats have been bent on impeachment for over 2.5 years.
  • Then Rep. Chuck Schumer complained that impeachment was not bipartisan: “We are routinely using criminal accusations and scandal to win the political battles and ideological differences we cannot settle at the ballot box.”
  •  Rep. Maxine Waters said impeachment was a “coup d’état” because “they are trying to do with this impeachment what they were unable to do at the ballot box” and called on Congress to “stop the madness” and “to get on with the work of the American people.” That was 21 years ago, when President Clinton was impeached.
  •  Rep. Zoe Lofgren said that moving forward on impeachment “on a partisan basis … will do damage to our country.” (Only Democrats support impeaching President Trump.)
  •  Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee blasted impeachment based on “very insignificant” facts and no violations of the Constitution.
  • Rep. Barbara Lee said impeachment was an “attempt to undo a government that is duly elected by the people.”

OTHER FUN FACTS

Rules Committee Vice Chair Rep. Alcee Hastings was impeached in 1988 for “conspiracy, bribery, perjury, falsifying documents, thwarting a criminal investigation, and undermining the public confidence ‘in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.’”

Even Democrat voters are rejecting impeachment. A new CNN poll found that since November support for impeachment amongst Democrats has dropped by 13 points.

  1. Isn’t that special. All these turds trying to undo what we the people set in motion on election day. When are they going to figure it out that they work for us and we are the ones that say who comes and who goes in this great nation? The same can be said for our House majority here in Alaska. I hope they don’t suddenly get amnesia don’t forget who the bosses are.

  2. These attacks against a duly elected president are not only an attack on conservatives, but family values, and a payback against the impeachment of W.J. Clinton. To say nothing of the loss of H.R.C. and her coordination and continuation of the Obama agenda.

The thing that strikes me as most incredible about the continued attacks against Trump and his administration? The stock market is on fire, wages are up, unemployment is at record levels, we have never had a time when we have so many troops coming home since Clinton gutted the military and we have judges across the board (even the 9th Circus!) being appointed who aren’t re-writing the Constitution!

  3. If they’re mad about Hillary losing the election, all they need to do is remember back in time.

Now I know that’s hard for them to do because they have the attention span of five minutes and the memory of 30 seconds. I will help them remember why Hillary couldn’t be elected.

Go back and look at the footage of Hillary campaigning. Remember when she passed out and was literally shoved into that van and lost her shoe and they had to take her up to Chelsea’s apartment for a quick vampire transfusion? The woman was like that every night. That’s why they had to fly her home so they can infuse her with whatever they were shoving into her to keep her going. That’s why her campaign cost so much, because was all the back and forth travel. Let alone she just wasn’t physically up to the challenge of a campaign without being propped up.

On the other hand we have Trump out playing golf magically appearing all over the country doing three or four stands a night. And people love that about him — he’s like the Energizer Bunny.

But finally when you add in Hillary’s foul mouth calling half of the country deplorable, and shacking up with the likes of sexual monsters like her husband and her Hollywood people led to her demise. So suck it up buttercup.
